The suits look a bit plain to me. However, I felt the same regarding the Kyoryuger and many other sentai suits when they were revealed at first. Just need to get used to them which will be remedied by watching the first couple of episodes.
Anyways, hope it's good. Not too big on trains, but they have some shoes to fill succeeding Kyoryuger. |
Only think I'm not completely sold on is the combined mecha (and that's just the colours). LOVE everything else about it so far.
|
Well, that's a bit of a let down. Maybe they'll grow on me, it is still trains sooo...
In other news what is going on with that wrist changer gimmick? Do I sense a miniature train toy line? |
Ok, this looks AWESOME! loving Tokkuyoh? Is it? Can't wait to see this series in action! :D
|
Yeah, the suits and Megazord (as is) look pretty...bland to me. Maybe they'll grow on me, maybe this one will just be a stinker to me.
|
I'm reminded of the goons from Car Ranger. I gotta get used to it I guess.
|
They don't look like crime fighters. They look like characters you'd see on a low budget Christian children's television show.
|
I dont like anything about this series so far. I was excited for the train theme but this...
|
Wow all of that is horrible. The Rangers look more like the villains footsoldiers of the season, and that has to be the blandest Robo in the history of the franchise.
|
*looks at OP and then the pics* Um. No.
That mecha looks ridiculous. I love the train modes, however. Plus the fact that they form a train that's over a meter long? That's awesome. The transformation is even a bit too simplistic for my liking. Maybe it'll grow on me, maybe, but I'll certainly wait for the US release on this one. |
The henshin brace is pretty much what I figured, but the mech is kind of awkward, even for Sentai. I'm sure it's a necessity for the add-on mechs, but I can're remember a more awkward looking core robot.
I also worry about the legs, I can just see the hing getting weak with age and giving him permanent "splitz" pose. |
Tokkyuuoh looks so much like a Bootleg robot rather than something from Super Sentai. Very disappointed. I was so looking forward to the trains idea.
|
Even the suits do. It seemed from Goseiger onwards they were really trying to push the complexity of the suits but look at those bland suits of nothing. I'm waiting to see the designs packed in a poorly moulded four inch 'SUPER FORCE' figure set.
|
Oof. I am not feeling the love for that mecha. He's got no waist and the legs go straight up to the shoulders.
He doesn't appear to have hands/fists either, just a 90 degree twist on the pink and yellow train fronts with some peg holes added. Even the add-ons look lame. Honestly, it looks like a bunch of multicolored toiler paper tubes slapped together. That sword however, is pure awesome. |
Well that's the laziest suit design I've ever seen. The mecha looks like a trainwreck (pun intended) and the weapons are so Go-Onger, I'm wondering if they've remoulded the props.
Frankly, it looks like a Chinese Toku and that's just sad. PASS. |
Well, I'm glad I wasn't excited from the start.
These designs aren't very good. I told myself I would give the train theme a try if the suits/mechs looked good, but I'm not feeling it. So is yellow male or female? Looks male in the group shot, but the toy looks like it has a skirt. |
I feel like the biggest hypocrite, after saying dont judge a series till we know something solid, i can honestly say this series looks awful to me. hope im wrong. but im glad they have a mecha like that, i have zero desire to pick that up. ever

* First impressions
- So far I like the idea of the TokkyuResshas being a component of the TokkyuChanger - The somewhat minimalistic approach to the suits compared to previous teams these days I sort of like it, but I was a tad peeved at how the rails feel like they have been cheaply slapped on to the visors at first glance. Here's to hoping Toei includes Bloopers in future DVD and Blu-Ray releases where the suit actors go "I can't see bro!". - Tokkyuoh = Volcan 300 (Those who have viewed or read Zatch Bell in some form will know what I mean). Otherwise, I like the designs of the TokkyuResshas as trains - Renketsu Bazooka is *cough (Super Highway Buster) *cough (2.0) - I am curious how the transfer gimmick (the numbers on their helmet and chest changing) will work. So far the scans are too small for me to make out what the words written are saying. |
The suits are very basic, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I like them right now.
Weapons are pretty decent looking. But the first Megazord... ugh. Think I'll be passing this year unless teh add-ons are much more impressive. |

On a side note, I am enjoying Superhero Time. Keep it up! |
Looking closer, there are 10 trains in that first Megazord scan. Probably teh first look at Auxiliary Zords for the year?
If they have interchangeable limbs or torsos that could help the current bland issues. |
Wow. Is this real? That robot as every says just looks bland. The transformation from train to robot is even bland.
The Sentai suits themselves look more like they'd be at home in the 70s or early 80s Sentai shows. The train tracks look would go better on their torsos than the helmets, which should just have the train engine looks to them they have with maybe a bit more detail. I know trains can be made into awesome combined robots. Look at the train trio of Autobots from Transformers: Robots in Disguise. I had those guys and they were really good. A heck of a lot better than five trains just 'linking up' as the photos show they do to turn into robot form for this new show. |
I kind of like the suits, but i think that they could use some more detail.
|
I'm pretty sure Yellow is female. The toy definitely seems to have a skirt. Could just be the pose in the first pic.
Which is good because that's something that's been lacking for a few years... two girls on the team that is. |

