In this show demons are not otherworldly satanic beings but 'inner demons' that manifest from people's negativity. For Vice to be the only demon in the show that can talk (so far anyway), he might be a really 'advanced demon' (for lack a better term) that might have matured more than a regular Deadmans (which, interestingly, Vice did not turn into when he manifested in the real world). So Vice seemingly blurting out Ikki's unfiltered thoughts is incredibly interesting. It's almost as if Vice is a split personality that Ikki unconsciously developed to deal with his bad emotions; he did give up his dream of being a soccer player for the sake of his family's bathhouse after all, who knows what else he might have given up.
On that note, we already know that Daiji will become a secondary rider, and we've seen that he's prideful so that trait might be foreshadowing the presence of his own demon; we've already seen his self-loathing at being 'weak' and Ikki turning into Revice instead of him does not help at all, possibly allowing for further maturation of his inner demon? I dunno, but this does give credence to my theory that Deadmans are just immature demons while actual demons are those that have fed off their host's negativity for longer periods of time. This makes me wonder if Ikki will at some point accept his bad feelings and instead of ignoring them, acknowledge them and move on; to attempt to improve so that he can mature as a person. I have no actual certain way of knowing if this would happen, but if this actually does happen, it would be cool to see if this results in Revi and Vice merging together for the final form; as Ikki accepts his negative feeling and resolve to move on (this IS a kids show so I expect them to say something like 'negativity is a part of life but what matters is moving on in life' or something along those lines), this resolve is reflected in the final form for an actual 'Kamen Rider Revice'. I know that in the Saber production details, they said that contrary to Heisei's 'everything-into-one' concept of final forms, Reiwa's approach to them would be 'base form but upgraded', and honestly the idea of Revi and Vice merging into Revice seems to fall under that. Well, this is all just pure speculation anyways without any actual way of knowing if this will happen, but it would be pretty cool if it did! |

Yeah that was basically my speculation on Vice's intelligence as well. The Deadmans are like walking concepts, they're the devils that exist in people's hearts and unleashed willingly in to the world by those people with the desire to rampage, so the Deadmans' will is just an extension of their hosts. But Ikki wants to keep his devil locked away, dissociating with that part of himself and therefore giving it its own identity as Vice.

Are there any interpretations out there as to why they chose to pair which animal with which legend Rider?

I think with this episode helped me finally get a decent grasp on what this show’s angle is and I rather like it. Focusing on how people repress themselves so that they can be presented as how they ideally want to be viewed by others and society, resulting in their inner demons manifesting? I really like that and think it will prove fascinating, especially with a character like Ikki as the protagonist, who perhaps isn’t as happy as he would like to pretend he is. It seems like a good theme for the show to tackle, very topical.
As fir Vice, I rather enjoy the little bundle of id, and think he has a lot of potential to have a very satisfying character arc. |
Ikki and Vice kinda remind me of Eiji and Ankh's relationship (initially) where one is fully aware that he's being used by the other, but is clever enough to force him to play nice.

I question how Daiji will obtain his inner demon.
After being unable to wear the Revice Driver, he just couldn't handle it due to his hesitation. He'll need a certain motivation to keep him going in order to shake off that burden. Showing resentment towards Ikki, it's only a matter of time. He'll be going to Vergil's path in his desire for power in order to match up with his brother and will be giving into his negativity that will allow him to unveil the demon within him. |
