GrandComplete watches Legend Heroes
Hello Tokunation! My name is GrandComplete and I was inspired by both Kamen Rider Die's various Heisei Rider watch throughs and Fish Sandwitches excellent anaysis in his rewatch of Kamen Rider Kuuga. So I decided to take a crack at it. But what to watch? Well truthfully I wanted to get out of my comfort zone and watch some lesser known toku shows outside of the big three. And I decided why not Legend Heroes? It so accessible that you'd have to come up with excuse to not at least try the first episode. It free on Youtube for goodness sake! All 50 episodes subbed in 6 different languages as well as being 1080p HD! That what really sold me to try it.
But first a bit background info Legend Hero is a joint Korean and Chinese Tokusatsu show that aired on March 2, 2016 - August 18, 2016. Produced by MoonWatcher and Synergy Media. Whose only other venture into Tokusatsu is the cancelled SFX Fantasy Rayforce SFX Fantasy Rayforce Though I've heard that elements from the canceled show was later put into Legend Hero. Written by Ji Hansol and Kim Hyunhee(No relation to the KPOP star and the North Korean Agent). The show Chinese element is also intreasting as the shows toys were produced by China. And everything else was made in Korea. This brings us to how the show was distrubted in China. China Film Animation dubbed the show in Mandarin and renamed it Dream of Three Kingdoms (梦想三国 Mèng Xiǎng Sān Guó). Once the show finished airing China Film Animation would do an adaptatian called Legend Hero (群英传奇 Qún Yīng Chuán Q* ) in the same vein as Power Rangers dubbing over the fights scene with brand new dialouge and new Chinese actors in the non fight scenes. I think I've rambled long enough. And thank you for sticking with me this entire time. If you notice any grammer errors please don't hesitate to point them out. I can't wait for you to experience the show with me! |
Oh, very cool! This sounds like it's going to be fun. Thanks for deciding to share your thoughts on this show, and I hope you have a blast with it!
|
Oh man, totally free on YT? Count me in. I'll definitely try to keep up on my days off from work!
|
Yaaay more people watching stuff and talking about stuff! "Subbed in a ton of languages officially on YouTube" is definitely a great selling point, too. I can't promise to totally keep up with this thread, but I'll definitely try to give at least the first few episodes a shot. Either way, I'm rooting for you! I'm always happy to see people bringing attention to shows that are obscure even within the already niche tokusatsu fandom.

Episode 1 "The Birth of Legend Heroes"
And here we go. The 1st episode starts with a bang. With the universes creation and Heroes fighting amongst themselves for dominance. And in scene I swear was lifted straight out of Decade with our main protag dreaming of these Heroes fighting and eventually being destroyed by a lone shadowy figure. https://i.redd.it/qr2zrpfj7cn51.jpg https://i.redd.it/t23re7as7cn51.jpg https://i.redd.it/u24dfdoz7cn51.jpg https://i.redd.it/m4rezpa78cn51.jpg After that where introduce to our protag properly he is Liu Bei as he's comedically beaten up by his best friend Gongsun Zang for sleeping in. Cue cleaning montage as we see they run a dojo. https://i.redd.it/f4ms20i3acn51.jpg Up next we meet a very energetic girl in white who clearly not from around here. After shenanigans ensuing with the girl not knowing about how the human world and thus basically stealing some clothes. Liu steps in to desclate things but turns out despite being the Heir to a Dojo he kind of sucks at fighting. https://i.redd.it/w8jt2x6kacn51.jpg Well in the end things worked out and by revealing his name to the girl that get her to give Liu a Changer and a slot saying that her name is Xu Shu and that she an angel that'll grant wishes. And apparantly despite the show so far revolving around the creation of the universe and martial arts and having an "angel" she's surprisingly techy refering to a "Mother Computer" and well doing this ... https://i.redd.it/d0anpn8sacn51.jpg Were then introduce to another character He Jin who's bitter at Liu Bei being chosen as the next heir so bullies him into submission. After getting beat up Liu wishes onto the Slot and Changer to be stronger and the slot transforming into this little guy https://i.redd.it/5n758st8bcn51.jpg His named Guan Yu and after "granting" his wish he forms a contract with Liu Bei. After trying again to fight back against He Jin and losing again we get a nice parralel to an earlier scene I didn't mention and after being contacted Xu Shu he decides to terminate the contract causing Guan Yu to revert back to being an inanimate object. All the while He Jin watches all of this. The next day Liu is out waiting for Xu Shu to return the Changer when He Jin shows up with his own changer and transforms into a Legend Hero. https://i.redd.it/q6rkowopbcn51.jpg And after beating up Liu Bei for awhile Guan Yu suddenly returns despite the contract being broken and seeing him take the blow for him the Changer resonates with Liu and he transforms. https://i.redd.it/5n4z267wbcn51.jpg And gotta say I love how the transformatian in initiated. Doing a Kung Fu bow with the hands that we actually see quite a bit before really blending the kung fu background into it. After a fight scene Liu beats Hei Jin with a sword finisher. Which I'm a little dissapointed by simply being that the show has been mostly about hand to hand fighting for Liu so a sword just feels a little out of place. Anyways having to bring it up the subs are pretty good for the most part but there some grammer mistakes. The biggest one being this https://i.redd.it/71scaqq2ccn51.jpg Yeah I don't know a lick of Korean so I just hope that just a minor error that fixed later on. And the episode just ends very abruptly Liu beats Hei but he dosen't de-transform neither does Liu once the action ends the episode ends no post transformation reaction, no end credits it just ended. But as overall? It a good first impersion the shows sets up with alot at least 12 Legend Heroes in the flash backs, 5-6 mechs, a rivalry between Hei and Liu and the mystery of the tech angels and that not even counting the fact that there probably going to be monsters introduced later on. But anyways what are your thoughts on the first episode. And about my writing this is my first time so constructive critcism is always appeeciated. |

So, right away, the thing I loved most about that premiere was how unafraid it was to make Liu Bei look utterly pathetic. He gets hit on the head at least what? Half a dozen times? It's a real risk for the story to take because it gives the audience a hero they can't look up to, and yet, it's a brilliant choice because it gives them a hero they can relate to. For me, at least, it definitely got me excited about the idea of seeing this guy grow into something greater over the course of the series. I thought it was a really fun 24 minutes!

- Many languages took a while to develop a true distinction between the colors we call blue and green. - The fictionalized portrayal of the historical Guan Yu in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, clearly an influence on this series, wielded a weapon known as the Green Dragon Crescent Blade, written with a character for green that could just as easily mean blue (靑). - I'm going to go ahead and assume that weapon was itself named in reference to what's commonly known in English as the Azure Dragon, a figure in Chinese mythology who has long suffered from this exact color-related identity crisis. So, despite not visibly matching what's on the screen, the choice of subtitle here could very well be considered correct in a technical sense. |

I'm glad your enjoying the show with me! The episode 2 write up should come soonish? So look forward to that. |
Aaaaaaahhhh the first episode is so good. Man, I get the feeling this show's gonna be a blast.

Episode 2 "Gun-Shi-Il-Che! Liu Bei and Guan Yun!"
