ZI-O vs. Decade: Decade's house of death game
First episode RAWs just went up on Nyaa.si. No one transformed so far in the first episode, and I don't actually think anyone will transform much outside of Tsukasa and/or Yusuke.
There 6 members who come from ZI-O/Decade and there 4 others who aren't. That makes it 10 participants, each of them has had their memories removed or seemingly altered. Sougo is a basketball player, we don't know if he's OUR Sougo, but he's there, Heure is the son of a rich businessman, Hora is a actor, Swartz is a lawyer Yusuke is unknown for now. Tsukasa is Tsukasa. The 4 other members do not come from ZI-O/Decade. Lockdealer Sid whom is fittingly a Yakuza, Oren as a housewife, and Mizuki from Amazons whom is Kudo Misa. The last one is a random old man who is the Liar Dopant. Very strange line up. All members find themselves in the house asleep, only awaken after Sougo accidentally drops his basketball. Clown mask dude shows up via TV and tells them the first game and gives them a timer of 10 minutes. I think the first game is to grab a different look chair, which all members except the old man and Sid succeed in doing. The old man being promptly given a chair by Misa. Sid didn't bother with the game, sitting in the dinner table chair he was already sitting in, and then was promptly killed by Another Ryuki via soul absorption. The second game has them look for a kitchen pot, to which Oren fails to get one. He is then killed by Another Ryuki as well. They also find out that the old man disappeared from their sights and later find him on the door way with a stab wound behind him. Misa finds the body first and is in shock, money also flowing from the old man's brief case. Yusuke and Swartz examines the body, but then the door opens, revealing Tsukasa, looking at Yusuke and says "Long time no see, Yusuke." Very interesting first episode, bit disappointed that no one transformed, but I stayed for the developments anyway. It's also interesting to note that in the preview, Tsukasa mentions that the game is created by "The True Sougo". |
WOW..... I was holding out, hoping the Decade21 suit was a fake or a fan-made thing.. WOW IT IS SO DAMN UGLY I can’t even BEGIN to show someone who doesn’t know Kamen Rider this without fear of being thrown out of wherever I am at the moment, or punched in the face for creating traumatized friends... :/s seriously, it looks INCREDIBLY LAME and CHEAP AF. Disappointing to see this garbage suit, possibly the ugliest suit ever created for Kamen Rider, and Zi-O had PLENTY of horrendous suits.
|
One-off powered-up suits being cost-cut isn't anything new.
As lazy as the 21 suit's new parts are I'd rather take what remolds it did over a slight recolor of an existing suit. Zi-O re-used a lot of past suits and pieces but credit where it's due, it did so really well imo. Still really like all the future rider designs. |
Isn't this variant technically Decade vs. Zi-O and not Zi-O vs. Decade?
Ah this'll be fun and confusing. Anyway, I glimpsed at the raw video, the usage of Another Ryuki seems interesting, and I also enjoyed Tsukasa's entrance at the very end. |
People are not gonna be happy with Decade Complete 50 when that comes out...
|
Man, it's... bizarre seeing Complete 21 called 'lazy' when it's very clearly not. They're going completely overboard with it in ways they really didn't have to - the double forehead, the cape - in ways that clearly show they're embracing how dumb the original looked and running with it. It's silly and funny and one of the best things I've ever seen

I just checked on Nyaa and it looks like it's out, just search up Kamen Rider and you'll find it as the most recent result instantly.

We are now introduced to four Sougos in total with both specials. Both specials also feature a set of characters trapped in a particular location. I'd like to know the placement and "canonicity" of this special, whether the death game special takes place before, after, or along with the 7 Sougos and does it take place before or after Geiz Majesty.
|
I feel like they for sure have to take place after Geiz Majesty, at least the 7 Sougo's one.
But given they're being released at the same time, we could be seeing a "Watch both simultaneously to get the full picture" kind of specials here. Hey at the very least we aren't waiting 3 weeks for this to conclude. Since each one is releasing a chapter today, a chapter on Sunday, and then next Sunday on the 21st. |

