S.H. Figuarts Shinkocchou Seihou Kamen Rider Black Revealed
2 Attachment(s)
A blast from the past, Shinkocchou Seihou returns to the Showa age with Kamen Rider Black!
Revealed through scans of Figure Ō Magazine No. 273, courtesy of Hong Kong toyshop "Naughty Guy". https://www.facebook.com/NGtoyshop/ http://www.tokunation.com/attachment...1&d=1603446284 |
Seems to be such a big improvement over the skinny "renewal".
I'm probably just being a brainlet, but is it just me or is his stomach still a tad bit too thin? Or, like they should be more straight instead of being more hourglass. https://i.ytimg.com/vi/g91rDMOzPYc/hqdefault.jpg |
Fantastic to see more Showa again! ... though, uh... they've now run through all the popular ones...
In any case I guess this was going to be the big reveal at Tamashii Nations. Guessing he'll release on April 1st. |
Ehhh, I’m sure it’ll be fantastic but it would have probably been my last choice for a Showa Seihou. Gonna be forever until I get a new V3 at this rate :(

What I noticed almost immediately are the new cuts in the pelvic area. The older figures only articulated from the legs going inside this piece, the new one breaks up the sculpt to better the articulation and I like it, that's clever.

The other I could see being niche but he was the second Rider to get this own show. Quote:
In fact I expect him to go up for pre-order before the event even starts. |

Great to see Showa again. I imagine the next one will be either Shadow Moon or RX. Hope this means that they'll give us Seihous of every Showa Rider.
|
This seems really unnecessary, but I guess this is an opportunity for people to get a quality Black figure if they missed the last one. I personally am not going to buy a 4th version of Black (in this scale). It'd be nice, I think, if Bandai would focus a little harder on making figures of characters that don't already have several versions out there. Or failing that, update someone who needs it more like Tackle.
|
Well...I was hoping for Faiz, but Black is nice too.

If anyone Showa-related is in desperate need of a SS renewal it's ZX. And I hope Bandai knows this.

I'm happy with the renewal version that came out in 2013. I honestly can't always upgrade the same figure over and over again.

Wow, it seems like they're getting closer to a seamless design with those shoulder joints. The shoulder joints also look a little...too organic.

Worthy upgrade IMO. I hope this spirals into more, I need a new Battle Hopper, Shadow Moon, and all the RX-stuff. |
The fabric folds highlights something I've noticed about these SS figures: they're aiming to recreate the suits, not the characters. Iirc, Black was supposed to be a biological transformation, so he technically shouldn't have fabric folds because the "suit" is actually his skin.

The organic part is true but - skins have folds too and while different, I would assume a flexible exoskeleton has them as well. And they might look conveniently a lot like bent rubber ;) |

...and my disappointment of it not being Faiz has melted away at seeing those images.
He looks so good. |
Daaaanng that looks really good! Very tempted to pick him up now.

It is a April 2021 release costing 7700 yen

Like, OOO TaToBa for instance was 6480 Yen; and he had a whole Combo Change gimmick, a new joint system and a wide array of accessories. We've had quite a few pictures of Black so far and no accessories have been shown other than extra hands (though I think he will ultimately come with a Satan Saber). What's causing him to cost so much? |

Now why was OOO less expensive? No idea. Maybe because they could reuse the body like 20 times. Then again, Momotaros was also a bit cheaper… |

Seems to me ¥7700 is the base standard, everything above has a number of extras and some come below for whatever reason. |

Gorgeous figure. It really makes me wonder how figures can get better.

Pre-orders open Friday, November 6th in Japan.
A bit more info since there's a lot: First of all, a blog post with lots of pretty pictures but also quite a few new info. http://tamashiinations.blog.jp/archives/7247571.html The most important: This will be the first figure to incorporate "soft" material to help keep the proportion intact as well as reproducing the "biological feeling" of the original suit. It is described as a step in figure development like Wizard's skirt or Kiva's chains. Here's an overview about which parts are soft and how it works with articulation: https://i.imgur.com/FH9pGpn.jpg https://i.imgur.com/UDVATB8.jpg Next, this figure incorporates three different instances of black color. Glossy for the head and shoulders, mat with a rough texture for the chest, and semi-matte for the limbs to invoke a leather-type look. https://i.imgur.com/fqezf4d.jpg Then we have a direct comparison between all three releases of Kamen Rider Black to really drive the point home. https://i.imgur.com/8SS3Sry.jpg Lastly there's a Shadow Moon teaser. Now, the figure in the picture is the 2011 version, and they say they are "undecided" on a Seihou version yet but come on, we all know it’s going to happen. https://i.imgur.com/RMCzIie.jpg And, if you're interested, Tamashii also posted an interview with Masato Hayase, an assistant to Shotaro Ishinomori who began his career when Kamen Rider Black was developed and became a material manager on Kuuga, then was in charge of character design and supervision on Agito. https://tamashii.jp/t_kokkaku/141/ https://i.imgur.com/tAMB2lV.jpg |
While I'm not gonna get the SHF SS KR Black figure, I'm super fucking impressed with the engineering behind it with the incorporation of soft parts like that. Usually that sort of thing is reserved for really, really high-end KR figures from what I've seen, and it's different from the usual "soft" plastic that SHFs use. Wonder if they'll start incorporating this sort of engineering in future SHF releases.

But now we have a Son-Goku figure coming up which is partially seamless as well as Kamen Rider Black who uses soft parts to further achieve suit accuracy. I quite like applying these techniques to certain key areas while leaving others that are perfectly fine as is, like the knees, in the traditional style. It'll be interesting to see where this leads to eventually. |

Didn't know what you were talking about with the Son Goku figure, but I just checked it out and damn, that's incredible. |
