Thanks again for showing off your stellar figs! And, you're absolutely right about these things feeling like smaller, more bite-sized plastic kits. I've got a couple SHODO figs that should show up today, OOO and Birth, and I'm excited to mess around with them. It's just, I'm more excited about some SO-DO figs that should be showing up later this week, and it's not even characters I care that much about. (Zero-One, I show I haven't even watched yet.) I'm really looking forward to the construction part, you know? That quick, easy achievement of I Made This Little Man. It's an addictive feeling, for sure. |
Yeah, Gundam Markers are a basically a must for anyone who likes to paint finer details on kits/figures.
|
Might grab some gundam markers then to touch up my figures
|
I wish I could do stuff like that. Unfortunately, I've got manual dexterity issues. Can't seem to get my hands to make small precise movements. Something to do with being autistic apparently. I'd love to get some spares to practice on at some point though, to try and get better

Sorry for the double post by the way. Accidentally posted too early, and couldn't figure out how to edit in a multi quote |

But, man, markers on a, like, $4 figure? That does seem like a great way to practice up. I'll have to try and get some spares, too, maybe a base suit figure I'd like to see plussed out. Yeah, I think this could work! |
Yeah Gundam Markers are relatively safe too, because you can get a remover and start over easily.
I think most people would be surprised how easy it is to do detail painting. Bandai is great with molding in details allowing paint to sit in recesses. I'll try to do a guide soon. I also paint Minipla, Gashapon, and RKF figures, but SODO are by far my favorite. |

An embarrassment of tiny mans! (And, yes, I know that a group of tiny mans is generally referred to as an "Armload" of tiny mans, but a group of Armloads is usually termed an Embarrassment. Not to be pedantic!) Multiple orders showed up over the last few days: -Them two Zero-One cases showed up in just a couple days after ordering, from Amazon Japan -Those five Build boxes showed up from Mandarake -And those two SHODO guys were an eBay purchase (Of course, the Build Genius wave case I ordered from Mandarake on January 21st is still slowly making its way to me. The first thing I ordered is going to be the last to arrive.) Psyched to crack into some of these tiny mans today! |

Oh my God, they're so much smaller. I was hoping I'd be able to have SHODOs and SO-DOs mixed together, best of both worlds, but no way. It feels like trying to mix SO-DO and Figuarts. That said, these OOO ones are neat figs. The metallic paint is really cool, and they've got great presence. It's just, if I'm collecting SO-DO figs (and I am definitely collecting SO-DO figs), I just can't do a separate line, as well. The SHODO figs aren't a big enough improvement to do instead, and they don't have the variety that SO-DO does, so.... yeah, I think I'm two-and-done on SHODO. Neat figs, and no mistake, but they just don't fit with the rest of what'll be on display. |

I've already put an order in for the 2nd wave from AmiAmi. I don't know if I'll ever have a SO-DO OOO display to rival that Figuarts one from last year, but I'll try and get all the main forms and characters, those dozen or so figures. I love that gimmick too much! |

Bummed out with this tiny man, I’ve got to say. I really wanted a RabbitTank Build, and Mandarake had one, so I threw some other SO-DO figs onto an order so I could get my base suit Build. And, y’know, I have a base suit Build now. Ticked that collector box in my brain. But, boy, not a great figure. The stickers I got in these boxes felt like they’re at the end of their lifespan. They came off of the sticker sheet alarmingly easily, and the driver sticker already came off once. I’m not crazy about waiting too long to get other figs stickered, if this is how long the adhesive can/will last. The good news is, super easy to decorate. Having done a Build form change already, the stickers are mostly the same shape and go in the same spots. Mostly repetition on this one. The end result, though… a letdown. The red color used on the paint for Rabbit is all wrong, a darker matte red instead of a shiny metallic red. It looks more maroon in hand than I’d ever be happy with. The stickers on the eyes are an okay color, but they miss some of the detail on Rabbit, or it’s too light to really stand out. Worst of all (maybe worst of all, that red mismatch bugs the shit out of me) there’s no stand, despite including a sticker for a stand. What?! Which series did they start including the stands instead of some lame zero-articulation halfbody? I might use it to practice marker skills, but otherwise, I’ve got no use for this accessory, and now I'm going to have to find a stand for the figure at some point down the road. Considering the lengths I went to get this tiny man, pretty bummed out. Nice to have a representation of RabbitTank to go with other Builds, but that’s about it. https://challengerscomics.com/images...dobuildrt2.jpg https://challengerscomics.com/images...dobuildrt3.jpg |
Sorry to hear about your disappointment with Build. I wouldn't be too worried about the stickers, most of the stickers on my Build So-Do are still holding strong. If I remember correctly, the reason they included a useless half-body with each half of RabbitTank was because kids would be most likely to want that form first, but might not be able to afford both halves at once, so they could still have a somewhat complete figure with just one half. I've never really noticed it before, but you're right, the painted red is definitely off. I don't think the Dai So-Do version is any different in it's shade of red, but I can double check tomorrow

