Japan Restricts Shipments Worldwide
https://support.amiami.com/hc/en-us/...pril-8th-2020-
It looks like the Japanese post has halted all SAL shipments worldwide and restricted shipments for a number of other methods. So if any of you ordered any figures or anything from Japan, you might not be getting them for a while. I included the amiami link because it seemed more relevant for us (since we're geeks and we like toys :lol ) but their post has some other resources you can check as well. edit: Note that this happened at the beginning of the month. I'm posting it now because I just found out and didn't see anything about it on this site. |
Yeah I already had an amiami returned to sender. I placed the order long before April 1st, but it still never made it out of Japan (it was SAL).
Typically, amiami makes you pay for postage again if it was undeliverable (according to their FAQ). That's going to be a real bummer if I have to pay for shipping again... |

I pre-ordered the Kiramager mini-pla in like Feb and tracking just told me today that it was returned to sender. I also have the Leopardon Super Mini-Pla on pre-order, I hope things clear up by then.

I was a good chunk of time into putting together an order off of JUNGLE last night when their site devoured my cart. I was bummed at first, the time I wasted, but now I feel like I dodged a bullet. I'd rather waste the time than the money, you know?
Still, not being able to get months worth of SO-DO releases from AmiAmi is going to feel not super great. Hopefully everyone there stays safe and services can restart without too many negative effects on the various companies. (Gotta wonder what "can't ship internationally" is going to do to places like Mandarake and AmiAmi.) |

DHL seems to be a bit slowed but largely unaffected seeing as they don't piggyback off of commercial flights like Japan Post and most other postal services do. So there are still shipping options, there's just going to be a longer wait time, and likely an increased cost. |
I don't know how many people use it, but Buyee (and from what a friend said Zenmarket as well) is extending their holding process for anything you order by up to sixty days so that way you don't buy something and it just sits before being sent back. They also noted in their update that potentially it could take up to two weeks to load/unload international mail.

I ordered a bunch of things. The saddest would be SHF Zero-One because this store I bought probably has the Asian release version, which explains why they tend to arrive 2 months after initial release.
|
I had a Figuarts Ibuki and Mach coming SAL, and a Baron coming Air Small Packet.
And no updates sadly. |

Does anyone have any idea how this might effect sites that sell imports? Would, say, BBTS put prices up on pre-ordered items?
|
They were restricted since March as far as I know. I still haven't received some of my eBay purchases I made last March 7th.
At early April I tried again and this is the message I received: https://images2.imgbox.com/57/6f/oYnHAiOp_o.jpg https://www.post.japanpost.jp/int/in...401_02_en.html |

Still, in the short-term, I don't think you've got much to worry about. BBTS is probably going to be reluctant to increase advertised prices, especially with easily-cancellable pre-orders already placed by consumers, so it's more likely things'll just be delayed. Long-term, though, yes. All of this stuff is going to start to get more expensive. Shutting down and slowing down, that costs companies money. Manufacturing, shipping, wholesaling, retailing. Everyone's going to be trying to make up lost revenue. Additional costs are going to be added to every step in the process. Probably not a ton, there's still a limit to what a market can bear, but they're going to push right up against that limit. |

So my order from mandarake (not toku but still this is related to the topic) may end up being delayed, it's been in processing at a facility in Hakata since the 13th.
|
Does this effect EMS shipping too?

That's what I thought, which is why I cancelled most of my pre-orders for this month. Of course Wolf has to be in stock now too.... |
EMS & Air Post to the US will be suspended as of 4/24.

Welp, there go all my import preorders for the foreseeable future.

Not to try and find a personal silver lining, but man am I glad I threw together a decent-ish Jungle order last Saturday to ship out EMS. No idea when it'll actually arrive, but at least it'll get here at some point. Super sorry for all of the fans and businesses impacted by this decision, though. I hope everyone stays safe! |
And I had an EMS order that I still had to payoff.
Crap. |
It's ridiculous, there's no danger from this.
|
Shit. There goes my Neo Drivers.

Well, it's not that they're delaying packages or suspending shipments because there's anything wrong with the packages, it's because they need to operate with smaller crews to protect against spreading the virus, and there's less flights going out of the country due to global lockdown orders. Japan Post is restricting shipments because there's less people to load the planes, and less planes to load. They'd rather cut off international shipments until things open back up than keep accepting packages that just pile up in a sorting station.

I have amazing timing. I had a SAL Mandarake order that shipped right before Japan suspended international SAL shipping. It has been returned by now. Then I had an EMS Mandarake order that shipped last week and has just kinda... sat around still in Japan, but now all EMS is suspended. That'll likely get returned. And then I put in for another order right before finding out about the EMS freeze. Hope they just straight up cancel that one...

It's a good thing I was committed to cutting back this year, I suppose... |
Well, time to get some Paypal refunds IMMEDIATELY. I can always find Figures cheaper than the risk of Pre-Ordering.
|
I suppose I'm really lucky Japan Post is still shipping to Australia.
|
Any of you guys ever hear of Anime Drama Global? They release Rider and Ranger shows on DVD plus some others.

I think they're decent quality bootlegs, but still bootlegs. |
So a quick update but Amiami emailed me for payment on some April preorders and I noticed they changed my shipping choice from EMS to DHL, which I believe isn't affected by the JP Post suspension?
In this case the DHL option was cheaper than EMS, but I'm wondering if that's gonna be default for any international locations that are affected by this. In which case, shipping could get expensive depending on what you ordered. |

It is atypical that DHL or any other international courier service will be cheaper than post, but it happens. A thing to note is that courier rates fluctuate on a variety of factors (including demand), so prices may indeed increase. |
Hong Kong has stopped shipping to the US as well....so much for my back-up plan
|
I'm hoping things clear up enough in time for the Leopardon SMP release.

So I guess one more month until they decide to resume their services? |