Episode 2 immediately picks up where the last one left off. With Hei Jin defeated and this time seeing him get knocked out his transformation. Xu Shu shows up and we get some more info on the Dream Battle. The Legend Heroes are supposed to duke it out and the last one standing gets their wishes granted. Very Ryuki-esque but that not all the winner’s Hero Piece actually gets to become a human as well! I like this because the Hero Pieces are going to be their own characters in their own right so giving them a stake in battle also feels organic to the story. Liu Bei is naturally very put off by this whole battling thing and he almost cancels the contract again. But upon learning about how Guan Yun goes back to being an inanimate object decides to continue the fight. This brings up the fact that the people can just quit being Legend Heroes. Though I have my suspension that there is more to this than meets the eye. Especially what we see at the end of the episode. The next scene is honestly a great continuation of one from the previous episode as Guan Yun proclaims that he should use his knife for cooking and fighting after tasting his delicious meal. I just want to highlight this scene. https://i.redd.it/p2xb5x66afn51.jpg Liu Bei takes his new powers really well and goes into what I can only describe as pulling a Gaim as we see Liu Bei transform to help with everyday activities and unlike Kouta he actually does pretty well. https://i.redd.it/64gk86ssafn51.jpg https://i.redd.it/eprv0c7zafn51.jpg https://i.redd.it/6tzinkh5bfn51.jpg But Liu Bei is pretty tired afterwards and that’s when Hei Jin strikes this time with an upgrade his mace is now a flail. Which brings up how exactly do Legend Heroes upgrade themselves? Ah well questions for another day. Still this time Hei Jin actually manages to win. Well obviously Liu Bei can’t just take this lying so he focuses all his time on training. https://i.redd.it/fkehq4zjcfn51.jpg Cue granting montage with Gongsun Zan. The next day we see Liu Bei walk past a couple of guys he helped yesterday and after much struggle he ultimately decides to reserve his strength for when he fights. But Liu Bei jumps into action once he hears some kids screaming from being stuck on a broken Ferris wheel. Which I gotta say was pretty suspicious and I’m immediately proven correct as Hei Jin shows up beating Liu Bei up proclaiming that he was the one who broke the Ferris wheel all to make Liu Bei transform and exhaust himself. And with righteous anger Liu Bei and Guan Yun push past limitations and transform and fight. Also the kids that Liu Bei saved cheers him on which helps him regain his energy. And mange’s to finally beat Hei Jin but it not over yet as Hei Jin activates Final Battle and the city is put into a dome that freezes time and two engage first in 2v2 vehicle fight before turning into a mech fight. Guan Yin explains that the Final Battle is used using the last of a Legend Heroes power so I think it isn't going to be like Sentai requiring a mech every episode maybe once every 2-3 episodes. https://i.redd.it/srvjafvddfn51.jpg https://i.redd.it/j0wyqsekdfn51.jpg https://i.redd.it/9wtrsd9sdfn51.jpg After the battle is one Liu Bei decides he is going to help people as himself while saving his energy for the dream being a nice balance between his sense of justice and his duty. We see that Hei Jin Hero Piece is turned into stone as well as his Changer being destroyed and an image of Hei Jin and an elderly woman holding a trophy from into the sky before breaking like glass. I got 2 theories for this theory 1 that was a memory which drove him into being a Legend Hero in the first place and with his loss the memory is destroyed/never happened. Theory 2 is that was a reality in which Hei Jin won the dream battle and had his wish granted with his charger destroyed it no longer a possibility. https://i.redd.it/a6lkwnn5efn51.jpg We then see 7 tech-angels announcing that the first Legend Hero has been defeated confused by how such a weak looking person could do it. With Xu Shu looking quite happy ending the episode https://i.redd.it/mq0msiicefn51.jpg As for final thoughts? Episode 2 is a breather having Liu Bei adjusting to his new role as Legend Heroes as well show off his heroicness. We also establish the Dream Battle as competition as well as the Final Battle mechs and deepening the mystery with the 7 angels and what happenss if you lose. |

"Tiny medal robot is supposed to help a bit of a loser overcome a bunch of other armored fighters, but dude just wants to duck and hide even if it means forgetting his dreams" It was just really nice seeing him overcome that, even if it happened really quickly. |

The giant robot battle was also endearing in how amateurish it honestly was? It's mostly the set, I mean. Between the lights being on way too bright and the glaringly fake sky painted on what is too obviously just a wall, you could really tell how cramped it is. But like, I'm not watching this show for the realism, so if anything it adds to the experience? |
I finally got around to watching the first two episodes!
And gotta say, atleast so far, this show is basically what I think Kamen Rider Dragon Knight should have been like. But that's a whole 'nother discussion. When it comes to these episodes, I gotta say, they did a great job at making Liu Bei likeable. He's such a wimpy dork that he's adorable! His actor does great with physical comedy too. So yeah, not too much to say right now considering the show did just start, but I am having alot of fun watching it right now. Really looking forward to episode 3 just based on the episode alone, as Zheng Fei/Cho Hi is almost always my favorite character when it comes to Three Kingdoms inspired works. |
Hey guys sorry about the wait. I have the next two episode written I didn't expect it to take so long but here it is.
