S.H. Figuarts Kamen Rider ZO Gallery
40 Attachment(s)
Henshin!
From the shadowy past of 1993 TokuNation is proud to present this gallery, S.H. Figuarts Kamen Rider ZO! The titular hero in the second of a trio of rider films released in the mid 90's. ZO (spoken as Zet-O) like Kamen Rider Shin before him, was billed as a Kamen Rider 20th Anniversary character despite the films release actually coinciding with the 22nd anniversary. Shin, ZO, and J, as movie riders were often forgotten for some time until Kamen Rider Decade's world hopping brought these characters back into the fold once more. Though these 3 films were released in the Heisei Era, these 3 riders are still grouped into the Showa Era of riders by Toei with their Heisei era officially beginning with Kuuga. Packaging As you can see from the images below, S.H. Figuarts Kamen Rider ZO doesn't feature particularly flashy packaging or box art. Which is actually pretty standard for Showa Riders. They tend to be packaged in singularly colored boxes with color shifted box art to contrast against the background. No real surprises here. Main Figure For starters the character Kamen Rider ZO featured a great suit design. It was reminiscent of the more streamlined Showa suits that came before it like Super-1, or Black. This character was designed to be like the new Ichigo of his generation and the very similar looking Kamen Rider J was meant to be like Nigo to ZO. Though this relationship was never fully reailzed in that era it's clear their design similarity is meant to imply this. ZO's figuart really does an excellent job of capturing that hybrid organic and mechanical feel that classic riders had as well. Whereas these days most riders have costumes that appear or are entirely mechanical in nature, ZO reminds us that once upon all riders were like him, cyborgs. Along the contours of the body are crisply painted gold accents. Really nicely done for the most part, I've maybe found a couple examples of paint overspray at all. The only time they look off is when posing ZO in dynamic ways. Because of the way his articulation cuts are implemented the gold lines break away from each other and you lose the consistency of the design. But that's a very minor complaint. The shoulder pads while not perfect can also hinge up about 90 degrees out of the way giving the arms some more freedom to move. The elbows frustrate me a bit as they don't seem to have a full upward range of movement but perhaps I'm just doing something wrong. The head of course looks gorgeous and ZO has some of the best red compound eyes I've ever seen. But you must watch out for the antenna as they're easily broken. The instructions even warn you to be careful around them since they're very very thin plastic. Accessories Kamen Rider ZO is one of the more bare bones releases for accessories but honestly he comes with everything he ever used in his one solo film appearance: 6 - alternate hands. Nothing crazy here, just 3 complete sets of additional hands for various poses. 1 - alternate Break Toother head. The Break Toother was featured only once in ZO's theatrical film. In his final henshin at the climax of the film, once the suit forms around him these metal slits pop out from around his mouthplate and almost function as steam vents. Though they have no practical use I'm aware of they do look cool, and they remind me of a mechanical version of Shin's mouth. Be especially careful swapping this head though as I did put a pretty bad stress mark in one of the antenna on mine. 1 - Grasshoper! The creatures through which Dr. Mochizuki contacts ZO via telepathy. This grasshopper should not be confused with the similar looking Berry who assisted Kamen Rider J. 1 - set of wings for Grasshopper. Honestly there's nothing else Kamen Rider ZO could have included. He has no weapons or particular trademark attacks to make effect parts for. I only wish he'd been released in a bike 2-pack like many Showa Rider releases have been as of late. ZO being included with his Z-Bringer would have been utter perfection. Final Thoughts Though this figure may not offer much at first glance, S.H. Figaurts Kamen Rider ZO is something I've wanted for some time. This figure captures the look of the actual suit near perfectly. Though the accessories are a bit spares, as I mentioned above there isn't really anything else ZO could have come with. It's actually one of the more complete rider Figuart releases thanks to this. If you find yourself nostalgic for the fantastic film he originates in, then I suggest picking this release up. Fans of ZO will not be disappointed. |

