Kamen Rider Amazons
Hey everyone,
Has anybody checked out the first episode Kamen Rider Amazons? What are your thoughts on it? |
An interesting first episode. Thought the idea of all the creatures are basically labeled as "Amazons", right down to the, granted more high tech looking, arm band, gives the series a unique hook. While we got a bit more of a look at the person who's the more primal I guess you could say of the two riders I do wish we learned a little more about the the other Rider, outside of he's listening into the "exterminators" comm signal, raises chickens and eats raw eggs. Also kind of wish we learned a little more about the organizations hunting down the "bugs", like how they have one seemingly in control of himself. But it's still the first episode and they're obviously doing some world building in these early episodes so hopefully we'll learn more as it goes along.

I'm not entirely sure what I think so far, which is probably in part because I tried to watch it while sleepy with a bad headache. It's certainly very interesting from a visual standpoint, although I wish the monster costumes were more organic and didn't have the obvious vinyl base. Alpha is freaking awesome, though, and I look forward to seeing more of him. I'm also really happy with how they found a way to sneak Mogura-jujin in here.
I've seen some people complain about the fake CGI blood, but in practice I like it. Bad CGI is the 2010s version of colored shaving foam. |
Is this available on Amazon Prime in the US?

You think if enough people email Amazon and request this show be available in the US, it could potentially happen?
|
People keep harping on its "mature factor" of this show due to it appealing to the older demographic from this online-only release.
From my POV, this show feels like early Heisei Rider.......pre-Kabuto Heisei Rider to be precise. You guys remember those days, don't you? |

But the real "mature factor" people are talking about comes from the show not being strangled by constant toy ads. None of this is to say modern shows aren't good, but they're way more dictated by Bandai, and thus targeted toward a younger toy-buying audience. |

Those belts still look kinda toyish though. |
That was awesome, i would be ok with the team being the main fouce with Omega joining them. I thought Alpha was going to be more like Gills, im glad hes this BAMF of a fighter. =D

Compare that to any KR show since Decade, where it's all: "hey, look at close up shots of our belts for 15 minutes an episode! And listen to all the sounds they make! Also, buy all the weapons and action figures! Here's 136 episodes where all we do is show you the belt and the form changes and weapons! Spend all your money on this screaming plastic trash!" |

I don't want Kamen Rider to suddenly turn into GARO or something, but a more mature, less toy-oriented show with a somewhat darker tone is such a refreshing concept for Rider. Really liked episode 1, definitely hooked on this. |
Really liked episode 1 and it's sort of horror-ish, early Heisei vibe! I wonder how Alpha got his belt though to willingly transform and how Omega will get his. Maybe the chief scientist lady hands them out to certain Amazons? This episode focused more on the strike team and I'm sorta glad since it looks like that they're taking their time to flesh everything out about the main riders and the team as well.
Also liked that they made the mole Amazon an ally or at least a good guy in this. I really like the rest ride team as a whole, I hope the Dragonfly Amazon one doesn't get killed off too early. Aside from the spider ones and the bat Amazon's weird cape, I actually dug the monster suits a lot. Definitely interested to see what other Amazon's will look like and how people seem to be turning into them. |
I posted this is the news thread, but figured I'd dump it here as well.

Personally, the show actually doesn't remind me of the early Heisei era. What it reminds me of more is Ultraseven X (which, in all fairness, I haven't seen) or maybe The First/The Next. It isn't just that this is a Rider show that isn't focused on selling toys, but it's taking the kid-friendly action heroes and creating a show that is directly aimed at adults. No argument that the early Heisei shows skewed older, but this really does feel like something that isn't intended for children. |
I get that it’s an exhausting and/or painful procedure so the actor has to do something, but man his constant panting and screaming already annoys me.

I'm excited that we live in a world where we can apparently have both flavors of Rider. And I'd absolutely flip out if they released a similar Sentai project. I would literally lose it. :lol |
Finally got around to watching episode 1 subbed, myself.
Yeah, sign me up for Figuarts of these guys. I'm sold. |

This was cool. It's nice to see a new Toku show that isn't a gigantic toy commercial. I really like the Resident Evil-ish Horror vibe it had, I wish there was more of that in Rider. Definitely interested in seeing where this all goes!

I watched the first episode and it was pretty good. It was really boring at the beginning, but picked up afterwards. I can't wait to see more of the Amazons in action.
|
So far I'm more than fine with this show, I just hope they stop having Omega "bite" enemies when his evolved form clearly has no mouth.

Above all else I just think it's an awesome suit design, regardless of referential expectation. |
So is there a place to stream this at? I'm not a fan of downloads, and this show look pretty cool. It could take me out of my Toku outed phase thing.

Be careful there are a lot of pop up ads. |

While Alpha's concept is the wild side of things. Which is why I too am not a huge fan of Omega's design compared to Alpha. |
