S.H. MonsterArts - Godzilla, Gamera & more!
http://i.imgur.com/fcS97Kp.jpg
S.H. MonsterArts by Bandai Japan is the latest spinoff of the successful S.H. Figuarts action figure line. This line started with the intention to feature the giant monsters of kaiju eiga by focusing on the Godzilla series of films from the 1990s (for now), also referred to as the Heisei era films. The approx. six-inch line is giving us the monsters we love but with real articulation! The line has grown since the start of this thread to include Peter Jackson's King Kong, Alien and Predator, Gamera from Gamera 2, and of course more Godzilla characters from throughout the length of the franchise. MonsterArts Bluefin, the company licensed to release Bandai's collector lines to the United States, has made a point of emphasizing the domestic release of the SHMA toyline. Most of the standard releases are currently available on Amazon.com, as should all future "Tamashii Web" releases. Mmmm, free shipping... Oh no I'm definitely interested. As much as I love me my superhero action... men in rubber monster suits is my jam.
|
Crap, Mechagodzilla! Might buy that one and the space one if ever released.

Alright, a couple updates to note.
Tamashii.jp, Bandai's official website for all things collector-oriented, finally has a section devoted to S.H. MonsterArts: http://tamashii.jp/item/itemlist.php?pref=104 Here we see Godzilla has an official release date at last, November 19th. It's still early, so we'll probably get a date for Mechagodzilla closer to/during December. Next of course is the beautiful Spacegodzilla on the TokuNation frontpage and also reposted on TFW's own MonsterArts thread, but in such a way as to hype what's coming. :D REDACTED indeed! Finally, and a bit of bad news yet unconfirmed, is a potential delay in the release of SHMA Godzilla via Amazon.com. For a while now they'd been touting a release date of the 15th, already today my time, but supposedly orders are now getting delayed. I can't get hard confirmation yet, whether Amazon simply accepted far too many preorders and can't fill them all, this simply reflects the confirmed date of the 19th in Japan, or if something else is afoot. http://blog.livedoor.jp/hacchaka/archives/51785648.html http://d.hatena.ne.jp/type97/20111117 http://hima-toy.cocolog-nifty.com/bl...dzilla-9b.html Reviews have started to come in. I'm still impressed, but the biggest issue seen with some of the Godzillas is the eyes. They look like separate pieces installed into the head, which makes sense, and for some reason the piece they're on gets misaligned within the head. I imagine there are ways to fix this if yours suffers from this problem. |
I ordered my Godzilla from BBTS. Should be here next week. I'm poor and these dudes are expensive so it will probably be my only one but I am super psyched for a poseable Godzilla!
|
As Baltan knows, yes I'm interested. But I have no idea what these figures are like as I've been waiting since before Thanksgiving for my Godzilla to get here from Aamiami :(
|
First time posting on this site, and glad to be here.My question is which November,2011 or 2012? Im really intrested in this, and if this line does as good as figuarts....man can't wait!
|
Haha, 2011! Godzilla and Mechagodzilla, along with the exclusive G-Force military set, are already out!
Your wait has been insane, Reigner! Insane I tell you! |
Well, my effect parts set has FINALLY left japan.
Damn new years.... |
Didn't even know these were out. Just ordered the Godzilla off amazon and should have it this Friday. Can't wait!
|
Mine shipped out from AmiAmi about a week ago, I'm pumped.
I had to get some clarification when I got my shipping notice because it said they were sending me a little anime girl plushie instead of Godzilla. Fortunately, it was only a item name mix up and they confirmed that it was, in fact, Godzilla that was in the box being sent to me. |

I do want to pick up this line, as the sculpts look incredible! The Heisei Godzilla and Mechagodzilla are a nice way to introduce these figures.
|
I need to see more pics of these in peoples collections. I haven't gotten them yet but really wanted them

This is my friend's picture

Got mine a while back. My only real complain is the limited posability of his legs. But I suppose that's a limitation of the design.
Really looking forward to the Rodan, and I might get the King Ghidorah. Depends on my finances when he comes out. Also, I sincerely hope they break away from the Heisei era soon. Come on, Jet Jaguar! |

Another pic of Big G for this thread. Hoping to add Mecha G within the next week or so.
|
I want Space Godzilla
|
Have Godzilla and MechaGodzilla, still waiting on the damned effects set; why is BBTS having such a hard time getting these in?

Man, I want him so bad. He looks gorgeous. And Space Godzilla...
Bandai, no. Please. My wallet. Have mercy. |
I have made a promise to myself. Get all godzilla related products in this line. Godzilla is one of my favorite franchises and SPACEGOJIRA IS MY FAVORITE ONE!!! I CAN'T WAIT!!!
|
I wonder what the next one after Space-G will be?
Of the first 5 we saw, only MOUGEURA and Burning Godzilla are not slated for release. I'm guessing it will be MOUGEURA and Burning will eventually come as a Tamashii Web Exclusive. Of the others, they are still a ways off since most (if not all) look like hand painted Prototypes and most lack any Articulation in those photos. And IDK, but i have a feeling that Little Godzilla might be a first run Bonus with SpaceGodzilla since i can't think of any other way that could come out (Barring a 3 pack with Baby and Junior). |
Hope Little Godzilla isn't a pack-in. Both Rodan and crab Destroyah are also pretty tiny, and I wouldn't want them as pack-ins either. Plus, SpaceGodzilla has been pictured with his Corona beam and a base with protruding crystals- easily equivalent to what first run Godzilla has. If he got any other bonuses (or an effects pack) I'd want it to be Fukuoka tower :)

