Another fun episode! It definitely was an over-the-top and faithful tribute to Dan KurotOOO and had some hilarious moments. Tetsuya Iwanaga clearly loves the role and Toei knows we do too. The meme lord himself got a lot of screentime, and it's definitely a cool concept to have a previous legend be the Another Rider. We also get a deviation from the normal pattern, with Geiz returning to 2016 before Tsukuyomi realizes that 2010 is the actual year of the Another Rider's birth. This is also the first time we see the meddling of the Time Jacker's affect the future in a significant way.
Genm Armour was cool, definitely a lot better without Ex-Aid's giant hammer arms. Another OOO actually looks great too, and I loved that they brought the Yummies back, complete with the coin explosion effect. Gotta wonder where the Taka Candroid watch came from but it looks like we may get answers next episode. It was also nice to see Hina again (damsel in distress though she may be) and a brief appearance of Eiji Hino! Though this was more a Dan tribute (by extension, another Ex-Aid episode), it does seem we'll be getting more into OOO territory in the second half with Eiji's full cameo, the OOO Armour making it's debut as well as its use with the Time Majin and the Tajador RideWatch. One thing I did not like about this episode was the return of cheap drama. I get Sougo is only pretending to be Kuroto's lackey for some big plan, but his bad communication resulting in an unneeded fight between him and Geiz (in which the latter actually got hurt!) was the kind of forced drama I hoped was left behind in early Heisei. Oh well. To finish off, I have to comment on the quality of filmmaking this episode around. Some really creative shots and choreography. Geiz kicking Sougo's Jikuu Driver to initiate the henshin and him punching Build Armour to knock it onto Zi-O were really creative moments. 8.5 is gold, as expected. It's basically a forced toy commercial that explains why Genm and OOO have a tribute together. It's clearly not meant to be taken seriously and they use takes where So Okuno clearly messes up his lines. And the last part is essentially a blooper reel. These .5 episodes are truly a treat. |
So 9 episodes in and I finallt understand how Legend Rider cameos work. They would usually appear very briefly the first part, and full on guest on the second.
Also sonewhat off topic, I know none of you watches TV-N subs, but if you follow them it indirectly helps you lower your expectations for these shows because in the forum they would always hate on it. Kinda makes you wonder why bother subbing it when they would always hate on it. |

Everyone involved with TV-nihon needs to die in a fire, at least genm corp does a decent job when it comes to subbing but a lot of the online streaming sites use TV-Nihons filth for some ungodly reason when anyone with half a brain would avoid it like the bubonic plague.
I still haven't found a decent streaming site. Kissasian is scummy and Jatoku occasionally uses nihon so I don't trust them at all. |

the only way to stop it from happening is geiz has to learn to guide him into doing good things as a rider and support him. right now it's more like geiz is doing more damage than it already is because he cant control his anger and hatred, it's just creating more dispear on sougo |

It also doesn't help TVN releases subs slower then Overtime IIRC, despite literally just typing over what they hear. |

Just watched the subs. Definitely a fun episode. It's always good to see God Dan Kuro.... sorry I mean Dan KuroKing, again. I do like how they make a connection for it to be a pseudo-Ex-Aid tribute while kick starting the OOO tribute. Time Jackers need Another Rider with the "desire" to be a king or close to it, Kuroto always had the ambition to be greater than everybody (game master, God, etc.) so he was one of the few to fit that qualification. And his greediness in wanting to control/own everything fit perfectly to one of OOO's desire/greed themes. The references to OOO were good (was i the only one who saw Dr. Maki's doll when they went back to 2016?) and Eiji and Hina are back (good to see them again as well).
The Sougo/Geiz drama does come off as cheap in this episode. Considering we know that Sougo is faking it in order to gain/learn from Kuroto, he could've communicated this better to Geiz and Tsukuyomi. It wasn't particularly necessary to "force" this drama. You could argue this was to teach Geiz a lesson to be more trusting of Sougo but he's been particularly head strong for 8 episodes to not be too trusting or friendly with Sougo, plus the aforementioned communication problem. Although I imagine that Geiz, as always, will just be annoyed, berate Sougo, and then help him in the final fight in some capacity later on. Cos the King of 'being butthurt that your friend trampled on your friendship to fool the antagonists' belongs to Diend in Super Hero Taisen. |
For some reason, I get the feeling Geiz is in on it. Because Sougo absolutely wiped the floor with him pretty effortlessly. I mean it wasn't even close. And up until now, everything in the show has suggested that they are at least equal combatants, with Geiz maybe having a slight edge if anything because he's more experienced. Plus Zi-O uses Build Armor, and Geiz just keeps trying to attack him in base form? That whole fight felt off to me.

