Zyuohger Episode 5- "Champion Of The Jungle!" Discussion
The Zyuman are delighted to meet a friend from their homeworld, but when Deathgalien commander Azard arrives on Earth the Blood Game becomes more dangerous than ever.
As always you can view this episode via live stream on Saturday by heading over to Taima TV. They play other miscellaneous programs up until the live broadcast starts. Live Streams of the Superhero Time block start at 6:30 PM Eastern Standard Time on Saturdays. |
Larry the Latino Gorilla Zyuman (HOLA SENORITAS) is the new best character in Super Sentai history. (not really) (Over-Time's subs are out, by the way) (parentheses)
I really liked this episode, but I'm a little alarmed that they introduced a new super-powered mode for Red in episode FIVE. Five episodes and we're getting a second transform! I recently watched the first SWAT Mode episodes of Dekaranger, and those were around episode THIRTY-FIVE! Now this is okay as long as they don't go way overboard. If each Zyuohger can access two or three sets of animal powers and the number of mecha stays under twenty, then I won't raise a fuss. But if Red gets like five forms and there are twenty-six cube mecha then what the fuck. Goddamn. But more surprising than Red Gorilla is probably the death of Azald, who I assumed would be a lieutenant character sticking around for most of the series. No idea where they're going with that. The Dethgaliens just got a little more interesting. ...and I nominate that Amu gets a super-jumping rabbit form because that would be totally dope. |
See, this is how it’s done! Use the Mecha against a force where it’s absolutely needed, save yourself the whole “Enemy grows bigger, summon the Mecha!”-shtick. Okay, the MOTW isn’t destroyed (Him being stuck in the ground made for a good laugh though) and we will get that fight next week, but still.
I enjoyed this episode a lot! The characters where a lot of fun, Larri made for an interesting story, and while ZyuohGorilla looks hilariously cheesy with the foam muscles the fight was cool to watch. But Azald will be back no doubt, Leaders don’t go down that easily. Next week we get a continuation of Larri’s story as he grows older while ZyuohRed uses his powers and that’s interesting too. Makes you wonder if the bird person that gave Yamato the champions symbol did the same thing or if he found a way to infuse the symbol with his power without growing old. Anyways, that’s the first episode which I can rate "Excellent" without a doubt, very well done. I hope we get a lot more episodes like this, because this is the first airing Sentai-show (since I started watching Toku) which entertains me enough to ignore the sometimes rather annoying Sentai-tropes. Which makes me think that the 6th Ranger probably isn't a Zyuohman, unless he's some freakish Chimera-kinda thing. |
What was not to love in this episode?
Larry the Gorilla who seems like an utterly cool guy. Here's to hoping that he would become the sixth Zyuoger. Kaixabird can go scrub it. The large jawed monster wasn't even important enough to be the focus of the episode? Fine by me. I couldn't take him seriously enough. Now the actual guy who blew up, that almost came out of left field for me. Eh, I don't actually mind that much though. |
That was a fun episode. A bit surprised to see one of the generals taken out already, but it was a pretty awesome fight first. Not sure how I feel about Yamato's gorilla form, though - the helmet flip is cool, but those big fake muscles just look like, well, big fake muscles. It reminds me of those buffed-out Halloween costumes they make for kids and I'm having a really hard time taking it seriously.

And like the other Zyumen, Larri's name comes from his animal motif (Pantera leo, Selachimorpha, Elephant tusks, Amur tiger) with Larri being a corruption of gorilla that you only notice when Pig Latining/Rinrinji-ing those last two syllables with a Japanese accent (Gorilla, GO-RI-RA, RI-RA, RA-RI, Larri).

A pretty fun episode. I enjoyed Larri. Pretty chill and cool. I also enjoyed that they brought up their hostilities with Yamato when he first entered their world, so it's not too surprising that humans would act the same.
I'm concerned for Larri after the episode preview, so I'm pumped for next week. Anyway, the big shocker is the death of Azald, the generic general character. It really did come out of nowhere, since I expected him to run away vowing revenge as they are apt to do. However, Tusk noting "Cubes" is giving me a weird thought that he's gonna be Zyuoh TheWorld :lol (In reality, the "No need for a continue" line is giving vibes that he can resurrect himself). Fun episode, glad they got the mech fight out of the way early so we don't have to shove in both the Gorilla power and the mecha in the same episode. |
Well Cube Munky doesn't drop until April so if we see Munkytron debut on the 19th, and an extra week to show it off again, the toy will get released April 2nd, the first weekend of April just like Elephant and Tiger did for they 1st week of March.

Wow! Zyuoh Gorilla is like Brock Lesnar and he took Azald to Suplex City! Azald is now a resident of Suplex City
My only problem of Zyuohger is Deathgaliens. They have no Personal Connection to Zyuohger! Most Sentai always have a villain who have a personal connection They don't serve important. They are here so Zyuohger would have someone to fight against I rather wanted ZTW curb-stomp all Zyuohger than Deathgalien Heck! I even wanted Bird Man to be final boss than Ginis! Ginis doesn't impress me! He is another villain cliche. He doesn't have an unique personality! Bird Man is more interesting than Ginis! I love the comedy but I am disappointed with villains that have nothing to do with Zyuohger Deathgaliens are like Marvel Movie Villain Problems I want a villain who actually have a personal connection but Deathgalien don't really know much about Zyuohger |
So is Larry spanish or english speaking? They seemed a bit confused about what they were going for. It was mostly spanish, but those random "You!"s kinda threw me off.
Really good episode though, even if Zyuoh Gorilla looks way too dumb. |