Haven't seen the episode yet, maybe I'll wait for it to be subbed. |
So having seen the episode with subtitles (Tv-Nihon subbed the first episode), it presents a very unique situation here.
Mostly because the place they're at is referred to as the Dimensional Mansion, Tsukasa's words in the previews, how this is a game that's been done tons of times, there's no telling who from what dimension will show up, and that the true Sougo is behind this and they need to draw him out. Something tells me everyone in the mansion (Including Basketball Sougo) is an AR version of a character they've played, sans Yuusuke and Tsukasa. |
The 7 Sougos now confirms this takes place after Majesty, since Geiz mentions he still wants to be a savior.
|
Yeah, plus Sougo, Geiz and Tsukuyomi all retaining their powers.
I do sorta like how we're playing with a lot of AR stuff here, given well the Decade Death Mansion seems to have AR counterparts for canon characters like the Time Jackers, and then you've got all the AR Sougo's here that go to entirely different schools converging on the normal Sougo's school. I am curious as to see who that kid was with Tsukuyomi in the next episode preview, granted I may have a hunch. |
Okay, got this one down, too. Liked it more than the Zi-O one because it made at least a little bit of sense and has an interesting premise. If nothing else, I'm going to stick around to find out who murdered the drunk old doctor from Kabuto (also, having just rewatched that series I instantly recognized the setting as the secret ZECT base where Gon was imprisoned/completely unrelated second use of the location). My money is on the school girl from Amazons.
|
Calling it now, the jester guy is Narutaki.
|
I'mma say Jester is definitely Decade related in terms of who the character is.
It feels weird how there's a weapon game, and the weapons are referred to as "treasures" in the preview with Tsukasa verbally mentioning our favorite Treasure Sniper. Oddly enough sounds like Tsukasa's trying to track down and kill the Sougo who did the reset at the end of Zi-O, mentioning how the True Sougo used a lot of power and weakened before running off here. Even though this Oma we see has the standard Oma voice from what little previews we get. |

Something tells me Basketball Sougo sacrifices himself to keep Oma at bay and let Tsukasa escape with the Saber ridewatch to hand it to 7 ZI-Os Sougo. The "The Battle will not end here..." and this shot reminds me of the:
"What are you doing?!" "To buy you time!" Trope. |

I miss TV Show Sougo so the revelation that he still exists is an exciting development. Why is he forcing everybody in to a death game though? Basketball Sougo, Tsukasa, Yusuke, Uhr and Ora are the last 5 players remaining. Who could the axe murderer be? Ora seems to have an alibi for Swartz's death so it's probably not her, but the trailer makes her look suspicious around Uhr. The Zi-O and Decade sides don't seem to set in the same time. The Zi-O characters are still stuck in 2018/2019 while Tsukasa and Yusuke are from the present due to the powers of Zero One and Saber. Maybe Oma Zi-O has stopped time to trap them in a world he considers perfect? Basketball Sougo has a brief connection with Misa before she sacrifices herself. Cool Sougo is in a relationship with the Misa of his world. Does that imply that all Sougos are destined to have a relationship with a Misa? By extension, Uhr's crush is doomed to be unrequited? |
My hypothesis on the murderer: Yusuke. This Yusuke ain't our Yusuke.
Yusuke was the ONLY ONE we didn't check up on when the hide-&-seek game was going on. Right at the beginning, he ran OUT of the house in order to "hide," then he was the one who found the body of Schwartz. (I really, REALLY hope this is an ACTUAL murder mystery Series that gives us the pieces of information we need to solve the case, and not one of those "But it was really *insert new character we never knew was there in the first place*" shows) |
I cannot wait for subs for part 3
Because man. I had to pause the video like three times not even halfway in because of the surprising reveals that just... happened. Like damn. |
This was just.... N o .
It's so... random. And not the "Wow, Inoue writing so good!" random. So many things happening at once, while barely making sense. The final game is free-for-all, with Yuusuke being revealed as the killer (knew it) and attempting to kill everybody. Hora gets to kil Heure though. BUT we learn that this Yuusuke is an AR world where he is batshit insane or some shit and stabs Tsukasa. BUT we learn that this Sougo is from an AR world where he is a... Robot? AND Misa's ghost is there. Okay? BUT we learn that Heure is NOT dead, but some weird ass alien sentai dude that just wanted to play along? BUT the clown dude was Narutaki who didn't even bother to say "Onore Dikeido" and was conspiring with Oma ZI-O or something? Robo ZI-O and Decade fight Oma AND Diend, Kivala, and Kuuga join in to fight and lose. With Kaito and OUR Yuusuke having their own one-liner while the Kivala suit is just making girl noises for obvious reasons. BUT they lose, Robo Sougo gives the Saber ridewatch to Decade, and then... it's all a dream by Student Sougo in the 7- ZI-Os? What? |
Given what's happening to Tsukasa in Seven Sougo's, I wouldn't be surprised if this is actually real and Sougo was just having a dream of a pre-existing event.
But yeah no, the sudden twists about three of our murder mystery members is why I had to pause the video like dozens of times. |

