Kamen Rider Ex-Aid Episode 4- "The Operation Name Is Dash!" Discussion
RACE TO THE FINISH!
Emu has been rendered powerless thanks to Snipe. How can he fight against the Bugsters now?! As always you can view this episode via live stream on Saturday by heading over to Taima TV. They play other miscellaneous programs up until the live broadcast starts. Live Streams of the Superhero Time block start at 6:30 PM Eastern Standard Time on Saturdays. |

Rider AKShōn! |
Aw nuts. I was actually half expecting him to be a good guy too, but nope. Kiriya's actually a dick too. I was aware of that being a possibility but I wanted to think otherwise. Lmao.
Didn't get to focus on this episode as much as I would have liked to while watching it so I probably missed some stuff, but Kiriya looks like kind of a fun character nonetheless. And his transformation moves are pretty cool. The kick is distinctive. He revealed his true colors awfully quick though, so I'm curious to see how he and Emu interact going forward. He still needs a Rider, after all. Robot Action Gamer actually looks pretty cool! Next episode should be interesting. |
The nerve of Kiriya! To think he wouldn't be mean to him like the other two.
I just hope they keep some friendship with him. Next episode, Ex-Aid's upgrade! But will we see Genm's true identity soon in next week's episode or the other? |
I am felt the person who holding Gashacon Bugvisor is possessed by Genm. This probably much like someone transform into Odin.....

Hmm...I hope Genm has unique things....hmm...since Bugsters can possess human bodies, so probably thats how Genm's possession works...... |
Little trivia in case anyone didn't know.
The VOTW is played by Takuya Negishi aka Hikaru Raido aka Ultraman Ginga |

This show just keeps getting better and better. I don't think I've been this invested in a Rider show from the beginning since Gaim.
Kiriya seems like a fun character. Not necessarily there for solely comedy relief, but he's certainly the most light-hearted of the extra riders. |
I hope in episode 7, Kiriya better start treating Emu like a friend for real instead of lying to him all the time.
Emu needs a bike to back him up! |

Subs are up. Shit is getting real
This is totally going Gaim, i can feel it |
Lazer can remove the wheels, nice!
The race was admittedly kinda boring but the other action scenes were cool, especially with Genm. Nice preview for Level 3's power too, and Lazer was a fun character |
If this show keeps going the way it is, Drive has competition as my favorite series. I'm ending up enjoying all the characters for one reason or the other, much like I did Drive and Gaim. Good shit.

This was a pretty good episode. I wonder if Dan secretly knew Lazer's lvl 2 form is a motorcycle and gave it to Kiriya anyway as a middle finger to Kiriya for trying to blackmail him about Zero Day.
Speaking of Kiriya, the twist with him at the end actually did surprise me. Especially since he looked really concerned for the VOTW during the flashback where the guy get's infected with the Bugstar virus, and that moment where the VOTW yells at Emu for taking him to the CR instead of chasing the Bugstar with Lazer. Lastly I love how they've made Genm such a big threat in the show. Seriously he's crushed every opponent he's had so far. The Gamma in episode 48 of KR Ghost, Necrom ans Specter in episode 49 of KR Ghost, Ex-Aid and Brave in episode 2, and now Brave and Snipe then Ex-Aid and Lazer in this episode. The dude is basically a stage hazard that you always got to be aware of or else you'll get blown away. On side-note, I also love how the same sound effect from Accel's Trial Memory for the countdown at the beginning of the race. |
I hate how Lazer threw Ex-Aid away after the fight.
I wish they became real friends instead of being a pawn. Without a bike, Ex-Aid is nothing. |
Another berzerko episode!
I'm liking the subtle condemnation of that subset of the medical / science field who are obsessed with discovery over human care. That's a bit sociopathic and disturbing - I like the idea of instilling the virtue of empathy in tykes! |
This was a lot of fun. I'm not quite on the Ex-Aid hype train the way everybody else is but it's been a good show so far.
- I like this Kiriya guy. He's goofy and not actively antagonistic, if only because he can't be bothered to care. There goes Emu's one chance to make a buddy though. I guess that's just the curse of being the protagonist of a multiple Rider show. Ex-Aid and Brave will just have to improve their teamwork now. :p - Speaking of which, it's cute that the bike has its own agenda and all, but that doesn't bode well for the amount of bike action we'll be getting. At least there's a built-in reason for it this time. - Also Lazer's Level 2 stock footage is almost as cool as Ex-Aid's. Almost. - Genm is just a straight-up troll, isn't he? I'll be kind of amazed if there's any motive to his appearances so far, because it seems like all he wants to do is show up and wail on everyone for a bit before just as quickly leaving. I'm not gonna lie, it's sort of endearing in its pointlessness. |
Only have a couple of comments for this episode:
1) Why is the theme song playing in a talking scene? That's 4Kids levels of out of place BGM. 2) RIDE ME! |

