I completely understand what one defines as their holy grail is completely subjective. Considering it hadn't really been discussed what a grail is, I simply thought I'd share what that is to me and what that quest means to other dedicated collectors. To me, it's not about simply being able to afford things like Hot Toys or comic statues, it's about the hunt (as "questing for the holy grail" implies). If you find yourself on the hunt for a new "holy grail" every other week, I think you could raise the standard just a wee bit for what a grail is to you. Pushing aside anything I've said that may lead to misunderstanding or further accusations of snobbery, I'd simply love to hear about something they feel (or once thought) they could only dream of obtaining. Is it a special edition that was given away via lottery? Is it a rare prototype that never went into mass production? Is it a limited edition that was sold through a boutique shop in Japan on a rainy day? Is it a relative toy signed by your favorite tokusatsu actor/actress? |

The term isn't exactly subjective. It's supposed to refer to something that's extremely hard to get, not something that you just want at the moment. You can have a list of "Grails" but the biggest factor is that unavailability is the key. It's not really snobbery, it's just misuse of the term. Scarcity and price are both things that have to be put in mind when it comes to calling something a "Holy grail." |

Hmm, I think having the complete set of Ryuki figuarts would probably be it for me. I have Ryuki Survive and Zolda (my all time favorite rider and character), but having all of the riders and, possibly, all of their advent beasts on display together would just be...I was really into Kamen Rider even back when I just first started watching Wizard and Fourze those years ago, and checking out stuff like Vangelus and TJ's reviews of different Figuarts and roleplay toys before I actually watched any of the shows, but Ryuki has always stood out to me as the season that really made Kamen Rider my all time favorite series.

My Magi Phone since it was the last gift i got from my mother before she died, so even it's not that hard to find, it's my "Holy Grail".

In a way, knowing that it's out there and I really want it is almost better than owning it. Because once I own it, part of my journey of collecting is over. And I like to enjoy the ride... Also, I think I'm holding out faint hope that Bandai will eventually start pushing out the rest of the Godaikins in the Soul of Chogokin line. Someday...maybe... |
For me, a grail is an odd thing. I always end up buying the more expensive, hard-to-find releases first before going onto the more readily available stuff, so in that regard I don't really have any grails. But then there's more readily available releases that I've been craving since before I even started collecting Figuarts that I just haven't had a suitable grace period to get. I'll think I'm free, I'll finally go and place an order for that SHF Magnugiga or TheBee that I've wanted for years, then all of a sudden a new release that will probably sell for the price of a small country on the aftermarket comes out that I really want and I'll hold off on getting those two.
It's hard keeping up sometimes lol |
