SDCC Lightning Collection MMPR Red Ranger & Zeo Gold Ranger 2-Pack Revealed
2 Attachment(s)
Via SDCC Blog!
"After a very, very long wait — CNET has the details on Hasbro’s next San Diego Comic-Con exclusive, The Power Rangers Lightning Collection. This two-pack features 6″ versions of Jason (as both the original Red Ranger from 1993 and the Gold Ranger from 1996’s Power Rangers Zeo). They feature swappable heads for both helmet and non-helmet looks, and come equipped with the Power Axe, Power Bow, Power Blades, Power Lance, and Power Sword (which can also join together to create a Power Blaster). The Red Ranger also comes with a shield. It will retail for $50, and will be available on the Hasbro Pulse website in limited quantities after the show." |
I want this so damn badly, mainly for Zeo Gold, but the MMPR red is looking solid, and I love that he includes the combined blaster!
I definitely hope I can snag a set! |
That's incredible for only $50. Absolutely gonna try and get it off Pulse. Hoping they don't fuck up and forget to make an order limit like they did with the Star Wars Celebration exclusives
|
That is a fantastic exclusive and a really good price for it too.
Really only want Zeo Gold though.. wonder what differences there would be with a retail one down the line. Probably a different civilian head? |

It's not just a solid piece; it has actual functional combining?! o: |
I love how this is a bit of shade throwing at Bandai regarding the weapons.
|
Some issues with the sculpt but those accessories are amazing.
|
Question when have power daggers ever been called power blades
|
Lightning Collection Gold definitely seems to be stronger than before.
|
My only concern here is that in comparison to the original wave, they might be throwing out all their big popular characters right out the gate. Zeo Gold, MMPR stuff... it means future waves will have a more varied selection, which I'm looking forward to; but won't be anywhere near as popular without this star power to sustain it and hence could lead to a bad future for the line.
|
Oh, I get it. It's the Jason collection.
|
Damn, they look GREAT! Just wish it wasn't an exclusive though.

In all seriousness, what is going on with the Red Ranger's helmet? Please don't tell me that not even Hasbro can get the shape right. No. It can't be that reason. (Deep breaths) It's probably the poor paint job. |
That actually looks decent for its price range. Can't complain.
|
I’m hoping for a future green/red dragon ranger with soft goods American shields.
That Gold Ranger!! Not only do we have 2 staff variants, but his shields are painted gold w/ black detail. |
Damn, hope this isn't gonna be too much of a hassle to get. Hasbro's usually pretty decent with their exclusives.
And hey, even the blade blaster in holstered and gun mode. Most of the Figuarts outside of Tyrannoranger didn't include that! |

I would rather ask for a Powerful Ranger variant. |

This feels like a serious "F.U." to BoA. Chock full of weapon accessories, more accurate Red Ranger Hemet sculpt (very glossy in pics) a Gold Ranger that is actually gold and not a Wether's original candy color, alt mode additional weapons.
Basically, everything BoA did wrong with the Legacy versions of these. I highly doubt the dragon shield comes off since the bicep cuffs appear to be part of the sculpt but I am cool with this because I am sure they'll release a regular version of Jason (or Rocky if it comes with an alternate head) Just begs to question, what will the store versions have that this doesn't... At least with the Gold Ranger. Alternate Trey head(s)? Also, will the other MMPR figures still come with weapons? I'd like to think so and Billy would certainly have to come with his Power Lance in it's bo staff configuration. All I can say is, way to go Hasbro. Had no idea these were going to be coming. Fingers crossed for a Lord Drakkon figure sooner than later. This is a big "F.U." to BoA bit it's one I stand behind. It's what we should have got the first time around. Now... Just hope I can manage to get my hand on a set. :/ |
Dammit, I was hoping to avoid the comic con rush this year. Does this mean gold ranger won't see a standard release?

Hasbro needs to work on these figures' proportions. Gold in particular looks kinda ridiculous. There's like at least an extra half inch between his armor and belt that shouldn't be there, which makes his abdomen look really elongated. I just keep looking between pictures of the suit and the figure and wondering how they thought that was accurate.
Though eh, not like I have any particular attachment to this guy, probably wouldn't try to get it even if I thought it looked good. I guess mostly hoping this same sort of thing doesn't hit other suits I would want to buy. |
So I suppose we'll be seeing that shield buck again when Hasbro releases a Green Ranger. Kind of hoping it's removable and the eventual Tommy figure will have an alternate "Sad Pillow" version from the Saban footage, too.
|
I feel like I'm the only one who wants the shield to be removable so it can be given to the MMPR Black Ranger :lol

I feel like I'm the only one who wants the shield to be removable so it can be given to E V E R Y O N E

If I can't get my hands on a Zeo Gold, I will literally die.
How likely is it that Zeo Gold will get a store release in the event that we're unable to procure one from Hasbro Pulse? |
One thing I did like from the original Zeo Ranger toy, was the weapon storage. Not screen accurate, but I thought it was cool.

I guess my question is: do Hasbro Comic-Con exclusives for Star Wars, Transformers, Marvel, etc usually get mass releases at some point down the line? If so, then what's the point of them being a Comic-Con exclusive? |
Quote:
Same with Star Wars. The exclusives are usually just brand-new figures with a dozen (mostly irrelevant) accessories and / or special packaging. But said figures just end up at retail later anyways, but in standard packaging with fewer (relevant) accessories. This year they have Episode I figures on special, retro card backs, but the figures themselves will be released in standard Black-series boxes later. I would expect the same here, Zeo Gold will probably be released single packaged at retail, maybe with just one variant of the staff, but still. |

Roughly how long after the SDCC releases do the retail versions usually go on sale? |
Quote:
That can greatly vary. The one I remember, Black Series Thrawn, was out at retail like a few months after the SDCC exclusive release. There's no stone set formula to it, I would however expect news of a single release in the next 6 months or so. The release itself should definitely be within a year after the exclusive comes out. Generally with these exclusives, if they are completely new molds of classic characters, a retail release is almost guaranteed at some point. Wacky color-variants or very niche characters (Lord Draakon or whatever that one was called) might stay exclusive but beloved characters like these are never meant to be exclusive forever. It’s just too easy to sell a unique box-set to collectors and then charge the entire customer base with single releases. |
Am I wrong for thinking these don't look up to the same quality as the wave 1 main release figures?

I hope this isn't hard to get. It's cool and I want it. Or if they announce a regular release Zeo Gold that'd cool as well.
