Kamen Rider Build Episode 17- "The Outbreak Of The Rider Wars!" Discussion
The arrival of a strange new Kamen Rider has the 3 divided Zones on the brink of war. What is the path to resolution?
SuperHeroTime HAS MOVED TIMESLOTS! You can still view this episode via live stream on Saturday by heading over to Taima TV. They play other miscellaneous programs up until the live broadcast starts. Live Streams of the Superhero Time block now start at 8PM EST on Saturdays! |
Hopefully Build in 2018 retains the quality that Build in 2017 did. Namely, I hope this arc keeps up the same kind of quality that the rest of the show has had so far and that this current arc is not the start of a downward trend.

...also seeing the RAW's pop up here on Saturday is always torture since I know a subbed version wont appear until tomorrow morning. hahaha it is a great Sunday ritual though. Get up, make coffee, look for the latest subbed episode of Build. |

this ones a slightly better raw its got a bit thats missing during the fight with sparkling and the 3 smash idiots also shows the preview for next time both the phoenix robot and cell phone wolf are shown also that bit at the end i have nothing but questions and i don't know what is going on but i feel we are about to get nothing but chaos |
Although I disliked Charge's initial design, seeing it in action isn't so bad. It definitely draws your eyes unlike regular Cross.
The Hokuto Cows each have a great design IMO, hopefully they last a bit longer, like Cubi. Aoba from the Hokuto Cows heavily resembles Sean from NigaHiga~ |
Sento sure got most of Hokuto full bottles fast.
SmaphoWolf, PhoenixRobo and KumaTV in one battle. And Helicopter spotted in Grease hands. |
I thought these extra forms were going to be YouTube exclusives only. Didn't Sento already have PhoenixRobo in Heisei Generations? Were the bottles stolen and he got them back? It would explain why Grease has a Robot gel.

This episode recap back two main concept from previous series :
1) Beginning of episode using Decade's 30th episode concept 2) Insert full bottle to become smash is Kamen Rider W's Gaia Memory concept Seems like the main director is seriously merge previous Heisei series concept into this series |
Jesus, this episode was pretty grim, a full-blown war with casualties.
|
War seemed like something that was going to happen eventually in this series, but wow, they really went out of their way just to show how bad war really is in this.
Gentoku seems to now trying to be an ally for Sento and Banjo even though the latter two really don't want to work for him, pretty much a forced situation. I'm guessing given how the conflict is now that he will now be fighting alongside the other two as Kamen Rider Rogue when that rider debuts. Seems Katsuragi intentionally left the driver incomplete because he knew it would cause war. This is a really cool way of tying in why he wanted to leave Faust. Clearly the "Devil's Scientist" was actually a good guy all along who effectively got backstabbed by the people he was working alongside (namely Soichi and Gentoku), which works well as it suggests his personality never really changed when he became Sento. Really the only mysteries he have left are all related to the Box and Soichi. How did Soichi get all of these abilities? What is his ultimate goal? Is the box the real villain? Will destroying Pandora Box be the means by which all this conflict is resolved? I get the impression we probably won't find out until the back half and the series is going to focus for a bit on trying to resolve how to stop the war. If I had to guess, Sento's next big upgrade, the Hazard Trigger, or the subsequent RabbitRabbit and TankTank upgrades will be the moment this war arc ends and another arc begins. Either that or war esculates to a new level altogether and Seito is brought into the conflict making a three way war. |
C'mon Over-Time where are you with the Subs?

oh they definitely swipe their titles from elsewhere.
I'm excited about next weekends episode. It seems like the show is in full blown action mode now. Cross Z's new form and Sclash driver were pretty cool. They looked better in motion then in the pics we've seen. I still think his purple and gold form looks better though. The new guy is Grease, right? Dude one-punched a sclash while he wasn't even transformed. That's going to be an insane fight next week. |
also can anyone tell me what the full bottles those three where using are i couldn't really tell
|
I believe they were Castle, Owl, and Stag Beetle.
That being said, do any of those have Best Matches on the Build Driver? Cause I remember there were a few that never had Best Matches. If that is the case we could see more Hard Smashes with Single only bottles. |

I wonder why Owl and Castle are two colored. All three have blue legs. But since Kuwagata is solid blue, he looks ok. The other make me wonder. Lol!
|
I am pleasantly surprised at how not-terrible cross-z charge looks. Though I think its a tad bit too early for it to appear.
Please tell me that I am the only one here who would spend a half hour or more reading a PDF file on the psuedoscience behind the build driver, because I would. I love background details and everything pointlessly fluff based. Also, Tohei is missing out on three major cash grabs here: Miniseries related to the origin of night rogue and blood stalk. I want to know more about the transteam gun. The third is katsuragi's research logs, I would watch those all day. |

