Having said that, I'd be more down for a James Gunn Ultra adaptation than one for Rider. I already love Kamen Rider, but I'd be interested to see Ultraman through Gunn's lens. |
I would be cool if Gunn did Ultraman or Kamen Rider if he did in a style of his older movies and not in a style of Guardians of the Galaxy.

Perhaps ironically, over the 10 years I’ve been part of this fandom I’ve observed that, as Toku becomes more popular in the US, the nasty, disrespectful, and ignorant voices grow in number. The newer fans tend to be the most vocally anti-SJW, which is... weird. They seem to be very worried about SJWs ruining Toku, not realizing that historically, it’s fostered a pretty progressive and accepting fandom. |
You have people worried about SJWs hurting Kamen Rider when I already seen people in the Toku fandom that think that Toei is pandering to the SJWs by having women play a bigger role in the shows. All of this stuff is fucking stupid and should not exist in the first place.

...maybe that's why I like KR, because it doesn't feel the need to use gender or identity as an excuse for why you should like/dislike a character. |
I don't think the biggest problem we should be worrying about is SJWs or progressive politics. Let's face it, those will always exist throughout history for better or or worse.
Personally, the problem is the chance that a toxic community could arise. Fact is that there will be people who will in some way retaliate against people who do not hold the same opinion as them. Most, if not all, toxic fandoms are toxic because of the way fans treat people with opinions that they don't agree with; which is, frankly, poorly. I see name-calling, harassment, humiliation and calling people 'not true fans'. Seriously, this is not how you get people in a fandom. If an organised religion does all this, you could bet that people would leave in droves; how much more so in a secular entertainment industry which is meant to be enjoyed by people of different beliefs, genders, races, etc.?!? I think the biggest solution to this whole 'SJW' thing or when dealing with any potential 'Karens' that may enter the toku community is just don't reply back with hatred or insults or something to try and justify yourself. Leave them alone and they'll have no one to bother. Respect each other's opinions while recognising the fact that there will be people who will disagree. Ask yourself, what would Fourze do? (WWFD) Right now is a good opportunity to introduce toku to the west and its best not to flub this up. The last thing we want is for others to think of us as rude angry nerds with mental problems. Proverbs 15:1 NKJV - A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. (Yeah I know not everyone in Tokunation is a Christian, but I still think it's good to put this here.) |
WWFD is an extremely good epithet

"What would Fourze do?" is always a good motto. I'd hate to see toku fandoms get infected with the same gatekeeping attitudes I see in some gaming communities, where anyone who doesn't pass some arbitrary "must be this obsessive to enter" test gets pushed out and called a fake. That's how you make a fandom wither and die, and I know we all want to avoid that.
By the way, Gashatfreak, have you heard about the "paradox of tolerance"? It's fascinating stuff. Your earlier comment about communities claiming to be tolerant and then not living up to that got me thinking about it, and I actually see it mirrored a lot in how Kamen Rider handles the idea of justice. |
