If Power Rangers were to have a gay ranger...
Yes, I know this is a controversial topic, however, I wonder if Power Rangers could have a gay Ranger in the future.
I have no issue with a gay ranger, however, if Power Rangers also has a male Pink Ranger in the future, I would prefer the male Pink Ranger not to be a gay character since it promotes the stereotype that any man who wears pink is gay, which is false (gay men are actually less likely to wear pink than straight men except in adult TV shows and movies). Yes, everyone should know I am obsessed with having a male Pink Ranger, however, I definitely would prefer for him not to be gay. I personally think a gay Ranger would work better as a Green or Black Ranger, since it would give more focus and emphasis to those Ranger colors who normally don't get much focus. What does anyone here think? |
I think it's not going to happen for a very, very, very, very, very, very, VERY long time, status quo and society being what it is. The closest you will ever get is having a homosexual actor on the cast, which we did. Back in 1993.

I don't think this is a topic worth having in PR.
Occasionally, we'll have rangers in a relationship. It plays no part to the story. It adds a needless amount of controversy in a series that is already considered "Too violent" to some. It won't have any relevance or reason beyond "Gay ranger because we wanted one." It's not a topic that should just be mildly skirted over if it should be added, and PR just isn't the kind of show that can handle the weight and responsibility of such a topic. |
While we have seen more homosexual characters be brought into television in recent years, with even some being the focal point of shows such as, it isn't fully something that we can expect to see a whole lot of, let alone in a show targeted towards children.
Because of this it is almost highly doubtful a gay Power Ranger would be in a show, or if there was, it wouldn't be discussed in the show but only by a person involved afterwards, like how J.K. Rowling said a while back that Dumbledore was gay. If one was to make it into the show and was noted in the show as being gay I don't believe it should become something really major to talk about. Being gay isn't really a character trait or personality, it is simply something about them, like having freckles and so on and so forth. So it really shouldn't be made as this big deal within the context of the story. Nor does the color matter of what this character would be. There is also the probably issue of fans. You'll definitely have some that can accept it with no problem and not even care, but there will always be those certain assholes who gaybash the character and those who will get really sensitive if they see somebody not enjoying the character regardless if they don't enjoy the ranger's jokes, dialogue, etc etc. It's simply too slippery a slope in the case of Power Rangers to ever really happen from both what we're use to in children's television and how the fans would react to it. Also this is like the millionth time you have created a discussion about this idea. Please stop rehashing the same topic over and over and over. |
I don't think sexuality is something to explore in power rangers. They are a team working together, they are co workers and should stay that way. Romance in PR has allways been weird (timeforce as exception).
Also why another one of these threads? |
I know its not a good topic. But I have to put my two cents in. Yes! Yes! A gay ranger would be awesome. Black or Green I agree with because those are my colors. But in all actuality we already have a gay ranger IRL. This guy.

A gay character never in PR.

If there was a gay character, it would like be handle the same way Dumbledore, Korra, and Richie from Static was handled: after the fact, in a writer's online statement, with a ranging scale of little evidence to ship-teasingly apparent.
Which in my opinion, only really worked with Korra, because that was the most clear about who she was thinking about the most out of her friends. Really, the only way I'd find it interesting is if they had the balls to actually have Rangers in a relationship during the season like in MMPR, unlike later where even my favorite season Timeforce had Wes and Jen only admit to liking each other in the final episode. If even straight couples are reduced to just hinting to liking each other during a season, somehow a doubt the writers will do anything more than the Alan Scott-treatment for the potential gay Ranger. |
I wish that a person sexuality is not what defined him/her. he can be gay or into weird fetish or anything as long as it move the story forward, not just there for the sake of diversity.

Color you wear does not equal sexual orientation.
Tsukasa Kadoya proved that. Or did he... |