Episode 3 "Matchless Zhang Fei" Episode 3 shows just exactly what happens once you lose a Dream Battle. With Hei Jin quitting the dojo and leaving town. Guan Yu explains that should you lose your dream will become forfeit and you lose your memories of ever being a Legend Hero. https://i.redd.it/3pi8klv148o51.jpg Naturally Liu Bei is quite upset at this but never mind that we have a new character to introduce. This is Miu Zhu and his gang the “Miu Zhu Brothers” after getting rejected by Gongsun Zan trying to woo her one of the Tech Angels show up with a Hero Piece Zhang Fei. https://i.redd.it/qcfb44aw48o51.jpg https://i.redd.it/4rrvyua258o51.jpg https://i.redd.it/4gsoryg758o51.jpg Liu Bei is questioning if there is a way to avoid fighting all together. Guan Yu then senses a powerful Legend Hero. And it's Miu Zhu going around just causing a ruckus Liu Bei transforms to face him off. In the end Liu Bei gains the upper hand but hesitates at the last minute not wanting to destroy the guy's dream. Due to some misunderstanding Miu Zhu thought the Legend Hero was actually Gongsun Zan! https://i.redd.it/0zi8boam58o51.jpg Lei Biu decides to pretend to be her in order to trick Miu Zhu into straightening his act. Cue awkward helping montage! https://i.redd.it/n7n8ns6a68o51.jpg https://i.redd.it/p2b2bgbj68o51.jpg https://i.redd.it/zyg2jo8o68o51.jpg In the end it fails and the two fight it out leading to a mech with Guan Yu noting Mi Zhu and Zhang Fei aren’t bonding as they should be. And I like this because with so many different players involved it makes sense for a few of the Legend Heroes to butt heads with their hero piece. https://i.redd.it/wu5mkzml78o51.jpg https://i.redd.it/73uusz6r78o51.jpg https://i.redd.it/1juskk4x78o51.jpg https://i.redd.it/a50l3o9388o51.jpg https://i.redd.it/al2ppieb88o51.jpg The episode ends with Liu Bei going up to destroy Miu Zhu Changer. Ending episode 3 and I like the internal conflict with Liu Bei losing his focus because of accidentally destroying He Jin’s dream. And how that affected his physical performance. As for Mi Zhu, he is alright. I know that Liu Bei ain’t going to destroy his Changer so maybe they can become a duo? Well I will just have to watch the next episode to find out. Episode 4 "Path of the Peach Garden" Episode 4 starts with Liu Bei sparing Mi Zhu and retreating with one of his cronies overhearing how Liu Bei just can’t go through with destroying another person's dream so easily. Mi Zhu decides to then harass a cafe and start stealing food all for “world domination” which Zhang Fei actually seems to be reluctant to do. Eventually Guan Yu senses this and tells Liu Bei confronts them once again. Liu Bei during the fight gets injured protecting a bystander and starts getting wailed on by Mi Zhu only for Zhang Fei to interfere calling the battle off. Zhang Fei is a warrior and he doesn’t want to fight like this. After comically fighting one another ultimately Zhang Fei is gagged up and forced into the transformation. https://i.redd.it/ttsdlpb398o51.jpg Anyways Mi Zhu attacks Liu Bei in the dojo and as he’s getting the upper hand the guy springs up a phony sob story until Zhang Fei shuts it down having enough. They engage in one last mech fight before Liu Bei wins. But before Mi Zhu forgets his dream Liu Bei earnestly asks what his dream is stating that he might put into consideration to which it is just him wanting a girlfriend. https://i.redd.it/1ab2surh98o51.jpg So yeah Liu Bei doesn’t really feel any guilt this time but what he is sad for is Zhang Fei's death only for Xu Shu to come in and revealed that a Legend Hero can multiple contracts though with a price. That Liu Bei ignores in favor of saving Zhang Fei and thus Guan Yu has a new “little brother” and honestly I’m digging this family dynamic there going on. https://i.redd.it/2oi5k154a8o51.jpg All the while a creepy cat themed Legend Hero is watching stating Liu Bei won’t last long now that he has multiple Hero Pieces. https://i.redd.it/s8r07idba8o51.jpg Episode 4 was great at building up Zhang Fei as a character and not just a mindless piece. I also like that there was no hang up from Liu Bei destroying Mi Zhu dream as honestly he was a scumbag and his dream was pretty terrible. I think this kind of situational awareness is great and should cut down on some of the drama and angst. Also curious about the cost of having multiple contracts. My best guess is that the Hero Pieces fun on their masters energy so having multiple taxes the body. I’m also curious on how Liu Bei is going to use Zhang Fei. Will he transform into said legend hero ala Decade? Or will he gain an armor/new form like Zi-O? |

Good to see someone else getting into my favorite Toku. Criminally underrated.
