Mecha Shark doo doo doo doo~

Yo the sushi making humagear is the karate guy that Kintaros was bonded to.
|
Izu is cute, but the smiling Yua is way cute.
Plus the sass she gave to Fuwa, damn! |
Less impressive episode for me this week. Not a bad one but I feel we fell into some KR tropes I don't like.
We spend too much time into "victim of the week" life. And we get a "monster of the week runs away for no real reason" I don't find Rushing Cheetah first henshin as iconic as Vulcan too. The key flip is cool. But after the rest of the sequence is just ok. That said, the opening visual are amazing, and there is already a frame/slot ready for someone else x) Both girls are great characters so far. who can be cute, cool and funny. Izu mimicking Aruto at the end was funny, and her trying to stand up higher to see the video was funny and cute Yua can be cute when smiling but is also damn strong and determined. Even Schesta was cute trying to evil laugh but doing it in a robot way. I dont know who this is at the end and what they talked with Yua (that zero one is Aruto ? I'm not sure) but I'm glad we have a mystery character somehow |

Since Magia Monster designs have same basic suits, maybe Toei are planned to make a lot of Magia Monsters until episode 40s. |

I know lot of people like them, especially W, which funny enough is my least favorite KR show, but I feel like when you have 10+ recurring character already, you can refrain making episodes centered around your neighbor great uncle or your street convenience store owner that won't really tell anything about the main story or characters. That's exactly how you end up with KR shows with characters like Time Jackers in Zi-O, which are still at 1% development by episode 45 If you really want to do something along these lines, you can still do it with the main characters more included like Sentai do sometimes, like making it related to some character's past or anything (I can't believe I want KR to take things from Sentai now ^^"). It would at least tell us more about their background, even if silly. |
Is there a long-haired Izu I see in the OP?
Mmmm the plot thickens. |

I want to see a series that is just as entertaining in the short term as in the long term, W, OOO and Fourze all nail that and ZI-O in my opinion as well. I just really hope the Magia are not as forgettable and lame as they appear now, but that was a problem Ex-Aid had as well. |

I'm inclined to cut the show some slack in its use of "victim of the week" structure so far. We're still very early into the show's run and a lot of plot and character elements are being introduced in each episode. This week we got both a new Rider and a new form for Aruto, so I can forgive the show if it wants to use more episodic threats as it works to build up the initial status quo. And even then, we still got some stuff with Yua hacking Sushibot and reporting her findings to some mysterious dude (which, as a pleasant side note, implies that Aruto won't be keeping his identity secret for too long).
I liked the episode itself, even if the story with the grumpy old chef wasn't especially original. We got some development on how HumaGears can be at least partially recreated, which is nice, but the show still sells the idea that they aren't exactly the same character who got militarized. Speaking of, I'm curious to see if there's anything more to the fact that the infection tentacles appeared to completely ignore Izu. As for the action, Yua's debut was cool and I liked the first use of Fang. I didn't get too deep into the pre-show announcements and previews, so I was pleasantly surprised with how the alternate forms just shift away the Hopper armor. It's a bit reminiscent of Den-O and I like it a lot. Izu had some great moments this week. I liked the bit with her preemptively doing the joke for Aruto and seeing her hopping up and down in the background to see the sushi video was freaking adorable. |
So many subtle hints on the nature of Humagears:
1. They have unlimited capability to learn. This is very advanced rank of AI development 2. The one picked to be Magia is the one who feels satisfactions toward his work serving humanity. The ones who smile. 3. The humagears have cloud repositories of their personalities data stored, so they can be remade. I wonder if the muscle-joke Humagear is remade or not. 4. The Singularity was perhaps a Skynet but made from combinations of data of various AIs rebelled against human slavery. They chose the awakened Humagears and corrupt their data precisely because of this. They corrup the hearts of the humagears. |
Maybe Zero-One will be similar to Ex-Aid. They do all the introductions in the beginning (new riders and forms) and then start to the main problem later.
|
Interesting that The progress keys themselves seem to be linked to the disaster as now it seems possible that both the wolf and cheetah keys and perhaps the drivers were recovered or built using materials recovered from the disaster site.