I received mine a few weeks ago and it's been terrorizing my desk ever since. It feels more solid than the Ultra Act Gomora I have and the quality on the figure is superb between the texture and paint work. For possibility, it can do everything the suit actor can do and more. Simply put, it's the best Godzilla figure on the market. If you like Godzilla, get this figure.
I'm waiting on Mecha Godzilla to arrive now and the Amazon Space Godizlla pre orde to go up. This line has me hooked. |
Any Mechagodzilla pics? Would love to see both of them in action on people's desks or in displays. Deciding which one to order first.

from my review |
Anyone know a place that has the effects pack actually in stock? If it's around the same price, I'm thinking about cancelling my BBTS preorder.
|
These things are so beautiful and magnificent but so out of my price range.
|
Wow...that Space-Godzilla is just......
wow....... |
He just got here yesterday but I only had time today to open and play with him. This figure looks amazing. The level of detail is by far the thing I am most impressed about. That detail however comes at a cost. This sucker is not very poseable at all save for the tail (that part is crazy posable). In fact, I can't even get the figure to look down. That being said, I am very happy with my purchase and hope to get Mecha and Space Godzillas in the future.
Now for some pics (with a King Kong stand-in for comparison). Sorry, these are iphone pics. http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/...e/IMG_0232.jpg http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/...e/IMG_0233.jpg http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/...e/IMG_0237.jpg http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/...e/IMG_0239.jpg http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/...e/IMG_0241.jpg http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/...e/IMG_0242.jpg http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/...e/IMG_0244.jpg http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/...e/IMG_0248.jpg http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/...e/IMG_0250.jpg http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/...e/IMG_0252.jpg |
My two cent opinion about these figures is that their awesome, but with some minor...really small gripes, but that bares in comparison of how cool these things are. And I'm hooked on this line.
|
My Godzilla should be here tomorrow. Just ordered my Mechagodzilla today.

For shame. |
Got Godzilla today. Loving it. My first Godzilla toys were the Trendmasters ones from the 90s. Loved them. Since then it seems they're only vinyls and gashapons. I have some of each. They are nice but not the kind of toys I really get excited about.
This dude is boss. Yeah, his articulated range is limited by the character design and sculpt, but you can get some really expressive poses out of him with a bit of patience. The upside to this is that at no point does smooth unsculpted plastic from joints show through the toy. He looks great from every angle. The atomic blast is a crazy fun accessory. I understand that if you wanted a super crazy poseable monster figure you could be disappointed. But for a Godzilla fan and a toy fan, the price point is worth it for the sculpt and the range of movement he does have. As a kid that loved Godzilla and toys but was unhappy with the vinyl and minifig selection of recent years, this is a godsend. Mechagodzilla gets here tomorrow. I'm broke now so I will probably be passing on Space Godzilla. He was never one of my favorite so I don't mind. I will be totally pleased when the future brings me a King Ghidora and a 1954 Gojira. While finances will most likely force me to pass on the majority of this line if I get those two in the future I will be 100% happy. http://i1106.photobucket.com/albums/...p/b678ecd0.jpg |
Awesome pic!
|
Space Godzilla is my favorite thing ever and may be the only thing I get from the line for a while just due to how much it costs. But goddamn I'll love him with all my heart.
That said, I'll need to jump on it as soon as he's on Amazon. |
Mechagodzilla is here.
Mini Review! Good: He is NICE. He looks great. The proportions and scale both seem spot on b/w him and Godzilla. He has a broader range of motion in the arms legs and midsection than Godzilla due to the robotic design being less limiting. He has some die cast parts which are nice as well. They visually matched the plastic perfectly. They add some nice heft to those areas. He has an extra set of hands, base, stand and energy beam, alternate midsection for his grenade weapon, and an alternate neck to allow for flying pose. Not super good: He feel imbalanced. His metal parts are nice and solid but his plastic parts feel hollow and flimsy. The added weight from the die cast parts drags down on the plastic parts, leaving him with some looser articulation in the hips. I much prefer Godzilla's solid chunky feel. Also, because of this, swapping parts is SCARY. I haven't had anything break but its pretty scary hearing that plastic snap every time you swap anything. I feel I could give Godzilla to a kid and as worst something pops off a ball and you pop it back in. Mecha-G I would be afraid of breakage. The posts on the wrist joint for swapping hands are tiny and thin. The tail and neck have no real articulation points so there is not a lot of play. They snap in and out harshly. Also, while his arms and legs have a better range of motion than G, his neck is only a swivel at the head witha little play in the lower neck and his tail is static. The tail is supposed to be static so I don't mind, but I would have gladly given up a little bit of accuracy in the detail behind his neck to allow for some vertical movement. He can pretty much only shoot his beam at a downward angle unless you lean him really far back. Again, I like MechaG and if this is your favorite kaiju, he's probably the best version out there. I am a Godzilla fan though, so either way I would like him better. But even given his limited range of movement, I think the regular Godzilla is a better toy, as far as being able to comfortable play with him. If you plan on picking a pose and displaying them they are almost even, with MechaG coming out a head due to more range of movement and more accessories. Wish he was priced closer to 60, or his plastic parts were solid. I will most likely be sitting out Space Godzilla, though I expect him to be more similar to Godzilla in his build quality and range of movement. http://i1106.photobucket.com/albums/...p/91eca657.jpg |