A couple of notes. While I'm not familiar with the source material, this whole things is apparently based on the Romance of the Three Kingdoms. To the point where you can guess some plot developments if you know the original. Marcosatsu did a review of this explaining this all. Don't watch it until you are done though. The other note is that this show plays a lot with the idea of dreams and how they affect a person. With the first two episodes, we saw that a bad person can do bad things in pursuit of a dream that is in itself good, while these latest two showed us a person driven to be bad by a dream that is by its very nature bad to. We will continue to see other variations of this theme throughout, so I won't expand further. In this, it is similar to Kamen Rider OOO, although it takes a different spin on things. |

All these weirdoes in colorful costumes fighting is a novelty, but it's only when you take advantage of that setup to tell an interesting story that you get something truly worthwhile. You need all these different characters to complement each other, giving them unique personalities and dynamics where exploring the new characters in turn further informs the audience on the established ones, almost like they're acting as... well, mirrors, I guess. Huh. Anyway, I think they totally nailed that with Mi Zhu and Zhang Fei. Their comic antics in the first part were hilarious for how mundane the things they were having the characters do while transformed were, but the second part ends up doing a great job drawing a contrast between their barely functional relationship and Liu Bei and Guan Yu's mutually supportive camaraderie, demonstrating the value of the latter by showing (and not telling!) how unproductive Mi Zhu's selfish arrogance is. I think that's my main takeaway from the series overall so far. It's very lighthearted and fun, but every single one of these four episodes also had a surprisingly well-constructed narrative behind it that gives things enough weight to where I can also feel invested in what's happening. It's striking a fantastic balance, and if anyone is just reading through this thread out of curiosity without giving the show itself a chance, I'll say it right now — this is a train worth hopping on. |
You know, I'm gonna try to keep up with this thread.
I absolutely loved this show, and I honestly love some of the things they do later on. The mechs are cheap, but I don't mind as much as I used to. And that family dynamic, Fish and Grand? You're gonna love this show to pieces, both of ya. |

I watched episodes 3 and 4!
I said earlier that in Three Kingdoms inspired works, Zheng Fei and characters associated with him tend to be my favorite, and that still kinda rang true here. The Mi Zhu brothers were absolutely hilarious with their antics, and I liked the arc of Mi Zhu starting off doing things that, while certainly annoying, were ultimately petty, only for the power to go to his head and start doing worse things. I also like the gimmick of our hero being able to gain further power sets as battles continue to be won. That said, given the overall story of Romance of the Three Kingdoms, I imagine he'll only get one, possibly two more, though I won't say who to avoid possible spoilers. Lastly, the cat warrior on the roof at the end of episode 4 had me rolling with just how totally random it was! And I think that's the thing I'm appreciating the most about this show so far: That it's not afraid to have fun with itself while still making an actual story. It's kinda like if Kamen Rider Ryuki were a season of Power Rangers, and I'm all for that! |
Hey guys still alive here look I'll frank I'm not quittng with Legend Heroes just been a really overwhelming month will get right back on it eventually sorry for the radio silence and Happy almost Halloween

Episode 5 "True Successor"