Another little touch here is that Eiji finally went into government service like his old man. His father was a government official in the original series.

I liked this episode! I still have the issue that despite being all about returning Riders and Legends. Both Geiz and Sougo have hardly any knowledge of past Riders, I feel the connection between Geiz and Ex-Aid should've been made more easily but eh.
Seeing Kuroto again was obviously fun! I'm fully expecting to see this guy representing Ex-Aid for the coming years. I gotta ask though who the hell did he kill in 2016? I initially thought it was his dad but that doll at the desk made it seem like it was Maki from OOOs |

Damn I miss Hina so much. She barely aged too.

Who was the director this episode? Sougo's henshin using Geiz's kick was so badass...
|
The .5 episodes are becoming those Taisen net movies and YouTube skits. Woz went from cool to annoying worshiping lackey that would praise anything stupid that comes out of ZiO. Dan like narutaki is just a meme and gag. I have a feeling the ooo alumni are just there for the sake of being there without much to add to like beast. I still can't take him as that competent of a fighter to defeat Geiz and every motw fairly easily even if he's confident.
|
I'm holding off judgement of this until I see 10; the full extent of Sougo's plan is crucial enough to the plot. I will say that any poor communication is on his head though - they literally traveled back in time to stop him, Geiz with murderous intent, and have dialed it back a lot from there so it's pretty natural if they don't trust him.
Gemn armour is kind of cool and I guess is fine seeing as it would have been way easier to make than any other non-main armour. Does kind of add to the complete randomness of non-main Rider watches though. Also, I feel like the fact that Gemn Armour and Another OOO look nothing like each other maybe should have clued them in a little earlier. While they're a bit repetitive at points, I do like the .5 episodes. Whoever's writing them is super self aware. For those who haven't seen it, this one goes in hard on the toy commercial aspect. Like, Sougo literally says this must be the OOO episode because the OOO watch is out this week and Woz explains how the Gemn watch is a promotion item. |
Why is this another Ex-Aid episode? Why is Dan, an antagonist Rider, getting any sort of Ride Armor or even spot light time?
God, I hate Ex-Aid so much. The parts without Ex-Aid influence or Dan was a great episode though. It was awesome seeing Geiz's ass totally kicked by Zi-O who shrugged everything off like it was nothing. |
I'm sure there's some kind of larger plan in action here, but I still can't help like feeling that Sougo just took a couple giant steps backwards as a character. I tend to hate it any time the whole "I'm going to be a king!" bullshit comes up and this episode is drenched in it.
That said, I love the use of Kuroto here (and not just because I love any use of Kuroto anywhere). This is a great evolution of the Another Rider idea and Kuroto is a perfect candidate for someone who would want to use that power for conquest (and it's so fitting that they're tying OOO, the show where the monsters were all based on greed, into all this). I hope we see more of this as Zi-O goes on. There are definitely more Rider villains who could return this way. The .5 episode was really good this week, too. The toy commercial part started to annoy me, but they pivoted on it really well. And again, Kuroto absolutely stole the spotlight. |
Hey everyone, guess what time it is!
https://i.imgur.com/ockH5wF.jpg Time for me to once again take the unpopular stance that Genm is really overplayed at this point. Don't get me wrong, obviously Tetsuya Iwanaga is the man (you need only see him teasing Sougo's actor at the end of the .5 episode for proof of that), and it's not like he's a bad character, but whenever they have him doing nothing more than running around making silly faces I find it wears thin fast. Whether he's plain ol' Dan, Shin-chan, or even KurotOOO's, I can only watch this guy make the same self-aggrandizing speeches so many times before it gets old. So, needless to say, the main draw of this entire episode failed to pull me in. Making matters even worse is that the nature of the cliffhanger means I don't have anything to say about the plot until two weeks from now, when I can verify whether or not Sougo is being an idiot. Still, for how odd this whole episode felt to me, it was plenty enjoyable, and there are some clever bits in here that stood out, like Geiz kicking Sougo's driver, and the date on Another OOO's back. |
About the Geiz/Z-io fighting and drama and stuff, to me, having just rewatched OOO, it reminded me of the OOO vs Ankh thing where toward the end Ankh leaves them to go join up with the bad guys only to end up on the good side after all. Feels to me like they are taking a cue from that.

