At a time when Gutbuster Taro's ab is a thing I expect them to sell us a replica of that hot dog as a set of paper weights complete with Picotaro's denture marks.

I'm very late on this one, but I just wanted to chime in and say that I liked it. Seeing Shiguru finding his own way of using Kiramentaly was refreshing as it shows the unique trait of the Red inspiring the rest of his teammates into finding their own way of using their own strengths, and I hope this gets further developed along the road for all of the Kiramagers.
Hell, even Garza is being build up as a character who finds out how his own powers work, and he successfully broke Smog Jouki out of the combination this time around. This week’s subplot was fine, innocent fun, but what really got me was the end. I'm not going into too much detail here, I’m just gonna say that I'm a huge fan of seeing a woman asking another one out being treated as something perfectly normal. Because it should be. |

Not as late as I am! Turns out writing huge novels about Kuuga episodes really cuts in on time to talk about Kiramager!
But that's all cleared up now, which means, holy crap do I get to talk about this one. This is definitely my new favorite episode of the show. It embodies everything that makes Kiramager so amazing, which is basically just how good I always feel after watching it. This episode, it's like, wall-to-wall hilarious gags, wrapped around a solid and fulfilling little plot, based in fun characters, and with cool action to boot. It's just everything I could want out of Sentai, polished to perfection. Arakawa totally crushed the script here. Shiguru just regained a ton of ground on the whole "I actively want him to be my favorite" thing, because the way this episode expands on the idea of him as a wannabe cool guy is wonderful. He's just like, a huge dork who needs to actively avoid any situation that makes him look bad to even get close to maintaining that image, but he constantly betrays himself anyway, and shows what a big kid he is. I loved in particular how the show is actively critical of his totally-not-a-rejection rejection, while still being hilarious about it, with all the Machines just having no sympathy for no him. The kind of dialogue Shiguru has in that flashback is the sort of thing that would be played straight a lot of the time, which I think really goes to show how thoughtful a writer Arakawa can be. And the fact that the gag at the end had the guts to not just be a quick subversion where it immediately turns out Iyo doesn't mean that kind of 付き合う, I don't even have the words to praise that enough. This show is just the absolute bomb, and I can't wait for the day when I have more of it back in my life.

I agree, at first glance he seemed he was gonna be a mix bag of Joe Gibken and Bamba aka the cool brooding big brother swordsman but nope, and I really love that about him.