Wow it's a Christmas miracle y’all! I’m back sorry this took so long and If anyone wants a reason for why I was gone so long well... https://youtube.com/watch?v=5ivIKhR8wrE I kid the real reason is simple burnout from being unused to doing these types of things and putting way too much on my plate juggling multiple shows at once. With that I’m back and hopefully on a more consistent schedule. So we return with the mysterious cyber angel group with what seems to be the overall leader plotting something against Liu Bei. https://i.redd.it/zrwckkjtzg761.jpg As we cut to more shenanigans with the Hero Pieces eventually Gongsun Zan comes to berate Liu Bei in slacking off and letting the dojo fall to the wayside. As Liu Bei is hanging up posters he is confronted by the cat Legend Hero his name is Hua Tuo. His main weapon is acupuncture needles that makes the opponent’s body go numb. https://i.redd.it/f65rkao10h761.jpg Wanting to take Liu Bei Hero Pisces for himself. Claiming that Liu Bei is too weak to give them the amount of energy needed. Hua Tuo leaves and we cut back to the dojo and we see Mater Lu Zhi has returned. 1https://i.redd.it/wywbvk590h761.jpg And with his return he wants a proper heir and that the other must leave. And so a contest is formed to decide out of the two who would become the heir. Liu Bei wants to just let her be the master and he’ll just learn under her. But Gongsun finds this notion disrespectful to Do-Wan-Kwan. In the ensuing contest the Hero Pieces misguidedly decided to help Liu Bei by cheating. With Gongsun catching them but of course Master Lu Zhu doesn’t believe that. https://i.redd.it/gsb14zsf0h761.jpg Gongsun storms off and runs into the red tech angel with Hero Piece in his hands… https://i.redd.it/qftblxbt0h761.jpg https://i.redd.it/fijj8zrb2h761.jpg Later on Liu Bei is attacked by a new Legend Hero in cyan with a Unicorn motif. They battle but it is clear that this new one is quite skilled. https://i.redd.it/lqtg9vhj2h761.jpg https://i.redd.it/usftpmss2h761.jpg The pair go into a final fight with the battle ending in a draw revealing the new Legend Hero to be Gongsun. https://youtube.com/watch?v=kdhhQhqi_AE https://i.redd.it/zpwrdb3y2h761.jpg https://i.redd.it/mqnje8a33h761.jpg https://i.redd.it/tcwbzz683h761.jpg https://i.redd.it/46uekifc3h761.jpg So final thoughts for Episode 5 and things are moving quite nicely. I'm glad that Gongsan Zan is no longer in the dark and is going to be an active part in the show. Especially since it happened quite early on as well. I get the feeling this isn’t going to be resolved so easily in one or two episodes. Rather maybe becoming resolving in the next 10 or so episodes. But either way I’m loving this. (Also Master Lu Zhi is definitely Hua Tuo) |
Eyy, yer back! Glad to see this thread continue!
I think my favorite little touch about this episode is how they make sure that Gongsan Zan doesn't say much when fighting Liu Bei, thus making it very believeable that he wouldn't know it was her. That said, as it's usually been with me when watching these, the highlight was still Liu Bei himself. It was small, but I liked how he was able to push past petty things and kept focus on the people he cared about. From ignoring the broken dishes to feed his Hero Pieces, to realizing how bad he he'd cheated Gongsan Zan without realizing, he's a really sweet guy, and definitely someone you wanna root for. |
It's alive!
I had actually started to rewatch these with you, but stopped at Episode 6 when no updates came. Glad you haven't given up on it and once you get to 6, I'll resume my rewatch. You are in a for a wild ride my friend. The show hasn't even begun to warm up yet. Also, I believe my favorite two characters are just a few episodes away, but I'll get to them when they show up. |
Super happy to see the thread back, first of all! Hopefully you can keep up a pace you feel comfortable with, but never feel bad if you have to take another extended break for any reason.
