Kamen Rider Ex-Aid Episode 13- "Defined Destiny!" Discussion
Dangerous Zombie Gashat proves to be more powerful than any of the CR Team could've guessed. And with Dan gone, they have no access to further Gashat advancements. How can the Riders overcome this new enemy?!
As always you can view this episode via live stream on Saturday by heading over to Taima TV. They play other miscellaneous programs up until the live broadcast starts. Live Streams of the Superhero Time block start at 6:30 PM Eastern Standard Time on Saturdays. |

Well hey, Insert Songs are back. Guess they were on sabbatical last season.
|
Yeah, the return of insert song is definitely a good thing.
Aranbura Bugster is back with level 3. And you know what is funny? He is actually a very tough opponent in level 3, unlike Salty! He can spams a spell that freeze the riders in place, allowing him to nuke them without breaking a sweat. The only bad thing about this episode is the constant replay of Kiriya's death. Like, every 5 minutes. |
Insert theme? I...I need a clip or something. For research! Next episode has Emu fight with himself
|
Nice to hear that the Kamen Rider Girls are back!

Really good episode :D
Ah....I am more prefer Asuna wearing glassess and wearing office outfit because she looks more natural in my opinion..... I am watching raw...I am really want to know Emu and Pallad interaction before Emu obtain Mighty Brother X Gashat from Pallad..... Mighty Brother X Level 10 and Level 20 looks cool too.... Hmm...finally new insert songs...can't wait to see more insert songs in future.... Quote:

Can't really say much about the episode since it hasn't been subbed yet but I do like the subtle difference between the two Level XX Ex-Aid's, with one having closed fists while the other has open hands.
|
RTA has the subs up already. Loved the episode, glad Kiriya's death is still having an impact and I'm liking how they are handling death in this show. As it had to come around at some point.
Also, I just love the villains so much in this show. Genm is intimidating and Pallad is creepy. And they both feel like a threat, which is awesome. A hint of Taiga's softer side was super nice too. |
With my username, gotta post
I'm pretty happy that my suspicions that Pallad gave him the Gashat for data gathering for his own Gashat came true..they do look similar which is what led me down this road..
I guess they're finally delving into some backstory which is what I love in any series usually..next episode.. |
I just realized the glowy red eyes the patients get before the leveled up Bugsters pop up are the same as Emu had in episode 10 when he tricked the other Riders. That's sure ominous.
So's the whole Double Action thing honestly. That...looked real freaky. Emu's DNA is a hot mess it looks like. Really good episode, anyway. Kiriya's loss is felt, but it does look like they're seriously taking the opportunity to start giving Taiga and Hiiro more screentime. Hopefully it all pays off. |
Lol i just realized the trait of Asuna is being ignored.. i would love one hyper battle or V-cinema (maybe?) she have rider form...
And i just thought Genm critical death finisher is cool but really with double X in already in action will zombie gamer lose this early wow.. i think genm has a death flag now.. also i think taiga has more screen time because of nico |

Really am LOVING the body language used for Zombie Genm more and more, and the plot's thickening. And a fucking cancer patient. First Lazer being murdered on Christmas now this |

Here I was all nervous that the show wouldn't know what to do without Kiriya, but I think I might like it even more now? I liked that we got to see Kiriya's death not just get glossed over and Genm and Parad are continuing to be great villains. I'm kind of excited to see that Hiro is overseeing Emu's surgery internship, that could lead to some good scenes. Similarly Taiga looks like he'll be getting more involved again. Lots to look forward to.
I really liked the scene where Hiro orders cake and instinctively asks for a scalpel instead of a knife. I also like the W reference they threw into the Mighty Brothers XX announcement, but of course I did. :p |
Holy shit this was a good episode so good in fact that as I type I am shaking from this episode making me so hyper and excited. Just damn if for some reason someone is reading these and has not seen the episode yet then all I have to say is . . WATCH IT NOW BEFORE I BUST DOWN YOUR DOOR WITH A HAMMER!
Also am I the only one who thought when the two Ex-Aids looked at each other one would say something like "Hello handsome."Probably am now off to bounce off the walls WOOHOO!!! |
This also seems to strongly suggest that whatever Emu is now, he isn't human, or at least not fully human. I'm continuing to believe my theory that he is a Bugster made to take the real Emu's form when he died on the operating table.
That is a bit less ominous now that we know that Asuna is also a Bugster and no one really cares. |
Or we're taking a page out of Amazons and he's both at the same time.
I mean, his DNA looked kind of weird before the Gashat did... whatever it is it did. Lots of interesting questions there. |

