First Images of Zi-O Rider Kicks Figures (RKF) Toyline
3 Attachment(s)
The entire first round of releases includes:
- Grease - Build (Rabbit/Tank) - Cross-Z - Evol (Cobra) - Cross-Z Build Form (Rabbit/Dragon) These really do like great alternatives to S.H. Figuarts for anyone on a budget. |
Sorry I must be blind but where is Zi-O like the name of this thread mentioned?

Heh! We'll probably get Kiva.
|
Are we sure this is the Zi-O toyline, and not an upper-end budget line akin to Dragon Stars?
|
Looks like some really good figures for that price! Definitelt gonna keep an eye on that line, hope they do a Kamen Rider Rogue as well

I think calling it a first "wave" is kinda mistaken, though, since the LR figures' releases are pretty staggered. Most of the first figures actually released for RKF will actually be for Zi-O in the RA line. These are just the first revealed because they're safe from spoilers. |
I'm gonna laugh if Kiva still doesn't get released in this line.
|
I like them. Well-detailed, well painted.
|
Glad they're doing Grease because I didn't preorder the Figuart.
|
Really cool! I really want other Rider from past series like Cronus, Xtremer, Gold Drive, White Wizard, Abyss, and other Riders will be released too.
|
They look really nice. Honestly if they do a decent amount of Build stuff I'll probably dip in since I like the designs but have yet to see the show. Grease especially is one I'd like to have.
|
Not bad. I kinda like that they're re-doing the Build figures with head articulation this time, lol. If Cross-Z ends up being a decent price then that should be a lovely alternative over his Figuarts being an exclusive. I could totally see Figuarts skipping over Rabbit/Dragon too, so it's nice that it's there.

I'm looking forward to these. I love Figuarts but their decisions for what's exclusive and not is baffling. Main riders should not be exclusive, secondary or tertiary be damned. Even if it's not perfect, I want a Cross-Z and Grease to go with Build.
|
they look good, are they SHF size?

That's pretty much the Grease figure I've wanted all along; neither the BCR nor SHF quite did it for me.
It's a shame it's unlikely to be joined by a Cross-Z Charge, as I know I'm one of the few who enjoys the design of BOTH Jelly Bros... |
Seems interesting Build is so strong focused early on. Though it fits since that's the series they'll be coming off of, but it's starting to feel a little bit like Pandora's box might play into Zi-O some. Builds world is such an isolated one in the timeline too.
Could be because it's the most recent series coming right off of the hype of it. But it is interesting to think about how several shows are timeline connected, but instead it's the 'isolated world' that gets the strongest focus early on. That seems like a ripe story device to use, especially since we know the pandora box/wall generated by it has pockets that can cross parallel worlds. If you're trying to stop something from becoming a timeline's demon king, taking them to a parallel reality where they can't impact the timeline does make sense. Potentially gives more credence to the idea that future Zi-O may not be the same as present day Zi-O entirely. Either a secret belt wearer posing as them or some kind of Evolto like possession or other machination. Figures do look great though, and it's nice to see some that can move their heads again. |
So kind of like Marvel Legends/Black Series for Kamen Rider? Could be a good way to get the more obscure forms that Figuarts never got to. Maybe some villains, too.

