"Tune Rhino. Super Break Up!"
Faced with the inability to become a Kamen Rider anymore, Chase had to rely on a new dangerous power to fight Roidmudes again. The Rhino Super Viral Core unlocks the Super Evolution level abilities of a Roidmude. For Chase, this puts him on the same level as other evolved types like Heart & Medic. This viral core takes Chase's previous transformed state and upgrades him to Super Mashin Chaser! Packaging Super Mashin Chasers' packaging is identical to what we've seen from previous Drive releases. This box is very much in line with how Drive Tamashii Web Exclusive have looked with art across the front instead of a window, but otherwise this packaging resembles the original Chaser packaging quite a bit. Nothing really out of the ordinary. Main Figure This figure is a straight up repaint (with some retooling) of the original S.H. Figuarts Mashin Chaser mold, which was released nearly 2 years ago now. And it's actually the third release of this mold after Kamen Rider Super Dead Heat Drive. An absolutely brilliant figure in it's original state, this release is every bit as fantastic the third go around. A majority of my review will be identical to the last two, so if you'd like to skip ahead to pictures, feel free! At the time that I reviewed the original Chaser release this mold was all it's own, totally unique to other Drive releases. And even after 3 outings it's still a really interesting figure with lots of unique details, plenty that seem to shine in each particular release. And a lot of that is thanks to Chaser's incredible asymmetry. Super Mashin Chaser of course looks gorgeous even more so in this new form because of all that beautiful gold. While the original release was quite dark and mostly black, this one features a nice vibrant metallic gold with some minor purple accents. Back to the asymmetry though, Super Mashin Chaser is probably one of the more elaborately molded Figuarts ever. Each thigh is unique, both forearms, his chest, head, everything really. On the original release both shoulders were unique as well, but this release opts for symmetrical spiked shoulders and move's Chase's signature skull emblem to his chest. The head is by far the most interesting part of the figure, and like the shoulders it's also seen some retooling for new parts. There's just so much technical detailing put into it that it's astounding. I had a bit of a gapping issue through the middle of the head on my original Chaser, but this one seems to have mostly corrected it. And those eyes, just some of the best compound eyes I've ever seen on a rider figuart, aside from the incredible ones on Jungraider. This is just a lovely figure. By the way those tubes you see all over Chaser's body? They're made of an awesomely flexible plastic so you're much less likely to break them. Also because of the way the torso tubes are connected to Chaser they run the length of his torso and down to his waist but loop back up and attach to his back. So you don't have a rigid connection to the waist that would hinder movement. Sadly there are 2 things that hinder the arms. The shoulders. Though Super Mashin Chaser really does have a full range of motion, his shoulders are more poorly designed than the original. Though both have ball jointed pads on them the way the shoulders are designed prevents you from lifting the arms up and fully out perpendicular to the body, the original release could get much closer. The shoulders can be pulled down and out but when you try to bend them back and up the sheath around the shoulder impacts the torso. Rather than being able to put his arms in a 90 degree angle you get more of about 60 degrees. So it's a bit hard to get the arms posed more naturally out. Otherwise the figure is still incredibly solid, though I still have one minor complaint, Tires aren't compatible with his back. Just as with the previous two releases this one can't interact with the rest of the line in that fashion. Still disappointed by that. Like I said though this mold is mostly identical to the other two. So it can utilize the Busou Chaser set, but you will have to remove the forearm section as well as the back plate panel for them. And for obvious reason the additional forearm that was included in the Busou Chaser set is purple, so it won't match the gold of Super Mashin Chaser's original arm. Either way, you can work it, and the effect is well worth it. That set looked great on the first Chaser, but wow, with the extra pop of the gold? It's perfection. I'll most likely leave it displayed that way from now on. Accessories Super Mashin Chaser comes with basically the same things that the original release did with one addition. 3 - set of hands. Pretty standard fare here. Open hands for menacing stuff, one set to hold the Break Gunner in either hand, and a set of bike riding hands for the Ride Chaser. These are a seriously welcome inclusion as many modern figuarts have not always included them right off the bat. 1 - Break Gunner Super Viral Core Loaded Version. Initially I thought this was a straight repack, but this one is actually a remold. On the old Gunner the guard on top could be removed to allow Shift Cars/Viral Cores to attach. The guard came off with a chunk from the center of the Gunner. This version allows the top guard part to come off, but not the chunk from the middle of the gun. It's a very loose fit for the guard which is annoying, but considering you don't need to change out shift cars or cores much I guess it isn't a big deal. 1 - Rhino Super Viral Core. A brand new Viral Core, this one is pretty large and has a blade attached to the end, it is compatible with a Break Gunner in this form as well so you can recreate the final use of this core by Kamen Rider Chaser, when he destroyed the Angel Roidmude. As far as anything new from the Chaser V-Cinema goes, Super Mashin Chaser includes it. It's a little lite on accessories, but it's totally acceptable given that he comes with everything he really needs. Final Thoughts As with the first two releases of this mold I really am in love here. Mashin Chaser was one of my favorite figuarts at the time of it's release. Not to mention the excellent Super Dead Heat Drive release of the mold. I'm always happy to own this figure again. I truly hope that Bandai eventually releases the Novel-exclusive form of Super Dead Heat Mach as well since it would be a very very easy repaint of this mold once again. But for now, S.H. Figuarts Super Mashin Chaser is a fantastic release and if you like Drive already then pick it up. And if not? What are you waiting for?! Nice Drive! |

