Kamen Rider Build Episode 48- "To The World Of Love & Peace!" Discussion
Evolto has reached his full strength, and an all-out war breaks out between the Riders and their ultimate enemy. Sento has one last chance to save everyone, if he can tap into the full powers of the Pandora's Box...

The stream was choppy this week. I'll need to watch it again when the RAW comes out

Man, considering Evolt's pretty much guaranteed to die, and Sento and Ryuga are pretty much guaranteed to live given Zi-O, that'll be only a third of the show's Riders surviving. Haven't watched too many other series, so I was wondering, assuming the death's stick and it doesn't go for a Ryuki style ending, when was the last time a Rider series had that much of it's cast dead?

Kind of varies depending on what the story calls for. No show actively sets out to off characters, and it's more on how the story weaves itself overtime for what seems like certain areas call for to create dramatic tension and emotional crescendos or make audiences react. |

That was a pretty wild episode.
Rogue looking up through the smashed helmet was a great camera shot. The moment where Banjou had Evolto up against a tree and then hit him so hard the tree exploded was really cool. Gentoku standing there and casting the shadow of Rogue was really neat too. This show, every single episode has had little moments and camera-work or just...Directorial flair? ..that is really cool. Even the few episode I thought of as filler always had at least one or two interesting moments. I really can't believe it's almost over. It's come so far and at the same time it's gone by so quickly. Excited to see Zi-O start but sad to see Build heading for the door. |

It's really not that uncommon. If you're comparing it to American standards for children's shows, then it's a bit different, but for any place not America, it's not that uncommon at all. UK, Australia, China, Japan, etc. all have different things it considers acceptable or not for kids shows. Really even in America it varies more than people realize when you look at details of shows. Americans tend to get too distracted by aesthetics to really notice details. Take for example how many people keep trying to ship Cheetara from Thundercats to Lion-O (per classic series). That's literally pedophilia if you really think about it. Lion-O is under 13 years old. He's actually younger than Kit and Kat. That's an 80s example. There are more recent examples of really dark material that's considered "kids show fluff" but it's ignored because of various visual reasons. Build and Gaim and others have that same aspect. How silly and outlandish aspects are allows it more freedom to move. Because of that visual aspect and atmosphere. There's more involved in that too from a psychological standpoint in artistic choices etc. But it is a really interesting topic itself about perceptions and how much goes unnoticed because of various factors. |
Gaim had multiple human rider deaths, but they were all bad guys so the impact wasn't there for me like Build. Maybe if Takatora died then that would have been the one good rider. I can't think of any other good rider in Gaim to die. Zack almost died, but he survived his suicide bomb plan against Kaito.
Does Ankh from OOOs count as a death? He's not alive, but they do bring him back for movies then conveniently the coin can't hold together again which seems like a death after he does something heroic. |
Watching the preview makes me wonder if they are going to have a Sentou vs Soichi human fight to the death like Kuuga. While it wouldn't be original, I wouldn't mind seeing a savage beatdown that decided the fate of humanity. I think many people haven't seen Kuuga so it would be cool.

Build has a lot of homage/nods built into it. So the fact Kuuga and OOO had don that makes it more likely really, as a throwback to them. Same as how damaged helmets to see the person in the suit became a thing for many series in Sentai and Rider for a bit. Like Garren's helmet in Blade. Humanizing the struggle in the last battle is a common tactic to create emotional oomph and elevate stakes to the viewer. Removing that distance the armor creates because of how it shields you from seeing the character underneath. |

However, it's much better than Pr. I hope hasbro do better. I see that they're continue the equality trend with hiring two non-white actors to play red and blue. I guess they cant make yellow olaued by an Asian actor nowadays. Also, making yellow non-white will be bad as well since big companies and hollywood movies are now getting hated for typecasting foriegn Asian actors in filler roles to earn some extra dough in foreign box offices. It's a bad and bad for both if we are talking about transformers. |

I doubt they can pull off a good punching fight like Kuuga. Now, I rather Ryuga is Evolt for the finale since he's flying off. I guess Evolt survived and it would make more sense if he possess him to fight Sentou. The fight can help Ryuga reawaken to his senses and purge Evolt out probably with the rabbit dragon form. It would be a nice call back to how Sento and Ryuga used to comically fight each other. |

Where's Wizard when you need him? He could have easily kicked Evolt into the space vagina with little effort. The kick that sent Phoenix into the sun was much farther.