Okay, so I didn't think this would happen but I think I can cope with the blandness. It's grown on me... bleh.
|
1.2 meter of train... but will it turn? I don't know, it may be an easy pass judging by my initial reaction
|
Yeah I'm probably out on the toyline for this series. That mecha looks really simple (and pretty awful in my opinion). I'll give the series a shot but man...I was really hoping for a better looking mecha. If the secondary mecha are good and the final combo (if there is one) is good I may bite but this is definitely something I'll be holding out on. Which is fine! More money for Gaim! :D
|
Well, I was expecting something a little more detailed and dynamic. I'll probably check out the first couple of episodes to see how things settle, but the robot and the outfits are a little underwhelming. I have to agree with the sentiment that it looks like a bootleg sentai collection.
|
I'll watch the show but probably going to skip the figures and such this year.
|
This is weird coming from me.. but I don't think it looks too great right now. Maybe it'll be better in action. But the suits and mecha are just...bland. And the tracks across the visor are a bit off putting. I'll still give it a chance, but I may not feel the desire to buy the toys that I've had in the past.
|
What sucks is that it seems they are packing in the aux mecha with the roleplay items, so you'd have to get all the extra stuff to get a full set of trains :(
|
I like helmets. Kinda looks like a knight's helm with the tracks like that. But that Mecha is just meh. There's no real creativity in how it's formed
|
I love those retro style suits but those train mecha are God alful. Their extremely dull looking and the combined mode looks ugly and lazy. Was really hoping for something along the lines of Grand liner/ super train megazord but I guess those days are gone...
|
The Suits
I want to like them. But they just don’t feel right to me. After having such dynamic suits after the last few years these don’t feel right. The helmets look pretty dumb and the rest of the suit body lack imagination in their design. Right now I’m feeling disappointed in the designs but I will reserve final judgment once I see them in action. The Weapons The sword/gun is ok. A little to bulky for my taste but I understand based on the gimmick. The individual weapons look like a completely recycling of Go-Onger. Red sword, blue blaster, green axe…but the yellow hammer and pink claw are cool. But the combined mode, while it shoots bullet trains, is nearly the same as Go-onger’s combined mode. The heck Bandai? |
The look like a classic 80s sentai team.
So I am pumped! :) |
I'm completely against this. I mean, I can see that they were going for a more simplistic style, but following the design complexity of everything from Gokaiger to Kyoryuger, these designs honestly look like someone spent about 5 minutes putting this together before it was presented.
Suits: I feel like these actually have a solid helmet design...until you get to the train track. If they would have left off the track, then these would have had a very cool Megaranger meets Boukenger feel to them (the angular design from Boukenger and the black casing with a lighted interior design like Megaranger). The more I look at them, I can see that they may have been going for a knight's helmet kind of look....but this is a really hard design choice to get behind. Also, if having a giant number on their helmets wasn't gaudy enough, they decided to put another one on each ranger's chest and circle it with, you guessed it, even more train tracks. Weapons: This is just a lazy copy-paste from Go-Onger. Not just the same weapons, but they even combine in the exact same way. Even if you liked Go-Onger's designs, theres no way that you can see this as anything other than laziness. Mecha: Before I even mention the zords, I'll finish talking about the weaponry...Once again, can anyone spot the Go-Onger weapon in this picture? You've got it, that mecha is holding a giant kankan bar. At this point, If the sixth ranger doesn't have a wing trigger, I'll be dissapointed. But about the mecha themselves: this is honestly one of the poorest designs in Sentai history. Aside from flipping down the front of red's train, there appears to be absolutely no transformation whatsoever. Its as if someone took the "snap together gattai" phrase from Kyoryuger and said "hey, I could make that more literal". And honestly, there isn't much more you can say about "TokkyuOh"...because there isn't anymore. Just 5 upright trains stuck together side by side. Oh, and red's train is upside down, there's that. For a minute I thought, "well maybe the auxiliary mecha might add something more interesting". Nope. Guess what guys? We're getting another limb-swapping gimmick. This is the point where I lost hope. I can understand trying to go for something simple, but simple doesn't have to mean lazy. These are horrible designs, so I get to use a horrible pun: this series looks like a train wreck. |
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeuuuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...
Suddenly I no longer have the urge to see the costumes or the mecha (which looks like the inside of a crayon box more than a mech). I hope they look so much better on screen because I have nothing positive to say about them. |