Oh man. Did you guys see the looks on their faces when Emu went to Level XX?! I burst out laughing when I saw Hiiro and Taiga's reaction.
|
Hmmm..."The Gashat can't be used by a human"...*hero uses it*
Looks at his Faiz figure...hmmm....could they be... They are pulling a bit from all the series...and things I like. The "no one will die" reminds me of Ryuki, the boy band group of Riders from Blade...and this isn't a bad thing. Really scratching the geek spot...and speaking of Geek spot, Sniper's up grade form, TOTALLY reminds me of Centurions lol (for those of you in the 30+ club) |
Turns out the Excite subs were up really early this week, and since I didn't want Spearichu breaking down my door, here's some early episode highlights.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Aranbura Bugster is back, way stronger than before, and also has his original memories intact, evidenced by how he remembers Hiro and even goes after him rather than do anything to further stress out his host. This means that with enough time and effort, every single one of the MoTW can be as strong as Graphite was... This also means that the Bugsters are the scariest of the MoTWs I've ever seen, if the only difference between the regular bugsters and Graphite is that Graphite got to erase his host. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It also turns out Parad wasn't lying to Graphite back in episode 6. Their plan literally was: - Gather data to make the strongest game possible (Dangerous Zombie). - Infect people and unleash the other Bugsters. - Collect the original 10 gashats to prevent the bugsters from being defeated. - Create Kamen Rider Chronicle. - ??? - Profit. So I guess Graphite really was messing things up for Dan and Parad by attacking the riders ahead of schedule. No wonder they act like they can't just revive Graphite, they probably don't want him around anymore. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Also a minor qualm: When Emu uses the Mighty Brothers XX Gashat, one of the two remaining empty character slots fills up. Meaning the last slot will likey be Para-Dx, and also spoiling the information that there won't be any female riders this season. :( |

Least until Para-Dx uses the Gear Dual with the Gamer Driver, if he does. If that happens...who knows? They may just add more squares. |
Oh man, I have some more notable gripes than usual but I super enjoyed this one. One of the best episodes yet. Also, I'm probably going to forget a million little things I wanna mention because I always do:
- An insert theme?! Come on Ex-Aid, don't toy with my emotions like this. You kill off everybody's favorite character on Christmas and then give me a belated present? It's like, should I be even angrier, or just happy? The only problem here is its use felt really misplaced. It's not really a particularly triumphant moment, when you think about it (once again, Emu basically lucks his way into good things happening), and the episode just stops a minute later anyway. It seems like they should've held off on it until next episode, which promises to have a big dramatic scene where Ex-Aid and Ex-Aid have to learn to work together. - This was a particularly good episode for Hiiro, showing he isn't just a jerk for the sake of it, and that his attitude does have its merits, but once again, the show is really blowing off Graphite's entire existence like it was nothing. I took some potshots at the TV-Nihon forum a couple weeks ago, but truthfully, I echo quite a few of their sentiments to a lesser extent, and this is one of the big things. This is so easy, Ex-Aid. While he's chowing down on that cake, have him realize, just for a second even, how its sort of ironic for him to call Emu out on prioritizing revenge over the patient, and THEN have the monster show up to fight him. If you don't have the runtime for important drama like this, freakin' MAKE the runtime. This was one of my problems with Ghost too (yes, I have problems with Ghost. I don't believe it either), but Ex-Aid's actual human drama scenes feel really cramped, short, and less in focus than they ought to be. And in this case, literally not there at all. This stuff is the reason I'm still hoping we'll eventually get another early Heisei styled show. - I'm digging this Mighty Brothers XX stuff so far, though. I'm still bummed they're ditching the neon pink so early, but as long as Level 2 (and I guess 3 and 5 by extension) don't get phased out of the show to Ghost levels it won't be a problem. I look forward to seeing what kind of crazy action scenes we get out of this, let alone crazy plot stuff. - And hey, they're also doing stuff with Snipe. Easy there, pal, make sure you don't solve that mystery before the audience does, or Toei/Genm might kill you off next! Jokes aside, It's good to see that both our other side Riders are getting some focus literally right after Lazer made his exit. It seems like the show understands they need to be able to pull some more weight without Kiriya around. EDIT: Hey, what do you know? I forgot to mention some things: - I like how they pulled a Kuuga and just gave up on keeping the constant monster attacks under wraps. Although I have to wonder what people's reactions to this stuff were like. I've thought Ex-Aid's use of the word was hilarious from the start, but thinking about it, if I was at a hospital and the doctor "operated" on me by turning into a cute mascot character and fighting a CG poop monster (or evidently, just a normal monster. What's a "Level 1"?), I'd be seriously questioning where my life has taken me. - Also, I should probably speculate more on what this whole Kamen Rider Chronicle business is about, but I tend to just let mysteries in shows come at me as they do. I do wonder if the show is willing to truly carry on in Gaim's legacy and do something crazy like "Dan literally turns the world into a game", however. |
Maybe Dan is a crazier Shiro Kanzaki
|
Crazier Kanzaki? Try crazier Ryouma Sengoku.
I mean, Ryouma loved his data as much as the next guy, but deliberately getting himself lethally wounded for it? Dude wishes he was that metal. |

