I'm not complaining, but I can't see this as but Kyoryuger with just a different theme and collectable, and the dance just cements it. I love Kyoryuger, but my expectations for this are lowered, assuming the series to follow many more themes. Swear, if we got the villains being Deboss, then we could expect how things go immediately before it even starts.

The mecha looks amazing. The gimmicks look fun. But if they put another annoying jingle while they dance, I'm out.

Given the fact that Kyoryuger proved popular enough to stick around way longer than most recent Sentai in terms of spin-offs and specials, not surprised that the next dino Sentai may be taking some elements from it.
I adored Kyoryuger so I'm looking forward to it. |
Tyramigo looks cool. The rest are just unimpressive blocks (the heads notwithstanding) except for TigerLance. Why couldn't the other Kishiryu get legs that could stretch out?

I've realized that both Toei and Marvel/DC have the same problem with their superhero media, that being overuse of comedy. The difference is Toei's shows overdo the "wacky cartoon hijinks" and "cutesy idols" route, while American superheroes are stuck on "juvenile banter" and "use sex appeal to make you buy the strong female narrative"* *Not that the ones who complain about the last part do any better a job with their product. |
Funnily enough the thing I'm most excited for is the end dance to be back. Presumably atleast, it's only been a year but I miss the SING AND DANCE WITH US AFTER THE COMMERICIALS from Zyuoh and Go-Busters

I have feeling the Ryusou Red will be similar to Daigo or Keiichiro...

Sounds promising, and like they're prepping for anniversaries.
Do gotta love the timing though. as well as how it gently starts nudging the start dates forward. Also, seeing those designs clearer. Absolutely love them! This sentai makes me really excited for what it's going to do. |
Thoughts about the clearer toy scans:
So the collectible is the dino-head/knight. At a minimum, it looks like it's the transformation widget (the main ones,) forms the Armed-On-like power-up (the auxiliary ones,) and the head/face for each mecha configuration. Looks relatively cheap, reminiscent of Ranger Keys. Probably not spring-loaded. I'm guessing they're trying to keep the price point down? It looks like each of the five initial mecha can form a unique combination, changing the head and chest of the mecha. It'd be fair to expect lots of auxiliary mecha for even more combinations; I'm surprised we don't get a hint of that with the auxiliary widgets. The knight forms of these collectible bricks are likely, story-wise, to be the souls of previous dragon-knights. Looking more closely at the red mecha I can see the battleship part of the concept with the various turrets and attachments. It looks like we're getting a combined tank form that doesn't look awful; I wonder if it can incorporate green and black without looking stupid. As a whole, they all look less ridiculous to me than I'm used to from modern Sentai mecha. Looks like standard for Sentai: little transformation in favor of parts-swapping, but integrated better than usual. Reminds me of some of the better design points of Go-Busters. The Lego-like connectors look way better than they have any right to, and looking over just what we can see here, it seems like there are a gazillion potential combinations because each of the mecha have a lot going on, and red comes with drills and turrets that can attach in a variety of ways. Only thing I'm not sold on is how the mecha heads will look from any angle other than head-on, since they're just the reverse side of the unfolded the knight-widgets. No electronics in the mecha, which I actually kinda appreciate; the yappiness seems confined to the transformation brace and the sword. We can clearly see that they wear the latter on a hip scabbard, which I find way too exciting; I'm tired of seeing our heroes pull their weapons out of nowhere. (At least Go-Busters had a neat teleportation effect.) I've mostly broken free of my desire to own roleplay items or DX mecha - minipla work just fine for me - but this one is almost tempting because it seems to have a lot of potential as fiddling-friendly desk toy. I may like these better than the past several years of Sentai mecha. Still noticing little design details. Seems like the transformation brace requires both inserting the unfolded widget and - am I seeing this right? - flipping the jaw around so it becomes a knight helmet for the dino? |
