Uchu Sentai KyuRanger Episode 21- "Goodbye Scorpio! Return Of The Argo!" Discussion
Stinger braces for one last fight against his treacherous brother, while Lucky & Kotaro team up to try & save their comrade. Which side will prevail?
As always you can view this episode via live stream on Saturday by heading over to Taima TV. They play other miscellaneous programs up until the live broadcast starts. Live Streams of the Superhero Time block start at 5:30 PM Eastern Standard Time on Saturdays. |
They should of just save Hooh for next week because Scorpio's screen time got cut short and it just felt like they cram another episode in too early.
|
Someone needs to change at Power Rangers wiki that Hooh Soldier is the 6th Ranger, and Ryu Commander is the 'Dekamaster' of the team.

Hmm... It's a weird thing that Scorpio's actor didn't get a flower in the Toei site. Same with Madako's voice actor. So, it might be not the last time we will see them, especially the latter. I know that Scorpio doesn't last really long but he is a big time villain. I even remembered that Ikargen's voice actor got flower after finishing his role.

Well, this was awful. Great way to ruin all the good build-up from the last episode :rolleyes
Scorpio protecting Stinger made zero sense, that's my biggest problem with this episode. We never, ever, had a single moment where we as the audience could truly believe something good was still left in Scorpio. Hell, last week he was still happily torturing his brother. You probably all watched Star Wars, right? Darth Vader turning on the Emperor and stuff, that's how it's done. Here it is literally just "I'm losing so might as well be a good guy again now". What the hell. Champ coming back was cool, it really was, but all the following drama between Scorpio and Stinger was completely lost on me because of the unbelievable turn by Scorpio. And that is a real shame considering this was supposed to be the big finish to Stinger's mini-arc, which in my opinion was Kyuranger at its best. And then... this Phoenix dude. Dear Lord. It's like they realized Lucky wasn't a stupid asshead who shouted his stupid catchphrase non-stop lately so they introduced another Red Ranger who fits the bill. He is annoying as fuck. Not funny, not interesting, annoying. I get that he needs some development and stuff, but his introduction was complete crap. Also, the ship is worthless? Please tell me that isn't the case. If they just summoned the ship to wake up this annoying idiot my respect for this show will sink even further. And it's already in the negative. |
I'm 5 minutes in and the mecha just used a sickle whip thing. I really should just stop right here. There is no other direction this episode can go from here except down.

For variety's sake, I hope it's Ryu Commander since it would nice to have a new colour on the Sixth Ranger roster (although I would be okay if both Ryu and Houou are both 6ths), and with the recent overuse of red (Kyoryuger, Ninninger and Zyuohger) I'm getting a bit tired of it. Yes, I am aware of TimeFire's existence and it's been 17 years since he arrived (compared to 21 years between Black 6th Rangers), but personally it's too soon for a red 6th ranger, in a short period of time which has been nothing but red this and red that. |
This episode should've been two different episodes. It was too rushed. Something is definitely off with Hooh Soldier. He's weird but dangerous at the same time. Also seems like we have two humans on the team now. Hooh Soldier's helmet is really interesting because it looks like a helmet inside a helmet.