Another really good episode. Sushi Owner side plot was great, nothing too original but still tugged on the ol' heartstrings. I loved that we got to see more of Yua's personality and how she treats Humagear's as tools that humans can use for their betterment. She is very neutral compared to Fuwa and Aruto and it'll make a great dynamic going forward.
Izu is cute as hell (the joke at the end was so good), the fight scenes remain incredible and the CG actually looks pretty good. Valkyrie's henshin was cool, her debut fight was dynamic and I loved the emphasis on speed and the finisher was amazing. Just glad to have a primary female Rider for once. Biting Shark looks great and it's super creative how the armour bits from Rising Hopper reconfigure differently for each form. The finisher was great too. Only gripe about this episode was I don't entirely buy the fact that Sushi Owner would buy the Humagear after seeing it turn into a death-robot but I guess he really was touched by Nigiro. Interesting reveal at the end. If that guy really is Thouser, that's hella early for the character to be making an appearance, but that makes things feel a lot more coherent in the long run. Also that opening sequence, man. So good. The visuals go with the music nicely and we have a healthy dose of foreshadowing. Really interested by Izu's appearance as well as the scene at the end in the ruins of the city. I am so excited to see where this show goes. Also sneaking in Kamen Rider Jin and Horobi early into the opening was hype. Can't wait to see them in the show proper. |

Hmm...about Yua, Yua as Valkyrie is really badass. I can't wait to see her team up with Vulcan in next epsiode :D Izu is really interesting too. I really love her personality. :D |
Not a lot to say about this episode but I did like it quite a lot.
The debut fight of Valkyrie was impressive. But what I liked was that we get to see where Yua stands on Humagear issues. And I also think that might be Thouser she's talking too at the end. Also interesting that if they have a back-up of a humagears personality they can put it in a new body. That makes it less sad to see the Humagears destroyed like the one in the first episode. |

What the original learned was likely lost, we do not know how far back the backups for the humagear is, but their original is still lost. The sushi bot would likely have eventually become a Magia candidate, the ones so far have been a bit further along the path of awakening emotions from what we have seen, the smiling when no one is looking seems to be a trait for them all so far, an act that would be pointless without a human looking at them otherwise. |
Now that I've watched subs of the first two and a raw of this one, I'm less concerned about the bizarre comedy. I guess it's a fair interpretation of the "failed comedian" thing that Aruto's attempts at humor are just sort of bizarre and uncomfortable for the people around him. (Well, except for our secondary Rider, apparently.)
I was already excited by Valkyrie's uniqueness as a secondary Rider, and this episode's character twist makes her even more interesting. (I still have to wait for the script on this episode, but I got the gist.) And she's way more tolerable than Vulcan... I've already decided to seriously rein in my purchase of Rider Figuarts, but I'm pretty sure if I buy a secondary Rider at all, it'll be Valkyrie. |
Shilling my thoughts/review here: https://youtu.be/rTDz91EsLl8
I liked this episode. While it didn't have the same big impact or impressiveness of the first two episode, it was still a really good episode. Victim of the week, while not original, was handled very well. Valkyrie's debut and Biting Shark form were really good as well. We're getting more mysteries/slight answers to the world of Zero One. Loving this series so far |
I very much liked Rushing Cheetahs acrobatic fighting style. Lots of flips and somersaults.
Whoever the suit-actor(actress) is they're very good. |
So, that ending. I didn't expect that to happen so quickly - gives me Build vibes about how they're revealing things, probably just to build more on from other directions (ie who Yua's benefactor is). It certainly seems promising for future plots.
As for the MOTW stuff, if this is the average quality of "filler" (a word I dislike, but whatever), I'll take as much as I can get. Questions of whether AI's have sould, whether a backup is the same person (something Ex-Aid almost had but gave up on, so same writer could be a better expansion of the same topic), as well as the differing viewpoints of the main riders look to make even the standalone plots interesting. Idk, I'm just a fan of the topic, so I'm an easy mark for this. The cool action also helps, with Valkyrie's debut showing great stunt direction, and Rising Shark has some neat moments too, can't wait to never see it again. |
Am I the only one who actually likes that they are seemingly mostly doing away with having to collect the form gimicks and that they simply manufacture new ones as needed? I rather like that. Wouldn't want it for every season as it would seem to simple, but works fine for a rider that owns an entire company and AI that can easily do so.