- Break Gunner Super Viral Core Loaded Version - Compatibility with Busou/Tune Chaser |
Cool looking form from a fun little movie done right in plastic, me like.
Also, the Chaser squad is almost complete now, we only need a figure of the Proto-Zero Roidmude. |
I’m really not a fan of the gold recolor, they all look worse than the original tbh
Although some of the grit of the design is lost because of the gold colour scheme, the form still says "I'm powerful" and I'm glad that translated well
Own it and love it
I forgot this form existed. I think I forgot the movies existed, to be fair. Which is a shame, as this form looks amazing. As much as I love the original Purple and Black, gold and black makes this mold look stunning.
Mashin Chaser was such a great design. I like this suit considerably better than Kamen Rider Chaser. I just can't talk myself into picking up figures of anything that appeared this briefly, though.
This figure looks so good and I'm a big fan of the design. If the finisher was able to recreated I would've bought this as soon as possible.
This suit is pretty sexy. The black/gold/purple color scheme is a nice mix.
Ah, another piece I purchased at RangerStop, thanks to Japan Hero Collectibles.
I needed a Chase representative on my Figuarts display/Whenever I get that back up. This suit was damn cool from a damn amazing V-Cinema, the best I've ever seen. |
I was never as big a fan of the Chaser design as a lot of people seemed to be. It just looks messy. The gold on this version looks very cool though.
This is one beautiful figure. Though I still think his original form is better.
i like this design more as a monster instead of as an anti hero/hero
I usually don't like gold versjons of riders, but it kinda works here
Such an underappreciated series. This guy is SO nice.
Huh...I don't even remember Rhino from the various side movies. I'm going to have to find this movie.
Mashin Chaser is definitely my favorite Kamen Rider villain design of the last... 10 years? Love it.
I'm usually against gold repaint, but this one is quite nice. The purple actually goes well with the gold.
Hey this is my obligatory comment to enter the giveaway

With little actual context on him I can't comment too much. The gold is a bit much, but I did always like the overall silhouette of Mashinchaser.
I think I might prefer the regular Chaser colour scheme, but I'm pretty happy at how well they molded most of the Chaser toys.
I'm actually not super fond of this form, not 100% sure why, I think it's bits of purple.
It makes me feel like someone threw Garo in a blender with Kamen Rider Meteor.
The coloration and details are nice, but I am just not a fan of the design. |
I liked Mashin Chaser a lot more than Kamen Rider Chaser aesthetically, so seeing it get the Super upgrade was awesome. And as it's incredibly easy to remold into, with the love Drive has gotten in the SHF line it's no surprise this one got released.
The colors just pop so much on this figure. I love it. Particularly like the pictures of all of Chase's forms together. They look darn good together. |
Chase! I love Drive, but I don't really need this one.
I've never been a fan of Mashin Chaser, and I'm definitely not a fan of him in these colors. Regardless, it's a well executed figure. And I have to admit, he looks pretty great with the Busou chaser accessories.
Chaser in a nice black and gold color scheme looks very nice.
Seeing Super Mashin Chaser with the wings and the few shots you took of him in a flying pose really make me adore the figure a lot more than usual. It's nice to get some usage out of a feature they likely didn't intend because they were only reusing the mold but it still comes out glorious either way.
I'm still torn as to whether or not I like the overall design of Super Chaser. It's by no means terrible, I think the gold just throws me off.

Didn't remember that gold color scheme. But I kind of like it.
Liking the gold and those wings. Just love the asymmetry of the overall design.
I love this form so much! I wish it got more use then just a few minutes.
I like the look for Original Chaser and Drive's version but I'm not really digging the gold. I'm all for reusing assets but this one felt a bit shameless.
SO glad we got this release. Chaser deserves all the figures possible. Can't get enough of this design, even if my wallet is cursing me for it.
