Power Rangers Fan-First Friday, 10/30/20

That was... incredibly disappointing, wow. No actual new LC reveals - even if the previously-revealed ones do look nice in person - and the basic line doesn't even include their actual weapons. Real downgrade from their Go-Busters line. And then the keys are static plastic with tacky holofoil stickers, they really thought we wanted to see the bad gimmick figures and thought they could get some sales by saying "they're just like Sofubis!"... at least the mecha has a little more articulation and Green's a girl.
Terrible stream compared to Transformers'. At least have a single LC reveal or something. |
The Dino Fury Champion Megazord is exactly what I wanted. Finally a main line Megazord with Modern Transformers articulation. This is why John Warden is on Power Rangers
|
Incredibly strange that those Dino Fury toys don't seem to feature whatever the Ryusoul-Ken equivalent is. I'm expecting new merch of course, but surely the amount of footage in the show where they are wielding their regular swords will far eclipse them using PR original stuff.
Of course the mecha are where it's at. A new and improved line of those dinosaurs capable of lego-ing together anyway you want is pretty exciting. |

I didn't even catch that. Oh, that's... hrm. Getting memories of this Batman toy I owned as child that wielded a translucent blue bazooka and even back then thinking 'this doesnt seem right'.
|
I really didn't care for the head/key gimmick in... Ryusolger? (I didn't keep up with it) but at least those keys folded up.
This is just... I dunno. Probably pass on all this because I've never cared for the "Lego" aspect either. |
I like everything i see. I Hope we get an air date soon.
|
I'm watching the very cool video. Ranger Keys again but new love it. Love the card art & knowing that the toys come out later this year. May be Black Friday?
|
I'm so happy about the Zords. It's has modern Transformers articulation. And they said it can do All 9 forms. Think they left out one or two, that thing gets a lot of upgrades.

Wow look at all that hollow space behind those "designer vinyl" inspired toys!
|
Neat, first Ranger genderswap since Wild Force (I'm pretty sure.) I honestly kinda thought they'd do that for Green in Dino Charge, and when they didn't I figured they'd never do it again. Glad to be proven wrong, though, since this means Dino Fury has two female Rangers on the team.

They actually added articulation to the megazords. Like ACTUAL articulation that Bandai JP/Plex could have done. I'm regretting buying all the ryusoulger mech now
|
I think the Ryusoulger mecha are super cool. So if they can recreate that and give the Megazords articulation then I'm very interested!
|
I was fine with Bandai's Kishiryuoh until I saw what Hasbro is cooking. Bandai should start taking notes on how to make combining robot toys. The morpher on the other hand is...meh. I think the sound effects stuff is great but the keys, man.
|
Ryusoul Green is now a girl.
Cool. I'd love to buy her potential LC. Wish they could put out a variant of male Ryusoul green tho. Kinda like how Bandai put out both versions of MMPR/Zyuranger Yellow. |

Almost like it's aimed at a target audience who 99% of the time will never have heard of a Super Sentai.

It's the kind of thing that probably shouldn't have worked even back in the 90's, yet here we are, 30 years later, still chatting about it and wondering exactly how they're going to adapt dinosaurs again. It's stuck around in the cultural memory, and seems more popular than ever. And, honestly, from the POV of seeing how it all comes together, it's a great exercise in recontextualising scenes, and writing with constraints.
(Also, it kinda gets away with it because, once you're above the age of 10, it's not as if PR being based on Sentai is some deep industry secret, a quick google will tell you all you need to know.) |
Oh, another thing I just realized: Wouldn't this mean Power Rangers' first female Green Ranger? It's definitely at least the first female Green on the main team, but I'm pretty sure there hasn't been any female Greens in PR, even counting Extra Rangers.

Kinda hoping they would add a skirt for her, but most likely not.
|
Why do the Lightning Collection monsters not have fully painted heads? Why are they a different scale then the normal figures? What's wrong with King Sphinx's face?! Aaahhhhh.
|
Budget.
Also the reason they're 8 inch is because, well, they're monsters. They're meant to be bigger than the Rangers. |
Wait. People are bitching about Green being female? Lol what. I much prefer this since I'm more accustomed with 3 males and 2 females in a 5-person team, and not really a fan of 4 males 1 female per team.
Even before Dino Charge was officially announced I was wishing they would make one of them female just so we have balance. |
People are never satisfied. You get used to it.
|
so are hasbro gonna finish the Beast Morphers zords? or are they gonna even do the screen used stuff they choose to adapt for dino fury?
whats the point in making mecha if you arent even going to make the ones you chose to USE ON SCREEN... also those keys look mad trash |

In terms of Zord sales for Beast Morphers, the season is a dismal failure. |
When's the first issues of the new Boom comics supposed to happen? Can't say I'm happy with them going back to two ongoings.

They made the GB visor or beast-x visor a prominant upgrade in the show and showcased its functions in the Beast-x mode reveal episode, and throughout the 2nd season. No toy was ever released, but it was molded onto the beast-x mode figures. Its sounds were relegated to the Beast-x morpher, which was just a glorified remote for the Beast-x king zord in-show. Ok.
They showed the GB camera blaster and its combination with the Beast-x saber in-show. Only released a roleplay toy for the saber with added shooting sounds, no blaster ever released. However, the basic figures all came with a representations of the camera blaster, beast-x saber, and the combined form. The gold and silver rangers striker saber never had a toy released for it, and their morpher was turned into less than decent nerf gun, no electronic striker morpher ever released. And echoing what others have said, no sight of the beast- x king zord. For a company that said they would elevate the brand and "unlock" its potential, they've done a pretty poor job capitalizing on the sentai footage as well as distribution. Only place with all the zords is Amazon with the giftset. Say what you will about BOA, but at least they gave you roleplay versions of every changer and upgrade you saw on tv, and their distribution wasn't too bad. However, with Dino Fury, although the megazord looks fantastic and blows DX Kishiryujin out of the water, its still a prototype.I fear that by the production phase, Hasbro will have gutted as much plastic as possible to "cut costs", leaving a hollow and gappy mess to hit the shelves. Pretty much what they've done with Transformers Siege and Earthrise (excellent engineering, but gappy, riddled with qc, and use lackluster plastic, along with a premium price). The morpher looks like a step back from BOA as well. BOA gave us painted functioning ranger keys, even if they were puny, and dino chargers as functional as the kyoryuger beast batteries. Dino steels take on ryusouls takes away everything interesting about the ryusouls, from their molded detail, to their flip out gimmick, and replaces it with a cheap plastic silhouette of an open ryusoul and slaps a sticker on it. Woopdeedoo. The morpher itself looks the part, but sounds and jingles leave a lot to be desired. Farts sounds dont seem like a good sales gimmick when it comes to a brand like power rangers. I mean BOA aren't saints either, they made those garbage ninja stars for ninja steel, but prior to that the roleplay stuff wasn't too bad and we still got everything seen in-show as a similarly functioning toy. The Dino Fury basic figures come with less than the beast morphers figures do, and dont even seem to include their ryusoul kens', opting instead for inaccurate toy-exclusive weapons. They create new sublines for dino fury when they already have trouble distributing the established ones. Pretty much nothing aside from lightning collection has shown their dedication to the brand, and even that is riddled with numerous paint errors, inconsistencies, and qc issues. It just looks like they care about their home grown brands a lot more than power rangers, and its pretty evident with their advertising. I really hope im wrong about hasbro, and they fix distribution, along with having roleplay weapons for at least what they show on tv and the megazord not being hollowed out trash. The morphers are what they are, hopefully they're better the following season. |