Well, he did perform brain surgery on himself once. Not quite sure how, but he did it.
EDIT: NINJAS! |

Damn, this episode was so epic. No offense for Kiriya's lovers but I'm glad that he wasn't my favorite character to begin with. I now understand more about the fact that Kiriya was sacrificed to kick the story even more. As much as you love Kiriya, I feel Hiiro and Taiga got a quite nice development here. In this case, I love Taiga's interaction with Nico in this episode. She really knows how to make Taiga a softie and that's why Taiga grows to be my favorite character. The nitpick where Hiiro constantly reminded Emu to focus on patients first was nice either. It mirrors the time when Hiiro still had a grudge on Graphite. And Pallad... I was already sure that he will be a wild card character. I even feel that he will troll against Dan sooner or later.
It's nice to see an insert theme after a year without it on Ghost. Though the first usage was too short and out of place. So, I hope they will use it much better in the next episode. Regarding about Emu, whatever he is, I'm pretty sure he isn't a normal human. Either he is a Bugster or Bugster's former victim, it's intriguing to see it. Genm Zombie still rocks as ever and I think he won't be nerfed long enough like Zangetsu Shin. It's kinda hard to take him serious of he keeps using Sparrow. I prefer he uses hand-to-hand combat. |
Another wonderful episode. The suit actor for Zombie is just killing it, no-selling all of the Kamen Rider's offense with an undead style of movement. He still has the best HENSHIN sequence in the game.
Plus, his finisher of sending a gaggle of dead souls to converge on the target is so unique and fitting of his theme More plot moving forward with Parad giving the secret black gashat to Emu just in time to fight Gemm. Para backstabbing or just a lunatic out for chaos? Oh and Gemm is a real bastard for using Kiriya's crossbow weapon. Fucker We get to see the impact of Kiriya's death on the team. Bravo ignores it and continues on business as usual, Snipe starts digging into Gemm, Emu is paralyzed with the death Great stuff all around not sure how i feel about the Mighty bros suit. Seems real goofy, like all of them, sure, but for a black gashat? Would have liked something like Kamen Rider Fang (yeah i know its too close to Zombie) |

He doesn't really, he can just have one square with a slash showing both heads.
|
I also doubt Para-Dx will use character select screen. At least, not when he only uses the Gashat only. He might get one, provided the usage of Gashat Gear Dual with Gamer Driver. Seeing Brave and Snipe will get new forms and Ex-Aid's LV 99, I even feel that the character select screen needs to be increase. Anyway, is it me but the more I think about Kamen Rider Chronicle the more I feel that they want to create another sequel for Battride War series with Dan advertises it :P? And why Hiiro and Taiga got knocked out of transformation when fighting Genm Zombie while Kiriya wasn't knocked out of it previously. Didn't Genm Zombie have that jammer that prevents Riders to be knocked out of transformation during critical health? I'm not a Kiriya fan but I would be angry if they don't explain this.

And it's a bit of theory but seeing that Ex-Aid is living up Gaim's name, I felt that Kamen Rider Chronicle is somewhat similar to Project Ark. And Bugster infection is inevitable similar to Helheim and in order to stop people fromdl dying, people must become a Kamen Rider to survive and of course with limited resource of it. I don't know but Dan's words in this episode somewhat confirmed and proved this even more. |

Love the EP. Ruminations on mortality was the last thing I expected from Ex-Aid, but there is - and not handled too poorly! I need to watch again to talk any deeper but, Nico - I'm telling you, she's related to Emu. I mean, isn't it odd that we haven't heard a peep about his family when a big part of his mythos is that he almost died as a kid? Looking very likely that he's a Bugster, which is a Heisei trope (the hero is one of the monsters) and, at least obliquely, a nod to Showa as well. I'm fine with this provided that this reveal is not the end point. I mean, it's almost expected. |
After seeing this episode, wow...Toei sure does know how to scar children for life, don't they? Our main villain is a zombie, a beloved character died last episode on Christmas, our current VotW is in the terminal stages of pancreatic cancer and our hero may or may not be an abomination. Nice.
