"Toei Japan Channel" Project Canceled?
1 Attachment(s)
A few months ago we reported the possibility of Toei branching out into US networks with a new cable channel.
Now it seems the project has come to an abrupt end. Henshin Justice received notice that the selected distributor, MyGlobe TV, will not be carrying the channel as expected. Unless some new developments occur, it seems unlikely that this project will ever get off the ground. |
Well...there goes that xD

Aw poo....

That sucks.

We all knew this would crash and burn, we just couldn't answer when. But now we have our answer.

Honestly, from what I've heard about it, it was a pretty horrible idea anyway. A channel that you have to pay extra for that only broadcasts shows in Japanese, and then they'll only make subs if there are enough subscribers...
If they'd started out with subbed shows then this would have been great, but who's going to pay for a channel that they wouldn't even be able to fully enjoy? |
Can't say I'm surprised. It's a niche audience and also it was rather expensive for one channel. Not to mention if they were selling the channel overseas there would have been a much harsher crackdown on fansubs, which would have put us at their mercy of what they deemed worthy to give us as far as older shows go.
That being said, it would have been cool to have such a channel here in the states. |
Most people were expecting this to fail anyway so now its not coming period.
However, I still hope we get Kamen Rider and Super Sentai blu-ray and DVD subs officially from them. I'd be willing to buy offical DVDs or Blu-rays of Kamen Rider if they exist. Toei, I know you realize you have an western fanbase, because there's a good deal of collectors importing the Snetai and Rider toys and figures every year(which mind you is hundreds of dollars per dedicated collector for Bandai and Toei each year.) The western toku fanbase has gotten pretty big over the past few years thanks to the internet. And Toei doesn't even need to dub it, thus making them more money. |
Wish I could say I was surprised, but this was such a niche concept to begin with, especially with the network planning to air in raw Japanese. Honestly, I'd kind of forgotten this was even a thing.

Im not upset, it wasnt goin to have subs to begin with so why would I be upset?