I like that prototype looking pic of Build with the robes. ..and I think I need that Grease and Rabbit-Tank combo for my desk. |
If the paint on Evol is comprehensive, I'm up for that.
Also, can I dream of Super Sentai figures in this format? |
I am getting back into collecting, but still trying to figure out what I want to go after. Someone brought up Marvel Legends, so I have a question as how they relate to Bandai's recent offerings.
So I haven't bought a new Bandai toy since SHF Abyss, but are still mostly the same? I ask since I was able to get some recent Marvel Legends (Warlock wave) super cheap, but I hate them. It may be my imagination, but the limbs and joints seem soft. It just feels mushy whenever do anything with them. My question really is would I have similar feelings towards Bandai's recent offerings (BCR and SHF)? Well depending on answers I get, I am really looking forwards to that Cross-Z. Now while a sister Sentai line would be awesome, I would die if they came out with a Metal Heroes one. Also I am surprised Kamen Rider hasn't done anything with the B Fighters. |
At first, I couldn't figure out the appeal of these, but then I realized that they're freed from the gimmicks of their individual toylines. Several recent gimmicks (Gamer armor in Ex-Aid, Ghost's hoodies, and Build's entire gimmick) had a significant negative impact on articulation. These figures appear to be free of that. On the other hand, they also follow the "it only looks good from the front" design aesthetic re: paint that I guess might be a leftover from Sofubi? Also, the thing about weapons and Drivers having minimal or no paint. The molding on the hands looks identical (with cheaper pastic) to the Figuarts, except it looks like this Build comes with holding-things hands the SHF release didn't have. The similarity is clearest on the Cross-Z fists. Wouldn't be surprised if these were based on the same digital models (in terms of proportion) as the SHFs.
These are kind of a compromise between the existing retail figures, SHF, and the candy toys. The candy toys at least strive to make the rear of the figures look good using stickers. I suspect the plastic quality will be the same as the retail lines, meaning more solid than recent Marvel Legends. On the other hand, recent Marvel Legends figures are significantly more thoroughly-painted than these. More than anything, it seems like this line is attempting to put together an inexpensive way for people to put together a collection of Heisei Rider figures that are compatible with one another. I also suspect that the Rider Kicks line won't end when Zio does, given that they're at least floating doing secondary and tertiary Riders, villains, and form changes. Come to think of it, this lineup is probably a statement of intent, although whether they'll continue with the secondaries, villains, etc. will probably depend heavily on how this first wave sells. I've got no idea. The basic retail figure for Ex-Aid was roughly equivalent to this, albeit not with the swappable hands. Well, and that release was more expensive, bundled with the Level 1 form. *thinky* |

I think that's the biggest appeal to these. I wouldn't put a $120. SHF Grease on my desk where something could happen to it,..I will put a $15 Grease on my desk though. Win/Win ( HLJ already has listings for them. ) |
I'll be interested in what all they come with. I'm a fan of the gimmick figures, but for some more articulation and some accessory options, I'll definitely give a few a look. Cross-Z build form has my interests peaked at the very least
|
A £10 Cross-Z? You've interested me, Bandai. Keep going with this line, maybe give me some stupid obscure figures I didn't know I needed, and I'll give you more money.
|
I'd bet on Zi-O introducing some exclusive forms or characters for older series and then those forms being released through RKF. Juuuust a thought.
Heck, if this DOES end up being something like Transformers Generations/Power Rangers Legacy etc. and ends up being just a general collector's line that goes on beyond one show, I could see this being where new forms and characters from the likes of Returns movies are released. I can't wait for Gaim Gaiden 3 you guys |

I'm kind of excited about this line and interested in seeing where it goes.
|
I would hope it becomes like a regular thing that extends beyond just Zi-O. There's a lot of Riders and forms that would be neat to have cheaper figures of, but I have a hard time believing they'd release even the more basic stuff within Zi-O's lifespan since that might overwhelm consumers, and I'd hate for them to just not do some things.
|
it would be nice to see the line stick around for a while for sure. It would be nice to have something in between the simple vinyl figures and the SHF figures.
Get the SHF figures for the characters you really like and want the best version of, but then you can get the RKF figures to plug the holes in your collection for the figures you maybe don't want to pay that much for, or for the series where maybe you bought the SHF main Rider but then get the RKF for the secondary Riders. for example Ryuki, I have no Ryuki figures in my collection. If the RKF figures of Ryuki came out I'd get at least 3-4 of them. Right now I only get the SHF's of favorite characters and Riders, but for figures that are less than $20. I'd get a lot more of them. Like I bought Build and Grease. But I'd get Rogue, Blood Stalk, Evolt, and Dragon in the RKF format. ..so...pretty excited to see where this line goes. I hope it becomes a regular line and not a show specific one. |
Saw a Zi-o review by some japanese guy. When he was scaled with the Build bottle change Genius build, Build was a head taller and he was like the size of a figuart. So, guess the RKF line is small compared to shf so they won't be a solid alternative. But they should be the same height as a standard figma.
|
It's been said that the RKF figures for the legend riders are 14cm, whereas the RKF figures for all of Zi-O riders and armors are 13cm.