It's great to be back to watching this show right now, though. Since it's been a few months, episode 5 was a real reminder of just how rock solid this show is. DreamSword is dead-on about Liu Bei being a highlight, for one thing. His immense likability is what it makes an episode like this where basically everything goes wrong for him work super well. You usually don't write an of episode of a toku show so that the main hero loses both fights he's in, least of all so early on, and that's only the tip of the iceberg here. Not only is he failing his partners, he's pretty distinctly failing his friend, too, because Gongsun Zan isn't really wrong about him not having the same level of investment in the whole martial arts thing that she does. He's basically being called out for doing the usual superhero thing of disregarding his daily life in favor of getting wrapped up in bigger adventures, and I like that the show is even touching on that as more than just a fun joke. The plot hinges nicely around this singular central idea that Liu Bei is spreading himself too thin, and it all comes back to bite him at once in the end. As usual, the structure is great, and I'm excited to to see how that cliffhanger plays out. |
Episode 6 "Finding A True Dream"
Continuing where we last left off, Liu Bei is confused and hurt over being attacked by Gongsun Zan, the newest Legend Hero. Gongsun claims she will become the best of the Flying Dragon Fist by participating in the Dream Battle. Telling Liu Bei to drop out since he can’t properly fuel both of his Pieces and leaves him to lick his wounds. Xu Shu drops in by worried about Liu Bei and lamenting on the weakened Hero Piece’s eventually making the observation that they need to be fueled by his dream, his real dream. Something Liu Bei truly feels passionate about. And it’s clear that Liu Bei's dream isn’t to be the Master of the Flying Dragon Fist…. After more awkward tests with one another Master Lu Zhi has announced who will become his successor. And in private he tells Liu Bei that Gongsun is the new master to his relief and the reverse to Gongsun feeling that Liu Bei isn’t up for the challenge. Of course misunderstood ensues between the two and Master Lu Zhi kicks them both out. In the process after a sweet scene of Liu Bei leaving Gongsun to get some food for the both of them we see the two go back to their old abandoned orphanage. https://i.redd.it/ouy5ku3ufg861.jpg https://i.redd.it/gedmhki9gg861.jpg It’s here we see that Liu Bei was always a kind yet reckless person. And also getting to see Master Lu Zhi as a drunk master beating up some evil contractors wanting to tear the place down. Hua Tuo shows up and begins fighting Gongsun. It is here amidst this conflict Liu Bei finally remembers his real dream. It wasn’t to become the Master of the Flying Dragon Fist. But rather to use Flying Dragon Fist to make others happy! Just like Lu Zhi made it both badass and entertaining for the children. With this renewed spirit Liu Bei joins the fight and manages to beat Hua Tuo together. https://i.redd.it/8kmnjlbsgg861.jpg And in one of the biggest shocks Hua Tuo runs away and bumps into Master Lu Zhi. Master Lu Zhi welcomes both of them back after seeing the two reconciled and hearing about Liu Bei's true dream. The next day it’s revealed that there now co-successors to the Flying Dragon Fist https://i.redd.it/6ijnh5h0hg861.jpg Honestly really dig this episode and what Liu Bei is truly fighting for. The reveal of both Liu Bei and Gongsun Zan being orphans really showed the bond these two have. And it couldn’t have come and a better time. Also a hero fighting for others happiness is always a plus for me. But for me the biggest shock is the reveal that Hua Tuo isn’t Master Lu Zhi I was convinced because there were both eccentric, older males and it seemed like he was testing Liu Bei. Now I’m even more excited to figure out who he really is. |

Anyway this... this is easily my favorite episode so far, and it cemented me as a full on fan of this show. It's got a ton going for it that hits me in all the right spots. The overall lesson of balancing yourself, whether it be by showing Liu Bei spreading himself too thin or Gongsun Zan being too single-minded, it a great lesson to teach. It also goes to show that sometimes, we need some help in realizing what it is we truly want out of our lives, and that there's nothing wrong with that! It's a rather grown-up lesson to be giving kids, and huge props to the writers for going for it! And that backstory! Learning more about how Liu Bei and Gongsun Zan became friends, how they became adopted by the Master, and just what those moments meant to both of them was really sweet and heart warming. This show out and out earned its "Power of Friendship" moment, and I am a huge sucker for that. It overall made me love these two as characters even more. So yeah, if I wasn't hooked before, I most certainly am now! Really excited for the rest of this show! |
Yeah, I loved this episode. Much like the show as a whole so far, it's basically assembled exclusively from concepts that have tons of appeal to me. I mean, we've got some light martial arts spiritualism that leads to introspective character development where the main hero realizes he wants to fight to make people smile after some flashbacks which build a past that further fleshes out his motivation with clear and relatable grounding. Like, wow, what a killer little story this is. I can't get enough of how rock solid the writing in this series is.