You know the more I think about it.
The more I sort of realize that I should have expected something batshit insane like this because even Tsukasa specifies "This place is a distortion that brings in people from other dimensions, there's no telling who is from what dimension" I just didn't think we'd go so far with it. |
Huh okay so basically
The Onodera we see is not the Onodera we know. Misa was dead all along, Uhr is a space ninja. Sougo's from a world where humanity died out and became robots and somehow Saber is involved because he has a Saber Watch, was the become robot part a Kikai reference? Maybe. So yeah no clue on who this Oma Zi-O actually is, because I sure as heck aren't sure as to who it is in the next one despite the explanation they give. But basically he's stuck between dimensions cause his power went kaput and roped Narutaki into making a death game to try and find a candidate to replace himself with. This sounds like a Danganronpa spin-off honestly. This special all together was neat, um, that's all I can really say on it. |

In all honesty, I want to see the worlds where we’re all robot and aliens respectively in greater detail.
In all honesty, this three parter worked as a good murder mystery, but if that’s not what you’re here for, then I suppose that’s alright. I in all honesty did not expect Narutaki’s actor to pull off that high voice though. |

So, as usual for me with these serialized spinoff deals, I waited until everything was all out and subbed to binge it all in one sitting, starting with this one completely on chance, which turned out to be a great choice considering it's very explicitly part one of two, despite the simultaneous release gimmick.
So like, right away, on a conceptual level, something has already gone wrong, but I'll save that kind of talk for the 7 Sougos thread. This one is more of an appetizer than anything, and it's not offensively horrible. Just an okay-ish murder mystery featuring Decade that almost hits a note of mad brilliance at the very end when Inoue basically announces to the viewers you should've never been taking this seriously to begin with. And credit where credit is due, Tsukasa did tell us there's no guarantee everyone there was human! That's legitimate foreshadowing! Overall though, I can't say I got too invested. It seems like a waste to have this Yuusuke be a knockoff of the knockoff, for one thing, (I take some umbridge with the idea that any version of Yuusuke in the multiverse would be a crazed killer too, but, you know, onore Dikeido) and none of the other characters were doing too much for me outside of Sougo, who captured a surprising amount of what I like about Sougo, despite being a robot. So yeah, not soul-crushingly awful, but a pretty unnecessary feeling series that's shockingly light on outright superhero action. If I'm being blunt, you're probably best off just watching Go-Rider again for your Rider mystery mini-series fix. |

I mean if we want to get really technical here Demost did appear in a Sentai related thing. That Kyuranger Space Squad thing.
|
I am very confused as to what on earth I just watched.
The fact it was connected to the Decade vs. Zi-O special was neat in my opinion though. |
Wait doesn't Heure being a space ninja meant he could've left any time he wanted? He practically stuck around just for the lulz.

smh. Inoue. I am continually impressed by your unfailing capacity to take novel ideas and hand in nonsense. No one is better at what you do... it's just a shame that what you do is write poorly.
