Sentai Mecha Discussion: Dairanger
Ryuseioh
https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com...52bacfe49e.jpg http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/...20071127162936 Dairanger definitely threw a curveball by giving Ryuuranger a mecha capable of forming a robot mode all on its own. Ryuseioh is one very slick looking mecha. His design just looks great and the transformation from the dragon mode is pretty cool with how the dragon legs become the arms while the neck and tail become the legs. His more human like proportions also makes him look like martial arts warrior. Then there's the dragon mode which is really awesome and I think still stands as one of the most impressive models Sentai has ever done. Dairenoh https://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net...20130201073610 https://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net...20170303123135 https://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net...20120113170459 https://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net...20120113170434 https://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net...20170303123157 If Ryuseioh was the warrior, Dairenoh is most definitely the general. Having all the other animals cover up Ryuseioh like he's wearing armor is a cool idea and worked out really well. Really love all the chinese influences in the design like the head crest, the jewel in the center, to even something as simple as the skirt armor. My only real nitpick about it is the upper thigh area. I do like the silver pieces that cover the front as it helps out the overall colour combination, just wish it would cover the rest of the thigh. Heavenly Chi Palace https://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net...20131231035153 The Heavenly Chi Palace is ok I suppose. It's ridiculously simple in design and aside from resembling the flying nimbus from Journey to the West, there's really not much else to say about it. Won Tiger http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/...20161211162231 https://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net...20091014114803 Won Tiger is quite cool looking. Compared to Ryuseioh, he's bulkier and more chunky looking. Gives the feel that he has more raw power. The colour scheme is pretty nice as well, mostly white with black and red highlights along with tiny hints of gold. Also his sword is pretty cool, love how it's shaped like a chinese dao. Kiba Daioh http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__...atigerzord.jpg Similarly to Gouryujin from Zyuranger, Kiba Daioh is formed by Won Tiger combining with pieces of Dairenoh and just like Gouryujin, despite only the torso being changed, Kiba Daioh is quite different from Dairenoh. He looks more heavily built mostly thanks to Won Tiger being a bigger base torso than Ryuseioh and some silhouette differences like how the shoulders point outward instead of straight up. Having Star-Houou (Hououranger mech) form a gaunlet weapon for him is quite cool as well. Daimugen https://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net...20080413154227 https://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net...20071126210849 Daimugen is essentially the carrier mech for Dairanger with his ability to store either Ryuseioh or Won Tiger in his shell. The Turtle form is pretty good. It's big and it looks like it can tank a lot of hits. The mecha form however does feel like a bit of an afterthought. Granted I understand the limitations to his design in order to allow his gimmick to be available in both turtle and mecha form but the fact that the matter is, the mecha form is just the turtle standing up. Heavy Armor Chi Palace https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com...3d2cb69ab9.jpg This thing is somehow looks simultaneously ridiculous and intimidating. I mean yeah, it's just all mechas stacked on top of each other but I don't know, the image of this gigantic palace just coming at you does look and sound scary. Plus the finisher is pretty hilarious, with the monster literally getting crushed under the weight of this thing. Also makes me wonder how Ryuseioh is seemingly able to lift this thing into the sky by himself. Next week, Kakuranger |
2 things: 1, for my favorite Mecha/Zord, it's a tie between Dairenoh (Thunder Megazord) and Kibadaioh (Mega Tigerzord)
2, YOU FORGOT DAIJINRYUU (Serpentera)!!!!!! |
Ryuuseioh is probably where Main Mecha began to change with the added flexibility. He also follows the predecessor component Mecha of the Red Rangers by appearing first and winning the first Giant Battle of Dairanger.
Dairenoh is still a startling design after 20+ Years. The only complaints at present: an individual Dairanger Chi Power could have the combination use their attack save for Blue and Yellow, the Javelin weapon was only used in the Movie, and Dairenoh really didn't spark burst enough (which plagued the editors of Mighty Morphin' Season 2 who reused whatever spark bursting footage they could find). Kibadaioh had less attacks and while the visual impact of its finisher is impressive, it feels as though its out-of-place, like they couldn't settle on what the combination should actually do to win. Daimugen is one of the first times that a Mecha also appeared as a HUMAN!!! Dairanger 31 (Daimugen and the Heavy Armor Chi Palace) is still one of my favorites from the series! Daimugen is large and slightly laughable, but has impact (literally)! The Heavy Armor Chi Palace is simplistic, and sadly underused. It's an unconventional finisher and I have to wonder if parents in Japan had something to say about it specifically. Zaidos/Zydos of Gorma faced it twice (Dairanger 40 and 48), and the first time was both serious, emotionally, but also played for laughs. |
I think Dairenoh's design is heavily influenced by Daizyujin especially the legs and the pink zord. However, I love Ryuseioh dragon mode more than Red Tyranno. I'm disappointed with the carrier zord though, but the finisher was pretty funny especially when it fight someone with a human face.

Sorry about forgetting Daijinryuu. For some reason he slipped my mind since he's not affiliated with the Dairangers.
Daijinryuu http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/...20071111154806 Let's get the first thing out of the way. This guy is based on the dragon Shenlong from Chinese mythology but is also clearly insipired by Shenron from Dragon Ball. With all that said, Daijinryuu is easily the biggest mecha we've had so far in Sentai and because of that he's pretty darn terrifying. I mean the sheer size of him will make anyone want to wet their pants and while the mecha form is rather simplistic, considering how big he is already it no less conveys the message that this thing is a god. |

Overall I love the aesthetic of the bots and Dairenoh looks like it is always ready to kick ass and chew bubblegum. Seishishi is my favorite design and captures the Chinese guardian lion motif well I think. Won Tiger in its kidenjuu form is impressive as well. |
My favorite Sentai mechas, Daijinryuu is my favorite .

The way Daijinryuu was framed and lit was so impressive and menacing. Would not be out of place as a Godzilla foe.
