Super Sentai minipla appreciation thread!
Are DX sized toys too large and unarticulated for your collection? Do you find Super Robot Chogokins to lack the combining gimmick that makes Sentai mecha special? Then the minipla/candy toy range are just for you!
The first one I bought was GokaiOh, and I instantly fell in love with the line. Over the last year I've bought all of the Gokaiger mecha releases (bar Starburst GokaiOh) and picked up the Go-Onger range too :D Sometimes the stickering can be a little annoying (the Go-Onger engine eyes spring to mind) but they're a satisfying smaller alternative to the larger toys. I'm eagerly anticipating pics of the Gobuster line, but in the meantime I have the clear GokaiOh variant on preorder to tide me over. Share your love/likes/dislikes of the line here :) |
I love the line, but I wish I have the time and all the paint required to make it REALLY awesome like A7 makes his.

I have several Candy Toys myself: Ground Gosei Great DaiTenku Buster and of course Gokaioh. I did hand paint them of course, a little bit of paint and these guys end up looking fantastic. |
The minipla line has always looked really cool to me. It has the best of both worlds, combining AND posability. Unfortunately, I do not own any of them.
|
Let's not forget how addictive those little ramune candies are.
|
I'd love to get 'em personally. How tall are they anyways? Say, compared to a GI Joe?
|
I've no Joes to take a pic with, but this is pretty close right?

Here's a Gokaioh I finished painting a long time ago:

I recently got in to Minipla (Christmas actually!). I love these things but some of the stickers tend to not want to stay on (mainly wrap around stickers). So I've decided to paint them. What do you guys use to paint them? I've heard Gundam markers a couple of times. Thanks!

I love them. I got into it with goseiger and have continued and aim to continue getting them. I usually go for a mixture of paint and stickers, particularly on areas where the detail isn't molded in.
I've fallen into a routine though were i don't seem to buy the last two sets of each series for some reason or another, hopefully Gobuster will change this =) |
i have gokaioh, really wish the src's were just these figures with better materials and paint aps instead of stickers. Better joints would also be nice but aren't necessary I guess. I'd buy every SRC if done that way.
the minipla line is really fantastic either way |

For my kits, I use Mr. Color and Mr. Metal Color lacquer paints, as Bandai kits tend to favor them in terms of color matching. I have to admit that I'm no expert in painting. Here's the true master of Minipla: 映GUN具 http://blog-imgs-46.fc2.com/e/i/g/eigangu/032gokai.jpg Gokaioh http://blog-imgs-47.fc2.com/e/i/g/eigangu/001masin.jpg Gokai Machine Set 1 http://blog-imgs-42.fc2.com/e/i/g/ei...035gojujin.jpg Gozyujin http://blog-imgs-42.fc2.com/e/i/g/ei...9furaimaru.jpg Fuuraimaru http://blog-imgs-42.fc2.com/e/i/g/eigangu/010niseg.jpg Custom Nise Gokaioh http://blog-imgs-42.fc2.com/e/i/g/ei...24kanzenmi.jpg Kanzen Gokaioh http://blog-imgs-42.fc2.com/e/i/g/ei...42kanzenmi.jpg I'm officially not worthy. |

I really should bite the bullet and get these, but I had a hard time identifying which ones were them when I initially heard about and wanted to get them. Since then... well, 2011's a strong year for toys, they've been on the wayside. |

Thanks for the tips on what paint to use, areaseven! I've been having trouble trying to find the right paints.
|
Those pics encouraged me to take those awful stickers off my Patstriker's wheels and have a go at painting the rims myself. While it didn't turn out as good as the picture A7 posted, I can't deny that it looks a million times better than the stickers did.
Amazing what a little paint can do. |
Wow, nice pics. I'd be interested in getting a few of these, like Gokaioh, but where does one get them for not-crazy-ebay prices?

okay, thanks, I'll have to look into that.

#33 Flat Black #63 Pink #66 Bright Green #107 Character White #108 Character Red #110 Character Blue #159 Super Silver #217 Mr. Metal Color Gold Gozyujin is very tricky, though, as Gunze Sangyo does not have a color that matches the blue. I've tried varying combinations of blue, black, gray and purple, but to no avail. The closest I've gotten was #80 Cobalt Blue topped over flat black, though it's still a bit brighter. For Gozyujin's light blue parts such as the drill tip, I used #50 Clear Blue (plus #338 Light Gray FS36495 as a base coat for the trident tip and Gozyu Rex antenna); you can also use #323 Light Blue instead. I loved the Shinkenger Minipla...but they dropped the ball when they made the clownshoes ultimate combination instead of the show's super platform.
|
I've been interested in these ever since Vangelus did his V-Build of Gosei Great. I really wish I had picked up the Gokaiger ones, at least a Gokai-Oh but for some reason or another I never did. I'm going to make sure I don't miss out on the Gobusters ones though.

I missed out on the Shinkenger Minipla line; all I have is the upper body of Daikaioh. :(
Currently, I have the following Minipla kits:
In addition, I have a second Gozyujin kit; I used the arms and Gokai Galleon from the first edition Gokaioh to form Kanzen Gokaioh. Pictures can be found on my gallery thread: A7's Super Sentai Toy Gallery |

Hong Kong should be getting the Shinkenger minipla soon right? My SRC will suffice as far as ShinkenOh goes, but I'd be quite tempted by the Ebi and Ika origamis.
|
Here's an awesome stop-motion video of the Minipla Gokaioh (Clear Version) kit.
|
God that video was fun to watch

I thought I had posted this, but I guess not as I can't seem to find my previous post, but anyway, I was wondering, if I plan on painting Minipla kits, is it best to paint after or prior to assembly? Also, what would be good websites to track down the Hong Kong versions?

Time to give this thread one last Gokaiger hurrah before it goes Go-Busters centric ;)

Oh, I so want that. I'm a sucker for translucent robits.
|
Yeah, that was pretty much the reason I got it too :lol
Makes me wish the standard version had come with foil stickers though, they look so much nicer. |

I have the auxiliary mechs on the way, is there any affordable way to get either the regular or the clear kit? Or Both?