Me, after this episode ended:
https://i.gifer.com/B3nm.gif That final fight was intense as heck and had lots of artistic little flourishes too. I hope that person speculating that the next episode is going to do a Kuuga throwback and just have Sento and the cafe owner beating the shit out of each other in human form is right, that is one reference I would love to see in this show. At this point though, the one question I have in my mind is how many of the characters that got slaughtered are going to get revived? Everyone? Just Banjou? Nobody? Okay probably not nobody, but still, I want to prepare myself for the worst case scenario! |
You know, watching this episode reminded me of something I'd sort of forgotten about.
Build is f***ing awesome. I'm seriously impressed right now. This was great. Rogue went out like a champ, Cross-Z is so awesome he's now flying off into space like Superman or some s*** (who's the real "supporting character", huh Sento?). I guess I might be mildly upset about them hammering in the "heroism makes Riders stronger" thing so hard... if it wasn't such a brilliant concept in the first to place to work something thematic like that into a major plot point throughout the series. This show rose up from humble beginnings as a straightforward "back to basics" Kamen Rider into something so completely insane it makes Ex-Aid look quaint, but when it's firing on all cylinders like this, Build is the best kind of crazy there is. Crazy good. Can't wait to see how it all wraps up. |
I hate it that Sawa doesn't do anything but crying in this episode. Misora runs like a bad ass to help Sento build (heh) the reformatted Pandora Box. I was hoping Sawa would run to Gento's side and say something like "You're a great man after all, Gentoku" and that Gentoku's go away smiling after that.

Everyone has already said how good this episode is but I want to bring up the part where the citizens are cheering on the Kamen Riders. This seems like the result of the events from the movie so watching just the series itself, it does come off as a little unearned.
|
I saw that people cheering on Kamen Rider as homage to many many episodes of Ultraman universe
|
Damn, that was a good episode. I almost wish I'd waited to watch it until 49 was out because I cannot wait to see how this all ends. I'm really enjoying these final episodes a lot.

Beardo knew he had a part to play like Kazumi and the bottle and giving it to Misora before he died so his part was to buy time while Sento and Banjou were unable to fight in their rider forms. He was smart enough to know that damaging the belt would soften up Evolt which is a homage to Kuuga. Beardo also went out knowing that he had the respect of Kazumi. |
Looking at ep 49 preview, it seems like Sento will use RabbitDragon form. If Evolt ends up being destroyed by this form, we might get another "Tajador vs Putotyra vs Super Tatoba" war
|
I got to say I loved Gentoku's final battle and the shadow reflecting on one of the columns was a nice touch.
Also Ryuga flying up to the rift in space with Evolt reminded me when Shiryu flew up into space with Shura in Saint Seiya. https://i.imgur.com/2qlsjCU.jpg |
Soo I got to ask, even knowing the fact that there is a very good chance all of this will be fixed and everything will go back to normal next episode. Do you still care about the bad things that have happened this and last episode if it will all be undone next episode?

Build seems to be drawing heavily off of how the first Gall Force ended as well as "Eyes of Mars". So I suspect resurrections are going to be similar. Though the question still remains of how many memories of the "past lives" will remain. In Gall Force it was none. That seems to be the direction this is taking and has been building to since the start with the introduction of how Pandora's box was found on Mars and Sento's own amnesia. Creatively, seems likely too. We started with Sento in base form with a dual split motif homage, gradually followed rider trends of power ups to his ultimate Genius form, and now the final form rather looks like he's become a bottle himself with how the 'skirt' looks and opens. Pulling him full circle to the roots of how the show started with bottles and his amnesia. Which with the story concept and how it's drawing on "Eyes of Mars" makes me think they'll take the show back to base concept at the end, a fresh beginning and the question of memories of the past. Not so much a resurrection method, as it is a clean slate to start over. A fresh beginning in a new world. This seems to be a common theme to many Japanese media things. I'm referencing Eyes of Mars and Gall Force, but it was also heavily dominant in the 90s with various material too. And tbh, Builds designs and colors are very 90s. |
Even at the last Gen is a boss. Nothing but crocodile tears this week.
What I'm curious about is why the Pandora chose only the Genius bottle to be drained. Every bottle was created through the use of the Pandora Box and the Nebula Gas that was the rarefied form of the Pandora energy. Also, being such a geek, I can't help but say the words "Metacrisis" without using the voice of the Doctor from Doctor Who. Then I start thinking the phrase "watching two earths smash" and think ...man, that's really dirty. |

Because the characters we knew would truly be dead, but their lives wouldn't be lost and they had a chance to fulfill the dreams they had. Kazumin and his gang could be together again, Gentoku could become an honest politician etc. And maybe even have a little something, like that our heroes are "strangely familiar" to the new Kazumin and Gentoku, and that they may want to work together again or something. Just don't have the characters pop up alive and well again and act like nothing really happened. Screw you, W! Anyways, @Topic: Good episode, really great stuff with Gentoku here. I’m just a little bit tired of the all-powerful, planet eating Evolto being defeated yet again because someone scratched his DX toy. Like, come on. I know he needs to have a weakness but I find it annoying that this is how they get him weak enough to throw him into space. But, bonus points for not using Vernage again. If Misora really did summon her again or something I’d be pissed. But then again, minus points for completely wasting Vernage. Apparently her getting mixed into Banjou was everything they could do with the character? Huh. |

So basically, like Ryuki? |

This is why I blame the Kamen Rider movies and in some cases the next franchise like Zi-O on why we can't get the types of endings that some of us want. I know many hate Phillip's revival in W, and W is my all time favorite KR season even with Aki-chan trying to ruin every episode. If there wasn't any KR movies with the old season and the new season merging or those larger rider collaboration movies, Philip could have died. One day, I'd like to see the main rider die of his injuries after defeating or killing the enemy. When I saw Kuuga, I thought they were both dead, but Yosuke survived. |