My two favorite little things were definitely finding out Liu Bei has been incompetent since childhood (he even has like a little kid version of his outfit in the present; it's adorable!), and him not hesitating to give away Guan Yu and Zhang Fei to save their lives, which is super heroic and selfless, but in a very specific way that also demonstrates the sort of lack of spine that's often a weak point for him. Liu Bei can only make that offer because he's writing off the possibility he could save them in that moment, which, of course, turns out to be wrong by the end. |
Alright my favorite characters coming up next, the ones which manage to prove this show can out Power Ranger the Power Rangers. I'll explain what I mean later, assuming you all don't guess.

Episode 7 "Rock Spirit Duo"
The episode has Mi Zhu return and it looks like he’s going to be a recurring character which is great because I really like the dude who gives a nice dynamic for the show as comic relief.(Also sporting Bruce Lee iconic yellow spandex nice) https://i.redd.it/88inv9zhimb61.jpg Hope He Jin shows back up since it seems like there are a lot of unresolved issues with the guy. Anyways while hanging up posters for the dojo Mi Zhu says that a Radio Ad should attract a bigger crowd. Which Liu Bei absolutely is enamored by the idea. Mi Zhu then loans out the money as his advance payment for his lesson. Liu Bei drags Gongsun Zan to the Radio in order to hear their advertisement however before it could be played two rock and rollers barged and started playing. They are Li Jue(the drummer) and Gou Si(the guitarist). https://i.redd.it/17f507ovimb61.jpg When the guards try to escort them out, they transform into Legend Heroes Fan Chou and Hua Xiong! https://i.redd.it/ooolnyw4jmb61.jpg In the ensuing fight the pair show their synchronization with frequent double teaming attacks. And both Liu Bei and Gongsun Zan can’t win. During the Final Battle the pairs Legend Machines actually combine to make one mecha. https://i.redd.it/6o87rimcjmb61.jpg And this fight goes exactly like the ground fight. Liu Bei tries to send both Guan Yu and Zhang Fei to Gongsun Zan and try to combine but it doesn’t work instead it just knocks them out. https://i.redd.it/4y260vgkjmb61.jpg Commenting on how the two aren’t synced up, Li Jue then steals Zhao Yun and they run to catch a rock concert. Back at the dojo Gongsun Zan berates Liu Bei for spending all of that money on an ad without counseling her. Zhao Yun gets to play the guitar, and that is awesome. https://i.redd.it/8di1441tjmb61.jpg Eventually being able to turn Lie Jue and Gou Si against each other with his words. Back with our heroes Liu Bei apologizes, and they vow to get Zhao Yun back. The two rockers hit a violin concert, and Zhao Yun's words finally hit a boiling point disrupting their bond. Liu Bei and Zhao Yun arrive and the two battle the rockers though this time the two are doing much better. In the ensuing Final Battle Gongsun Zan sends her vehicle to Liu Bei creating Legend King Trinity Dragon Form and easily defeats the two. https://i.redd.it/a6vba770kmb61.jpg Afterwards, they escape and encounter a mysterious person… https://i.redd.it/j3btukq6kmb61.jpg And that was episode seven Liu Bei and Gongsun Zan dynamic gets further explored as their teamwork is put into question against the rockers. Zhao Yun gets to center stage in poking holes into the two dynamic shows off his cunning side. I think at least for main characters Hero Pieces have all been very fleshed out. And overall just a really enjoyable episode that core is team work. |

wow cant believe this show already got a kamen rider crossover
The two new Heroes being Bulk and Skull were great, and I got a legit laugh out that final fight. The "outline in the wall" gag is such a classic! I also got a kick out of how simplistic the Trinity Legend Machine actually is. Though I do wonder why only Liu Bei is called out for "acting on his own" when Gongsun Zan also did so during the initial fight, but whatever. Overall, this was a fun one, and had a great hook at the end for the next episode. |