And some bonus shots!
You know its shame a cool suit like that has been used a handful of times. Toei should really try to make more use of ZO, J, and Shin
They did a good job with ZO. Looks great!
I love it! I still want a Figuarts Kamen Rider G, though...
AH, ZO's Figuart looks amazing.
The GekiRanger figuarts can definitely benefit from how ZO was made. |
I can't say I'm a big fan of the design. It looks pretty generic to me.
God I'm glad this got made
The announcement of this figure actually made me watch the movie for the first time. Didn’t really enjoy it, and since I don't dig the suit-design much I didn’t bother getting the figure.
It does look great, I'll give it that, but nothing for me personally. The shots with the other Showa-Riders are awesome though. |
I was sort of iffy when I ordered him, but I'm very glad I did after seeing this gallery. Great pictures as always and I think 44 is probably my favorite image I've seen in a gallery yet. Those Showa Riders look amazing together!
Funny how Den-O compared ZO with J since I always get their suits mixed up.
His figure is however undeniably a great addition to the Figuarts line. His design really lends to this toy and he seems sturdy apart from his antenna getting stress marks. Plus he comes with the Kamen Rider totem animal: the grasshopper or batta which is cute though I do worry about it ending up lost due to its small size. Hard to believe we're just one Rider away from having all 15 Showa Riders in Figuarts form! ZO's a great way to end a month long celebration of both tokusatsu and Tokunation! EDIT: I thought his name was pronounced "Z-O" like Power Rangers Zeo. You learn something everyday. |
Never seen the movie, but I LOVE the look! I'd really like to pick this one up.
I've not been a fan of this suit, but the figuart makes it look OK at least. I love the little grasshopper, though.
Looks good
Element ZO detected!... Oh wait, no. Just a bugman.
That is a good looking figure for sure, i'd love to have him.
I am so happy this got made. Quick question from a first-time poster, though: how fragile do his antenna feel compared to Black 2.0's (I'm hoping they're better).
Haven't seen the movie, but it looks like a nice figure. Love that shot with all the showa riders together! Probably won't get one, but I do have some interest in watching ZO now.
Love the fact that it comes with the grasshopper.
ZO is one of my favorite riders of the 90's and the figuart of him looks fantastic. Now we just need J and our Showa Figuart line up will be complete.
That guy looks beautiful
Havent seen the movie, but ZO seems kinda bland compared to other showa riders.
His design may not look much but ZO is totally awesome once you see the movie ;).

Man what a Rider to (technically) start 2015 off with. Simple design or not, ZO looks absolutely beautiful. I'm amazed that we're only one release away from having all 15 Showa Riders. Hopefully J's also a domestic release.
I'm generally not a huge fan of the Showa aesthetic, but I've always really like ZO's suit. Glad the figure turned out to be such a good representation of it, and I especially like the inclusion of the Break Toother head and Grasshopper.
Go ZO! Blast from the past indeed!
God I can't wait to get him. Now just please, please, please give me J and I'll be happy.

Oh man that is gorgeous. I've never seen the movie and so have no particular attachment to the character, but I'm seriously considering picking this up regardless. The simple but crisp design is realised wonderfully, and the fantastic colouring almost says premium to me (not necessarily as in Premium Bandai :lol ). If I can spot this at a price that works for me, I'll probably bite
Past is here! It really is bland, but it looks kinda cool. Super gallery admin, great respect to you.
I haven't seen ZO's movie yet, but this figure does indeed look impressive. Now we're holding out for Kamen Rider J to have the Showa set complete.
ZO is such a generic rider...but as of late, I think that is a GOOD thing. Just simple lines, nothing super crazy like losing rider switches or weapons...one I passed, but now may hunt down...
Whoa, hey, I had no idea this guy was out yet. Neat.
That grasshopper still really creeps me out lol.
Really is a fantastic-looking figure, but like most Showa kind of flew under my radar... |
been meaning to see this movie for the longest time. I originally planned to get all three of the 90's guys, but out of them I only have shin, and my space for more figuarts is severely limited. still a great figuart, plus grasshopper accessory is just awesome!
such an awesome movie
Looks good. Man, how cool would it be to get a Doras to go with him? I know Figuarts rarely does villains , but I think Doras is iconic enough to warrant a figure.
I absolutely loved the ZO movie and can't wait to get this guy; he looks so good!
ZO looks pretty good. I love his design, simple but effective.
Now, J ...& what next?? Gan Gan G maybe?? Very cool gallery!! |
I love ZO, the design jumps out at you, and the figure captures that. The grasshopper is an awesome touch. The pictures with the other Showa riders is great, and despite his murky placement he does fit well with them.