These tribute episodes are pretty bad imho. The only two actors that I liked so far are Riho Takada from OOOs and Kento Handa from Faiz. Shu Watanabe might be good in the next episode. I also wish that they brought back Yuria Haga from Faiz and Kiva. She looks hot in Girl's Blood. ;)

Yeah, I've gotta say Sougo is in an interesting place for me.
It's like he's so deep into idiot hero territory that he's literally incapable of seeing how much his actions raise tons of red flags for his allies. And him aligning himself, albeit temporarily, with Dan Kuroto of all people is simultaneously hilarious and frightening. EDIT: Also, a fun little detail I noticed, and I'm not sure if it's been brought up. But the hawk on Another OOO seems to have been replaced by the Shocker logo |
I thought "maou" means demon king? Sougo keeps saying he wants to be a good "maou", is there such thing as "good demon king"?

Yeah, something that's been very consistent about Sougo is that he's extremely unfettered. I assume that's the secret to how he could end up being evil in the future. He just kind of walks into things without giving them too much thought or properly considering the consequences.
Obviously we've seen him come up with plans and the like, but I don't think there's any other Rider protagonist that's quite as impulsive as he is. |
Take note of how little effort he used in order to beat Geiz as well, it was pretty clear that he was flat out toying with him, considering he just gained his powers unlike Geiz as well.
It would be quite fun if this ended up actually being the rider show where the main villain is just the main character, and someone else ends up having to be the hero in the long run, saying how he will become a "kind" overlord is also honestly a bit unsettling overall. But yeah I doubt it, it is not impossible, we do have precedent for the main rider not ending up being the one up against the final boss. |

Really liked the episode. Interesting how Sougo has grown too, and how predictable he's seen Geiz is, to the point of using him to get in good with Dan. That henshin was glorious too. This show is really getting some nice little twists in it.
Borderline is starting to feel like Woz is getting played too with how Sougo is picking up on their traits. Also really liked the emphasis on OOOs and then Kurot-O and how that seems to be symbolically pushed onto zi-O. The 9.5 was awesome. Loved that "toy company" remarks. And the extra quick praise to Kiva was very xD. Lot of back patting buffered in these episode and the 9.5 but in a fun way. Especially extra funny with the puppy remarks at the end with the playful Woof Woof. This show is really quickly becoming one of my favorites, but damn there's a lot of backstage self-wankery going on, but done in really fun ways that feels really cathartic too. Looks like we're starting to see the rise of Oma Zi-O, but I think there's still more we're not seeing. Sougo still has strong empathy and wants to help and talk things out. Only fighting back when pushed. So I think there's some stronger stuff coming up that'll push the Oma Zi-O elements further, or how that diverts from the current timeline. This episode seems to really highlight that Sougo is playing his own chess match while the rest are busy playing other games and jumping to assumptions/conclusions. Quote:
