S.H. Figuarts Hakaider Gallery
40 Attachment(s)
TokuNation is back with another review of a classic character. It's time for us to take a look at a recent Tamashii Web Exclusive, none other than the Nemesis of Android Kikaider, S.H. Figuarts Hakaider! Released as a companion piece to the recent S.H. Figuarts Kikaider, This evil android was actually created by Dr. Komyoji to destory Kikaider under coercion from Professor Gill & DARK. Though Komoyoji built the Android known as Saburo his brain would later be implanted into by Professor Gill, thus creating the character we all know. At one point Hakaider actually was Professor Gill as well but this figure primarily represents the first Hakaider, Saburo.
Packaging As a companion piece to Kikaider S.H. Figuarts Hakaider features the same wonderful style of minimalistic packaging art. As with Kikaider it's a unique slim style box that's nowhere near the normal dimensions of SHF boxes. Just as Kikaider's does, it looks fantastic. Main Figure After the extensive wait endured by many for an S.H.Figuarts Kikaider, a beloved hero by Japanese and western fans alike, the turn around to get his arch nemesis was comparatively quick. But first things first, S.H. Figuarts Hakaider is definitely a step up in quality from Kikaider. Where Kikaider seemed to be plagued with QC issues both minor & major for many collectors, Hakaider has surprisingly few issues. As many recent sentai & rider S.H.Figuarts releases have done, Hakaider features gorgeously sculpted in "fabric" details. The real suit was a bit of a leathery vinyl material and while that kind of look can't be entirely replicated in plastic, this is an excellent attempt to do so. Since Hakaider's primarily black as well there aren't very many paint apps to worry about, but what's there is done just right. A few small inconsistencies exist in the yellow apps on mine. The real excellence of this figure is all in the head though. Not only is Hakaider's brain sculpted beautifully, the electrical wires are painted as well, and the skull cap is removable! And the brain is too! That's right, Hakaider's brain is entirely removable to replicate any and all wacky mad doctor scenarios you wish! Such as I have below. This is an incredible bonus feature of the figures design. Meanwhile the other incredible bonus of how the head is designed is that Hakaiders' eyes have incredible light piping. Since the skull cap is open and clear his eyes capture a ton of light and almost appear to glow. Perhaps the only complaint I can levy against the figure is the shoulder design. Though the shoulder pads are accurate to the suit, they are molded as one gigantic piece that stretches across the chest. It can angle upward somewhat on either side to give the arms a bit more room, but ultimately this shoulder/chest piece hybrid interferes with the arms movement a bit. Otherwise this figure is pretty excellent and a wonderful companion/rival piece to Kikaider that greatly exceeds Kikaiders quality. Accessories As with Kikaider, S.H. Figuarts Hakaider is a little lite on the accessories. But it's definitely a better selection: 3 - full sets of extra hands. Complete with an expressive hey I'm pointing at you hand which I always love to see. 1 - Hakaider Shot handgun. A beautiful silver chromed handgun that's as comedically long as it is in the show. It looks like something the Joker would be packing except Hakaider's gun is deadly and awesome. The next accessory is directly tied to the gun. 1 - replacement shin. This shin can be attached to by removing the previous one at the knee and ankle joints. The advantage of this one is that it has a built in holster for the Hakaider Shot. I love that this is included but my Hakaider is almost always holding the Shot so it's just a bonus to me. But a welcome bonus none the less. This selection of accessories including plenty of useful expressive hands, a nice side arm, and a leg section replacement catapult this release well beyond Kikaider's limited accessory count. Final Thoughts As the second release in this line from Jinzo Ningen Kikaider Hakaider didn't have a very high bar to surpass. But I think we all hoped for Hakaider to be better than Kikaider anyway. And indeed he is. While the sculpt and paint apps may not be as dynamic as Kikaider, the personality, functionality, and accessory count of S.H. Figuarts Hakaider put him far above his predecessor. Hakaider isn't just a wonderful addition to a fledgling Kikaider collection, but also to your toku villains collections in general. And I eagerly await the next releases in the Kikaider line of S.H.Figuarts, the next couple being Kikaider's Side Machine & Hakaider's White Crow! |

And a few additional images!

I've only seen Hakaider twice. First time was on Kikaider the animation and second was the Gaim crossover. Definitely loved him in Kikaider the animation because he's voiced by Steve "motherf**king" Blum. :lol
He's neat, but... really not my cup of tea.