Well my feelings on this one are a little mixed. In general I loved it, but man, that resolution with Scorpio was just... not quite right.
I mean, I get what they were going for, like, Stinger's words remind him of who he used to be and he gains some clarity as he's dying or whatever, but when you spent so long (very effectively!) pushing the idea that this guy really was just a total lost cause, and showing him to constantly actively take pleasure in what a colossal jerk he is, it comes off pretty rushed. I'm happy Stinger got his catharsis and all, but the script here definitely needed some fine-tuning to get the audience to accept what happened. Maybe ditch the whole "keep on living!" bit and just have him save Stinger without any speechifying, which could leave this kind of gray area where Scorpio himself doesn't even understand his sudden change of heart. Or how about Stinger and Champ have a little heart to heart at the end where said sudden change of heart just leaves Stinger even more confused, or maybe Champ can be like "Yeah I still hate that guy's guts" to make it clear the show doesn't want us to suddenly forgive Scorpio or anything stupid like that, which I think IS the idea here, but again, they don't really touch on it properly. Anyway, that's a whole lot of complaining, and I guess when I'm whining about Kyuranger it's pretty damning, so I'll end by reiterating that I still enjoyed the episode a ton. The Scorpio stuff isn't totally irredeemable since it's still great development for Stinger (who's ultimately the important party here), and I kind of like Ho-Oh Soldier(?), even though he stole Geki Violet's catchphrase and apparently thinks he's a Buster, even though he's obviously nowhere near that cool, but that debut was crazy! The kind of crazy that makes Kyuranger feel so different and fresh, even if a couple months from now he'll probably have trouble taking on single monsters. |
|
Yeah, that was one painful stumble after a decent enough string of episodes. Resolution of the Scorpio storyline was weak.
Rest of the episode was ok enough. I do find Tsurugi entertaining, at least. |

Does anyone know what Kyutama, Tsurugi was holding at the end of the episode?
|
Was that a Casshern nod during the machine takedown battle ? Or am I just being crazy ?
|
Wait, he's gone already? But I thought he was going to be the villain that would be throughout the whole show and be developed.

that's really dissapointing let's hope that he is comeback or something also ho-oh soldier is weird and kinda narcist oh holy moly |
Yea, this Episode....umm.....NO......
So we start off very heartwarming with Champ's return....and don't get me wrong, I really liked this scene, and props to both Stinger and Champ's actors being able to really nail down this moment making it feel so heartwarming(really liked their back & forth banter like old times, but this time with some undertones of care for each other), but.....honestly, I really wish they kinda played up a bit on the possible consequences of Champ possibly not returning completely to his old self again due to his reboot. I'd have liked to see some time of Stinger reacting to how badly his mistake cost Champ, and for him to really have some time of reform. At the same time, we could work this as a mini-Arc of Champ slowly regaining his memories, until he finally becomes whole. And know WHEN that mini-Arc should've ended....? A while later, definitely a couple Episodes down the line, around when the Scorpio conflict should be ending.....ya know, like THIS SCORPIO CONFLICT ENDED, EXCEPT NOT SO ABRUPTLY LIKE THIS EPISODE?!! MY GOSH, Kyuranger dropped the ball on such a good Arc! I didn't at all expect this Episode to be where Scorpio is actually defeated....but for them to not just stop there, but to make him all of a sudden flip good & defend his brother, after all the scumbaggery he's done all this time?! C'MON NOW.....Really?!! And then let's talk about Ho-oh Soldier...........WUT. IS. THIS. GUY'S. DEAL. I....really don't know what to make of this guy. He comes off as a showoff who....can actually back up his words, given how he was almost singlehandedly able to ward off an entire fleet of Consumarz! (Now watch as later Episodes don't portray him with feats NEARLY as impressive as this....) But what bothers me the most about his introduction is.....just how abrupt it is. We barely know ANYTHING about him, and he doesn't even really interact with the team. He just comes out the Argos, destroys the fleet, and then leaves off to do his own thing? There's barely any context here on this guy...... |

To be fair, getting the ultimate weapon to save the universe this early on wouldn't have worked anyways, but in that case, they should've just played down the myth a bit. However, if the real weapon/power to destroy Jark Matter is locked behind something the Voyager literally opens like a key would then all is forgiven, then they made something really clever with this, because as far as I remember the Argo was said to be "The key to defeating Jark Matter" or something like that. |

[Metal Gear reference goes here] This episode was terrible. They tried to shove in too many plot points everything is so rushed and fast paced it's all over the place. |
Not only did they pretty much forget about Stinger by the halfway point, but they wasted the only worthwhile villain this show may have had. And now we have some lame Cousin It love child lf Magi Red and Shinken Red that doesn't understand the concept of clothing who is acting all big and bad and will probably end up getting his ass handed to him in the next episode, making him realize how he needs to work as a team. UGH!

Just a reminder, KyuRanger is off this weekend. Episode 22 will air on 7/23.
