As a focus episode I think it didn't flesh out Asuna that much. I mean the episode could have focused on Koh or Towa and the episode would have had the same effect. Melto or Banba would have acted differently from Asuna because that's not in their character.

I agree, Asuna pretty much just acted like Asuna throughout the entire episode and her issue of not being taken seriously was not resolved at all. She showed Wyzul who’s boss but her friends haven’t learned anything.
This really falls short considering how well Melto was handled in his focus episode. There was a lot of fun to be had here, don’t get me wrong, the way they beat the Minosaur was hilarious and I quite enjoy seeing more of Kreon again after he wasn't really doing much lately, but as a character focus episode this could've been better. It sucks since I like Asuna, I’d say she’s my favorite alongside Bamba, so I’d wish they could’ve done a bit more here. Also, the scene were Tyramigo cheers up Asuna reminded me of how much better this show could be if all Dinoknights were not only actual suits instead of CG models, but also all able to shrink down and interact with their partners. Tyramigo gets a whole lot of screen time but the Ryusoulgers only call their own designated Dinoknights when they fight which is kinda lame. I know it’s a budget-thing but still. |
For a hot minute I had this thrill of seeing some actual drama in a Sentai episode. Where the friend (who was Wyzul posing) actually turned against the MSOTW (Mary Sue of the Week) was like "why would I actually forgive you?" I had this moment where I thought "Dag thats cold. If that's the case, this guy is really gonna fall to the depths" and then it turned out that was fakery. But if that had kept up? Then you're talking some real old school Sentai story lines. But no, someone decided to go with misaligned misogyny instead.
Also, please give that boxer guy a role in another series. I really like him. Yes, the Rube Goldberg of defeating your Kaijus is fun. But lets talk about the real issue. LESS THAN TWENTY DOLLARS FOR FOUR POUNDS OF KOBE STEAK? Sign me up right away Japan. |
The overall theme of Asuna being more than she portrays herself to be (a food loving girl) was done well in this episode (especially towards the end with Wyzerul) but I agree that the whole, the other RyuSoulgers brushing her aside and not being taken seriously, is never really resolved.
On it's own, it's not a bad focus episode but the Melt one last week did a much better job. |
Aside from the glaring issue that I don't actually feel like I know anything more about Asuna having watched it, this was a really great episode. The story here is super punchy, with a solid Victim of the Week plot and some strong writing for the actions scenes between stuff like Melto doing honest to goodness strategizing (it's like he has an established personality and everything!) and a creative way to end the robot fight.
I'd probably say I actually prefer this over last week's episode by just a bit. Despite not fleshing her out to the same level, I also feel like this episode did a better job making me engage with Asuna's whole plight than I did with Melto's, so I think it evens out. |
So, Wyzul taunting Asuna as she struggled to hold the boxer from falling. Is Wyzul really risking such a strong Minosaur on the kid surviving that fall just to fuck with her?

I enjoyed it, though as others have said Asuna didn't get any particular development despite it being her episode.
The Minosaurs seem to be largely Kureon's division, while the other Druidon just do whatever they feel like. |
Another solid focus episode. We didn't learn much more about Asuna but the episode reinforced her traits: clumsy and maybe a little naive, but headstrong and can be formidable if angered. I really liked the guest of the week and his struggle was relatable. Action was excellent and KishiryuOh Ankyloze looked great and has a really dope finisher. I also loved the creativity during the fight with the Rube Goldberg-esque road set-up. It made for a good reinforcement of Asuna's character traits while also being aesthetically impressive. Good stuff.
The characters talk super fast though, I get its part of the breakneck pacing but holy. |
