I'm surprised there wasn't a thread about this but...for those of us who have watched it, what were your general thoughts on it? Myself, I really liked the way the CGI made Godzilla almost look like a person in a suit but it also looked realistic at the same time. The story was great, it made you sympathize with the human characters, and the fact it took place post WWII and what Godzilla symbolizes in this, I have to say kudos to the cast and crew of the film, as well as the director for this. [I gotta get a physical copy]. Also congrats to them on getting an Oscar.

I found it emotional at times, and it definitely tried to emphasize the effects of war and those who suffered through it.
One of my friends who I saw it with was concerned about the themes and whether it could be a defense of Japan's military past (similar controversy surrounds Godzilla VS. King Ghidorah), but I think it was more intended to be a self-reflection and definitely a way to critique the Japanese Government during the war years. It's something I need to see again so that I can pick apart the details even more. |

I have seen this incredible film at least 12 times now.
It’s seriously one of the best movies I’ve ever seen, and I think fandom in general is completely blown away by just how monumental this movie is. Finally The King has his Oscar and an instant classic |