https://i.imgur.com/GCxGhFN.png Another reason why people's wallets bleed money :lolol The 6-piece set for this run goes: 1. Kamen Rider Amazon Alpha 2. Kamen Rider Amazon Omega 3. Amazon Alpha 2nd season version 4. Kamen Rider Amazon 5. Jungler Part A 6. Jungler Part B Jungler Part A and B are both required to form a complete Jungler, the bike for Kamen Rider Amazon. |

It's mostly that I thought I'd be able to skip SHODO and nope here's a gorgeous Alpha and now it's like okay maybe I just keep getting SHODOs I like and now I'm collecting another line of figs MY BRAIN IS BROKEN IT'S JUST BROKEN AND THIS IS WHY I CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS. |
I love how fantastic that Jungler looks. In general I like Shodo’s dedication to the bikes
|
Jin's probably my biggest crush in Kamen Rider, so those are very tempting indeed. I haven't bought any Shodo yet, but that might be a good starting point. It's pretty unlikely that So-Do Chronicle will touch Amazons

It's interesting that they did do Amazons given they have a huge focus on Showa, and how their latest is Blade. But, yeah, it would be hard to see So-Do cover something so... y'know. Bloody.
|
Hey would anyone be interested in doing a catch up order from mandarake on SODO figs? I feel like we'd save on shipping by order in bulk and split the shipping since they're so small. (Note: this wouldn't be immediate I just want to gauge interest)
Edit: also I have access to Zenmarket which lets me purchase yahoo auction items for a 300 yen fee so that's an option too. |

Oh, also, on the topic of SODOs, I stickered my Build Genius tonight during the NXT TakeOver. (I did not want to watch that Matt Riddle match!) That figure... Jesus. I felt like I ran a marathon after stickering that curs'd idol. I felt like I was being punished. I felt like Bandai was laughing at me. So many stickers, and they all curve around in weird ways. Getting all done and not being ashamed of it, it was like levelling up. Anyone else take a run at this monstrosity? |
Quote:
And personally, I plan on asking a friend to paint Genius and evolt for me whenever I get them, because I saw those sticker sheets and went "Nope" |

First, it's only concerned with stickering from the front, to make that all look good, so a bunch of the stickers stop in weird places. A lot of the other curving stickers, like around the legs, stop at mold lines in order to connect with other stickers, so you can pick either point of the sticker to start laying down and the other end will still line up. These, if you pick the wrong end to start with, nothing connects and there's too much sticker left over or not all the white space is filled. You need to be clairvoyant, knowing exactly where the stickers are going to go before you start laying them down. The other problem, and the one that was driving me crazy, was that one sticker might cover two or three fullbottles, so you'd need to keep tucking parts in to make sure it would all line up. Such a frustration. But, he looks good on a shelf, I think I did as well on him as I was going to, I'm not mad about it. But, that experience. |

This photo took way too long to set up, but here are all my SO-DO Ex-aid figures. A lot of them have stickerd that are falling off, but they are still decent, albeit not as good as what came after. |
Quote:
I know that SO-DOs changed the design aesthetic a bit, the figure proportions and all, but do you think the Ex-Aid figs look okay alongside Build and/or Zi-O? |
Quote:
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachmen...217_110923.jpg https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachmen...217_110941.jpg Well here are some side by sides. I think they look pretty good together if you ask me. The regular release of the Early Ex-aid riders unfortunately have a problem where they're sort of looking down all the time due to how the ball and hole for the head were cut. so that's a thing to consider. They did fix it I think by like level 5 I think. |
Quote:
As to the neck joint, I wonder if that's something that could get fixed with a bit of furniture polish? If it's just a problem of the ball being too small for the socket, if you could thicken up the ball it should provide a tighter fit and yes I hear it too. |
Quote:
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachmen...217_115820.jpg As you can see here with the Orange Might Brothers XX head's joint tilted back. Edit: the pic is upside down and I don't know why, it's right side up in the place I posted it to link to here. |
