Saban Brands and Nickelodeon - Together We Are More till at least 2021
Deal renewed till 2021. Power Rangers survives for 2 more seasons.

And the bickering has already broke out on Twitter lol. It was pretty obvious it wasn't going anywhere.

Not really proud of this decision, but I shouldn't be surprised.

unless they are major changes in 2021 like saban selling the franchise and bandai gives the toy rights to another company, it's could the last season of pr. i dont see how it survives after 2021. |
Not surprised. I'm so used to Nick's scheduling now though that it's hardly a bother. I'll care about the show going away for months on end when it's actually good again.

Disliking them for putting minimum effort for maximum profit is another thing entirely though Quote:

Not a fan of this decision, but also not surprised. Honestly, who else would want Power Rangers?
|
Really the only other place for them to go would be onto a streaming like Netflix or Hulu, and I imagine Saban and Bandai might be conservative enough they'd think it's a risk compared to being on Nick.
|
Is anyone surprise by this at all? It has been on Nick since 2011 and it seems like the shows do pretty well. I see kids buy the toys when I go to Target and Wal-Mart. The series still has a audience that are kids. I never care if PR was on Nick. As long if kids are liking the show, it's not going anywhere.

I mean. This doesn't matter for me, idk if Ninja Steel or Dino Charge even aired. I still see a single Vrak figure and Legendary Mastodon 2017 Zord as the only toys here so I guess it's just a dead brand for the Netherlands

And if you want to talk about the show, I'd say in terms of effects and most likely budget, its at least on par with the Sentai stuff. The writing might not be the best, but I think that Dino Charge and Ninja Steel found a decent niche by going basically full action-comedy. I do feel like Nick drags the show down, but there's probably some reason why they're keeping it there. |
I think Nickelodeon may be hinting at something here...

I don't mind the series sticking around a little longer on Nick. Just stop diluting the show with sure misfire slapsticks and get a little serious.

People really want Disney to get the rights to PR despite them never really wanting it for the first place. Funny how times have changed.

Remember, before Saban stepped in the franchise was done. Bandai was planning to keep it going as a toyline only as a desperate attempt to save their cashcow. Quote:

The unreleased 90's Fantastic Four film was typically seen as one of the worst hero flicks of all time. After the 3 other FF films that followed, people have looked back at it with a softer light. People didn't want PR in Disney's hands because Disney didn't even want it, and it showed, while in comparison, when Nick got it, they advertised the hell out of it, showing that they care about the property. Turns out, with Disney's more lax interest in the property, they got to put out...Passable seasons, while Nick's strangle hold approach means each season is kind of crap. PR just can't catch a break :lol |

So what's this about rumored Nickelodeon mandates? That's the first I've heard of that.

I think Disney owning Star Wars and Marvel made fans want Disney to buy back PR. To me, it feels like "I want all of my Toys in the same Toy Box!". If Disney did get the rights back to PR, I doubt they will care much about it. They would put on another shitty time slot like they did before and barely market it. |

It all depends. Some probably hope that if Disney has PR again they would put them in Marvel or something, essentially Marvel handling it.
To be fair I don't fully want Disney having PR (it was the primary reason that made me dislike Disney in the first place), but it's because the recent seasons are not that good that it makes the Disney seasons seem like a masterpiece because at least they're trying their own things there, unlike here where every season has to be like MMPR. Basically, we just want a company that's willing to take PR and do good with it. Much as I despise Saban, at least PR is more branched out (comics, etc), but yes the show's quality declined faster due to him too. |
Sometimes I forget I'm the only person who actually likes Tokusatsu in general being goofy and fun. That's the reason why I hate Amazonz and stuff like Kiba, and why I just prefer Sentai to Kamen Rider. Its goofy and fun, which is something I need a lot of the times.
Y'all go on saying how much you want Power Rangers to be serious and then don't bother watching the episodes, I'll stay here and enjoy not-Bulk and not-Skull. |

But then, farts are what kids into these days so part of me can't really blame Power Rangers for going in that direction. Ninja Steel just feels like its targeting a much more specific audience than Samurai through Dino Charge did. Quote:
I'm surprised to hear that was the case given how huge it was in Japan at one point, but I really can't see the same happening for something with a 25 year history which gives a massive sales boost to Bandai's worldwide profits. |

So until then we will go through skipped Sentai again...
I hope when the partnership ends and some other network picks it up they drop the 20 episode per year and the not so Super 2nd season. Give us 40 episodes a year like how it used to be and enough with the stupid hiatus that kills the momentum every time it happens. And while you're at it bring new writers who treat their audience and fans like intelligent human beings and not toddlers who can't say their names yet. Drop the corny moral lessons and the fart jokes and actually develop your characters in a way we get to care about them and not solely a toy commercial. |

Superhero media ought to have some larger meaning and value beyond mere escapist entertainment. What's the point, otherwise? You can have comedy, but most of what Toei considers comedic in Sentai and Rider now is stupid and annoying rather than funny. Quote:

Based on what I’ve read here and elsewhere (and on what little of modern Power Rangers I’ve seen), I think the problem is more to do with the writing and acting rather than Nickelodeon’s “twenty episodes per season” rule and scheduling.
Nickelodeon obviously isn’t helpful, but―as others have said―where else could Power Rangers go? Would moving to an online streaming service help the series financial-wise? Sure, Netflix might permit more creative freedom, but would it succeed in toy sales? Quote:

So three seasons and not four? So one Super Season and not two after this year's Super Season. Does that mean no more Super Seasons or what?

In all likelihood...
Saban Brands made a decision to license out the toy line to another company. Bandai America runs through April 2019 and thus Saban Brands needs a guaranteed home for the product this new toy company will be making. So a 3 year deal with Nickelodeon is done primarily to bridge the year gap we're about to run in to during summer 2019 until Fall 2019 when this new toy company will have product hit the shelves. Then, for 2 years, they get to do their run on Power Rangers. |