The only one that's a little iffy is when he showed up to mess up Brave and Snipe in the middle of the episode, but I think that makes sense too. GENM is pretty much confirmed to be one of the general Bugsters, and their dialog in this episode is pretty telling of their motives. They're playing a game, and they sound pretty hyped about having all five players active now--of having these cool showdowns between the humans and the Bugsters. Whichever way the Snipe/Brave fight went, it'd pretty much mean one less player participating, and I imagine the Bugsters would see that as spoiling the fun. The infighting between the humans doesn't really do anything for them. So, he stopped them. But, that's just my fan wank for now. Possibly it could just be pointless. Which could also be the point. I'm convinced GENM is Graphite, and the bio we have of him pretty much just says "the dude likes to fight." It'd make some sense. (in the same vein, starting to think GENM stands for Graphite Eats Normies for...Mbreakfast). |
Ignore this, I wrote a comment in the wrong thread.
As a side note, how do I delete my comments? |

Oh, and it sure was polite of Ex-Aid and Lazer to just stand there for almost a full minute (I counted) while Genm transformed and readied his special attack. You gotta appreciate manners like that. :lol |
Its just the beginning for the four riders. They're just slowly being assembled and upgrading to their level 3s until the biggest game is about to begin.
Next week is Ex-Aid's level 3. And then the last four. And they better start working together in later episodes! |

Well, Blade showed that trying to interrupt was a bad idea. |

Just to be clear, I'm not at all complaining, either. It's hilarious in that endearing, early Blade bad acting kind of way. They could have a scene that egregious in every episode of Ex-Aid and I'd love it every time. |
We're already getting form upgrades, holy smokes! I'm totally just waiting for this show to go nuts, well, really just go more nuts.
As far as Lazer goes though, I think even though he was just lying to Emu the whole episode he won't really be as antagonizing as Brave and Snipe. I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up opening up as the series went along. |

That being said, I would really start to appreciate Brave more if the show were to start highlighting how, despite his attitude, he's actually Emu's most reliable ally. That being said, I want my Kamen Riders to actually ride something, dangit! |
The narrated intro still gives me strong Gaim vibes.
I like Lazer, he's not like Snipe and I think he'll become more of an ally later on with Brave. Also, maybe I'm late noticing this, but Graphite was holding Genm's gun weapon, but the preview looks as if the human villain is Genm. Also, anyone get Gundam vibes from Ex-Aid new form in the preview? |
Adding on to Genm kicking arse, that's actually making him a pretty intimidating villain. The colour palette is MUCH better and gives off a more sinister look, his theme is kickass and scream 'Oh shit he's here', he doesn't talk which gives the impression he's out for blood, and him beating the others to an inch of their life with ease is SCARY as it basically means "I can decide when I want you dead. I'm always going to be out there and if I want to, I WILL finish you off". Fantastic

I'm probably just spoiled by that other black and purple (kind of) Rider from a couple years ago who was no less threatening but had clear motives by this point. Not that anyone can ever be as cool as Chase in general. Obviously they're two totally different styles of characters, and I do dig Genm so far, but I'm really curious what his purpose is going to be. |
Quote:
This time, GENM isn't just a roadblock. He's actively seeking out and engaging our heroes with the intention of beating them down for some unknown reason. That's FAR more scary and threatening to me. |

His clear motivations also made it clear he was driven, too. The whole mystery man thing definitely has its own appeal, but I prefer the way Drive did it. Just a personal thing. I really don't mean to say "zOmg Genm wurst cHaracTer Evar!", because he isn't. I guess I'll just have to see where he goes. I feel sort of bad picking on Ex-Aid when it's only four episodes in, because I have enjoyed it a lot already, but I'm not finding it engaging to the level other people already seem to be so far. |
Quote:
I'm just saying, to me, GENM is much more threatening than Chase ever was. |

Got to watch this episode today!! Am I the only person that noticed that the Bugster's head/helmet looked like the grunt/soldiers from Gokaiger/SMF?
