Kamen Rider Drive Episode 8 "What Is The Secret That Dwells In The Heart?" Discussion
Followed by reporters and Roimudes, what can Shinnosuke do to win??
As always you can view this episode via live stream on Saturday by heading over to Taima TV. They play other miscellaneous programs up until the live broadcast starts. Live Streams are at 6:00 PM Eastern Standard Time on Saturdays. |
When we first found out about Drive's weapons I was kinda 'meh' on the handle sword but now I like it a lot. Door Gun is the opposite of that because I liked it back then and now I'm just 'meh'.
I will say I wish the Burning Solar tire premiered this week along with the Door Gun because I'm really interested in seeing it. |
That was a great episode, I feel Drive is starting to really click together now.
The Door gun is ridiculous but I like how it was used, especially the little exchange between shinnosuke and rinna about how to reload haha. Also nice note is how he holds his gun like cops in crime dramas. |
Chase must've had lost memories about Kiriko. Can he be....?

And he is always mentioning that Mashin Chasers weapons are based on Proto-Drive.

Great episode! The Door Gun is a ridiculous weapon but in a good way. Just the way you have to reload it was funny enough. Next week we get Type: Technique!

Anyone know where I can watch this episode because the site I usually go to doesn't have it

I liked it. The characters are continuing to find their voices and we had some good fight scenes this week; I really enjoyed all the bits with Shinnosuke first learning how to use the Door Gun, particularly his complaining about how needless the loading gimmick is. :lol
That said, it was yet another episode where Chaser is just used to stall for time, is easily defeated, and contributes very little to the overall plot. I am rapidly getting tired of that. |
I enjoyed this episode a lot. The further character development with Chase is interesting, if he wasn't Proto-Drive then I have no clue what they are doing, with him not being able to shoot Kiriko, transforming with a weapon rather than like a normal Roidmude, and being able to use the Shift Cars; it definitely feels that he is especially with him not knowing exactly what he is at the end there. The Door Gun is so awesome, I just love the sillyness with Shinnosuke naming it, and Mr. Belt not liking his names lol. I love the chemistry between Kiriko and Shinnosuke too and I love how they clicked when she met Hayase and how Shinnosuke was chasing after him before spilling things to Kiriko. I really hope Hayase is Mach because I think he would be awesome.

A pretty good episode. The roidmude's betrayal was obvious but it was a fun episode. The Door Gun is a good weapon, although I can sympathise with Belt-San regarding Tomari's name choices. And Chase has some self-contemplation to do.
Also fun was Tridoron's bit of the fight. A good use of tire extension with the wrecker and the spike. The scene with Tomari, Kiriko and Hayase was pretty sweet too. That was nice. |
As always I really enjoyed the episode. The plot was fun even when it was pretty predictable how it would turn out in the end. The fights are great as always and I love the way Shinnosuke is holding the Door Gun. I gotta say I felt really sorry for the Roidmude this week. Drive showed no mercy this time :lol
Finally we get some needed devolopment for Chase and I hope this will get better with the next episodes. The way he comes in from nowhere every episode, stops tridoron, fights a bit and then just leaves is getting annoying. |
I know it's been said by others, but I have to echo the sentiment: I hate that we are backsliding into stretched out/filler 2 parters again. This particular case really did not need it. However, was pleasantly surprised by the character development of Chase and Kiriko this time out.

I think the show has a good opportunity to make a turn here (pun intended). Focus on character development and change the formula with it.
For example, an entire episode that focuses on Mashine Chaser. A whole episode where we see the world out of his eyes. He could hunt down a Roidmude, we watch him doing so, but as he does he remembers fragments of his past and tries to find out more about himself. Of course he clashes with Drive, but Drive himself should only be a side-character in this episode. I think an episode like that could work very well, and they need to do something with Mashine Chaser already, just sitting on his bike in the middle of the road waiting for Drive won't work any longer. You have given him a bit of character development now, we all know where this is going eventually, but please make it interesting. If I want anything out of Drive it's that they carry Mashine Chaser until the end and keep him interesting while doing so. And if he does become Mach and they throw this amazing design away before episode 20 I'm done with this show. |
The next Episodes will have Chaser team up with Heart to take on Drive and we get the new Roidmude general Medic. Sanjo writes this show much more like Rider since Double usually goes having about 10 Episodes to build up the setting and characters and starting to actually tell the story around the episode 13/14 mark.

^ the pacing was VERY W though. I had some serious hard boiled flashbacks.
I'm sure there are no surprises though with who Chaser is, and his relation to Kiriko. But we'll see how far that goes. Kiriko though is slowly becoming my Candelilla of this season. Honestly, the 2 part format doesn't bother me as much. It gives more time to the fight scenes without removing the actual plot of the story, so it doesn't feel rushed each episode. Plus they're giving more than enough suit changes each story in order to get the maximum value out of the wallet suck...I mean marketing. Door Gun is possibly the cutest Rider weapon ever. My biggest gripe is that every time Shinnosuke needs Mr Belt, he's gotta wait for Trideron to arrive. That's kind of annoying. "Oh wait, hold on bad guy that's trying to slow down time and kill me, I've gotta go get my belt out of the car". "Can you wait another second while I turn the switch on it, then pull out my shift car, and put it on my arm thingy while you patiently wait". It's the curse of henshin - When you need your powers now, we're gonna wait as LONG as possible for you to transform. |

Unfortunately, my opinion has not changed from episode 7. I found this to be extremely lackluster, boring, and predictable.
The Door Gun though is Adoorable. Oh, and what is up with the stolen music from W? |

Just finished watching this episode, I am loving what's going on right now with the added deeper mystique and intrigue in Machine Chaser. Also added with the deeper relationship between the members of "Kamen Rider Corps" so to speak. I feel when it's all said and done (if not already), Drive >>> Gaim for me. Love the balance of build-up and pace of the show thus far, pieces are now just starting to fit together and it'll only get better from here IMO.