Some of you guys are saying this is a downgrade compared to the first two episodes, but, man, I couldn't care less whether or not it is. While I agree it doesn't have quite the same level of immediate impact, a lot of things here suggest this show has a very healthy future ahead of it. There's three main points that impressed me:
- Yuuya Takahashi finally learned to how to write a good Victim of the Week guest character, correcting one of his few notable weak spots from Ex-Aid, and bringing him one glorious step closer to achieving omnipotence. Okay, I might be exaggerating that last part, but still. If you think this is filler, you're nuts. There is no more perfect a show to do plots like this in. What's the point of focusing the story on a world where humans interact with advanced AI in their everyday lives if we don't see those lives? It inherently adds depth to the world in a way I don't think applies to any other Rider shows that use this format. This wasn't some arbitrary aside. The plot here explored the central theme of the series in a natural way (The CEO Rider tries to make a sale!), while bouncing the development back onto the main characters. Granted, none of them have an arc in this particular episode (Aruto maybe has like, 50% of one I guess), but we didn't know much about Yua before, and now we do, so it's mission accomplished as far as I'm concerned. Plus, the HumaGears also fulfilling the VotW role is a really interesting twist given that unlike a Zodiart or a Dopant, they don't just get better after being blown up, something this episode further elaborates on nicely after the mildly head-scratching moment at the end of last episode. It's not some amazing masterpiece of a story, but as something to set the bar going forward, it's extremely promising. - This show also passed its real test! The episode wasn't directed by Sugihara, and it still looked gorgeous and maintained a lot of the same unique stylistic touches, courtesy of fellow LuPat alum Shoujirou Nakazawa, who was also, funnily enough, Ex-Aid's main director, and also Wizard and Shinkenger's, just in case the guy's style credentials weren't clear enough already. There's a level of intensity to the fights in this show so far that far surpasses the past few years and I'm happy to see it continue here. - Oh, and speaking of style, Valkyrie leaves a really good first impression here. I mean, I like fast things, so this wasn't exactly a hard sell for me, but wow, did I like everything about her fight scene. Especially since she's actually shown to be using her brain at points, versus Aruto and Fuwa, who are too doofy and too angry respectively to do much strategizing. I should also mention that both the AIMS Riders fall squarely into the category of "designs that look a lot better in motion". Like once you see them as nice suits with perfectly chosen materials and colors for all the bits, under perfectly done lighting on a nice camera, they look awesome. As for the more minor stuff, the opening was more than worth the wait. I like when they go all out on the visuals and they very much did that here. I also loved Zero-One just peacing out after the monster got away so as not to have to deal with Vulcan any longer than necessary. Again, this is the kind of Agito-esque interaction (or lack thereof in this case) that I've really missed seeing between Riders. |

After watching the ep with subs, I'll revise my judgment about the ep.
Without really knowing what the conversation are and only the visuals, you would think we're in a case of victim of the week. I thought many talks were about the sushi chef and the robot, but they weren't. There was only very few about it. Just enough to give a concrete setting to the situation. But it was more an episode about the place of humagear in the society and the different pov you can have about them (Aruto accepting them almost as humans, Yua seeing them as useful tools, and the Chef thinking they lack that special thing that makes humans humans) In that regard it's understandable to do such an episode very early. And the theme developped is quite deep even though "simple" in appearance. And next week we might be full plot again so yay. Also : Aruto : "Am I the only one thinking Humagears might have a heart ?" oh. so you mean that humagears might have a hidden heart, HIDEN ARUTO-san ? ... ... Now that's... a show by Omnikaiser ! (Im out ==> []) |

And more importantly, Aruto is supposed to be bad at puns! It fits!!

Okay, so my few observations!
The suits being a bit more modular rather than mostly new get ups saves money that seems to be doing two things: 1. Allowing for lightweight combat versions that lends to better fight choreography and 2. Allowing that saved cash to go toward CGI - Because, so far, it's a good cut above Neo Heisei standards. Re: fight choreography: loving the integration of puroresu moves!! Too fun! Story was good, moving right along. Dashing Cheetah was frickin awesome and I loved her belt jabber!! Aruto isn't bothering me as much as I thought he might but, maybe I've stopped caring and just accepted the goofy factor in Rider. |
|
Decent episode, love the fight choreography in this show so far, especially the way they highlight Valkyrie's fighting style in this ep.
I'd prefer they take it slow and tell us more about how the society at large (outside of the core characters) perceive the Humagear; I'd assume that there would be the significant issue of robots taking over the jobs of human beings? Or maybe this show's version of Japan already has a significantly declined population due to the ongoing population growth issue, making robot labor force a necessity... |