Now they are going to be making Hakaider Reboot in the near future as we've seen. But the absolute best version is the Mechanical Violator Hakaider. |
I really love the removable brain on him, it really is a nice touch to him.
Yeah, I love the removable brain. On a different note, this looks like a good figure, but I can't get myself to like the design.
Ah man, I love 'em! I don't know much about Kikaider, but I like the designs. And heck, exposed brains on robots are always cool. The simple-looking gun is also a plus. I may have to pick this one up!
I love the goofy mushy brain clearly modelled after the old prop
Nice figure and he has a removable brain?
OH that is AWESOME. |
I really like the design I dunno I just like old 70 looking shits
I absolutely love how the brain is removable.
I don't know, maybe they should have given him an alternate chest/shoulder bit like they do with some of the Ultra-Act figures so they don't get in the way of his arms.
He looks great though. |
Removable brain? Yes, please! Though, I do have to ask...what's with the extra shin?
One of my all time favorite Toku villains! Yess!
One shin has the shot's holster but the other doesn't, I think.
Overall, a pretty good-looking figure. I'm not that fond of Hakaider's design but the figure captures it well and the removable brain is a really fun addition. I wonder if you could get it balanced on top of Duke's head, give the guy a little payback for that crossover episode? |
looks awesome! I have yet watch the series, and will watch it one of these days!!
Man Den-O you really make me regret not getting one with these shots :D
They eyes with the open brain look gorgeous. I really hope they do Hakaider REBOOT to go along with the Kikaider they showed at the event, because that would be a must-have for me. And a good excuse for not getting this. Oh well, maybe I find it for a good price somewhere. |
Oh god, that shot without the brain is golden. How can you display him with the brain after that?
Looks nice! Still regretting not getting one :\
So is this guy part of Kamen Rider or is he a metal hero? Cause being able to remove the brain seems like something a robot can do. I have limited knowledge on metal heroes and riders

This is best Hakaider - both in terms of design and character :D the Violator and REBOOT versions have their merits, but nothing quite beats this one for me. The best thing about this figure is that despite being relatively simple, it gets absolutely everything right. In terms of sculpt and execution its pretty standard as far as Figuarts go (so, nothing really in comparison to the Ryuki, Blade or Gaim guys) but is ridiculously fun to mess around with just looks awesome in any pose. One of my favourite figures this year for sure. So much that I'd buy it another four times if they repaint it into the Kikaider 01 Hakaider Squad. |
hmm neat
Dat chrome gun tho, seriously though I like the older designs of Kikaider.
I'm not really fond of the Kikaider aesthetics, but Hakaider certainly looks like a much better figure than Kikaider himself was. The sculpt is impressive, and I really like the functionality of the removable brain. That gun is really cool too, I'm almost tempted to get this guy just to have that!

Onto my thoughts about Saburo: I'm glad the quality of the build has improved and having a replacement shin is neat if you don't want the figure holding the gun all the time. I do worry about losing the brain since it can be removed but overall he's certainly head and odd shoulders above Kikader. Bonus props for using Duke is this gallery too. |
As mush as I dislike the original Hakaider design (mostly the stupid "grin"), that removable brain thing is a nice touch. Maybe I'll get a reboot Hakaider if the ever make one.
He looks good...though to be fair I'd rather just got for the old RAH of him and save a lot of money. Now if this was the Mechanical Violator version though I'd grab it like Pooh Bear grabs honey.
I think the figure looks really nice and I like the image of AC Duke having Hakaider's brain in his hands.
Heys its Doctor Ryouma! Or uh... That other guy! Hakaider has a weird design to me, but compare it to Kakaider and they both look good together.
I have yet to open mine since I am waiting on white crow, but dang, you gotta love those classic toku suits. for some reason I just love the classic suit designs. they need to make a kikaider/hakaider game where you can play as either guy.
This guy's neat, and I liked hs desing and appearance in the Gaim crossover well enough. But the removal brain is really off the wall. Not that I mind :)
I find the molded in fabric folds to be much better looking than the RX revival figures with the weird padding creases molded in. I know they're trying to capture the look of the suit perfectly.. but the creases were just going a little too far. Like you're getting a figure of a guy in a suit instead of a character
Oh man, this awesome. Would love to have he and Kikaida duking it out on the shelf.
The design is incredible, even if it has a goofy concept. S well executed.
Gaim crossover and badass bike, I need one |
i love the fact that they did the molded in "fabric" and the fact that the brain can be removed, brings this from a Possible buy, to a near future purchase.
Looks nice. I kinda want one surprisingly.
I've never seen any incarnation of Kikaider (except the Gaim crossover), but I'm really fond of both the Hakaider figure and Kikaider. I hadn't realize his brain popped out. That's crazy awesome. Absolutely worth the price.
He certainly looks evil
The design isn't my style, but the figure certainly looks sharp.