If Hokuto has Smash Commanders (stronger Smash) maybe Touto and Seito will be has Smash Commanders too. And, hopely Seito area will be has their own Rider too. |
i actually think we will see more riders or rider troops after the smash are deal with in Hokuto as the other side is sitting and waiting probably letting both sides wear themselves down for them to make a major push to take the box and they will probably have something like a mass production rider to back them. probably sclash driver ones. Does anyone know if there are more programmed into it? the pin combinations are the same of the sclash jellies as it is for their full bottle counter parts so if anyone has them they can start testing seeing if any trigger something

New favorite Build episode! Seeing the results of the ongoing war was chilling, and our main 3 characters all had amazing moments. I also watched Wataru’s dad’s actor and didn’t scream or anything. In fact, I’m excited to see more of him!
|
You know I wasn't too sure about this whole "Rider War" deal, but leave it to Build to completely turn my opinion around in one episode. This might actually be the strongest episode the show's had so far, and it's mostly setup. That's nuts. It's just nuts how good Build is. The background music is even starting to pull its weight now. I mean, I thought that speech from Sento was cool, but the soundtrack seemed so convinced it was the single most epic thing that's ever happened I started to believe it.

Man it's good to see Otoya again.
|
Now that I think about it.
The moment sawatari punches the Smash without batting an eye and then being : "OOOUUUCCHHHHH it hurts !!!!" felt very Otoya. I'm too lazy to check all of Kiva again, but that's easily something that could have happened in Kiva. |

Damn, when they said "war" they weren't kidding. That stuff felt way too real for a short while. Same goes to the personal conflicts in this episode, Misora's scene especially.
I like where this show is going and I like that we're getting some new baddies. Although I don't know how much of a threat the Hard Smashes are going to be now that they've been taken down already. Maybe they get some power-up and they just slightly repaint the suits. I mean the Castle-guy did call themselves the "ultimate evolutions" so they have to turn gold at some point :p Speaking of gold, Grease enters the scene. Well, technically he does so next week but still. I never watched Kiva so I can't really complain about the actor too much (what I've seen of this guy so far is pretty good though) but as a character, he seems interesting. He gives off that vibe that he might not really be into war but rather just looks for a personal challenge in a fight. I feel like when things really go south he might side with the Touto Riders. And things can't go too far south anymore because they already are in Touto! Hah! ... Because Touto is the south-eastern part of Japan? Right? ... Okay. Anyways, the Sclash Jellies have arrived. As a system it's fine, I like the sounds and the concept (the transformation sequence is cool), it reminds me of the Genesis Driver in a way which I also like a lot. But Cross-Z Charge is just... I don't know. I like the jelly gimmick and the clear plastic looks cool but I still like regular Cross-Z better. Grease, on the other hand, looks awesome, can't wait to see this guy in action. Still, the fight scenes in this episode were pretty good, you just gotta love Ryuga's fist getting stuck in the tree and Sentou kicking his butt for just using the Sclash Driver without listening to his warnings :lol |
this has promise. First the sparkling build seems to be evenly matched against the hard smash so i think without the 3 of them fighting him he is more that a match for any one the only bit where they get the upper hand is all 3 of them attacking at once so im going to say that the sparkling form is equal more than enough power for him to hold them off but the sclash driver seems to sacrifice function for power output. the build system is multipurpose and can adapt but the sclash driver seems just to be raw power and a single weapon system. so over all its powerful for now but it looks to me like your standard 3rd rider system. I think that the sclash driver will be fairly powerful for the next 2 months then its going to be less useful. Also im thinking the extra full bottles are whats powering up the hard smash. Them having them when they transform is why they are so much stronger each on had 2 so im guessing it was meant to make sure they could over power the riders.
also i finally got the dragon claws and rabbit tank sparkling today bloody delays (one was the 2nd the other was the 18 of december and they show up on the same day) |
I was wondering how they were going to keep the toys...I mean bottles going. Having one panel for each set of bottles makes sense.
I do like the sclash driver a lot. Maybe it's because it's not overly complicated. Grease is going to be the word for a while, and I'm glad. |
i do like having him back, ever since we last saw him as dark kiva in decade ive missed his antics and kinda hope this character is a spiritual successor to him.
Also the way the pandora piece we have is designed i think fairly likely we will get more. The pannel we have now has 8 holes 2 on each side that go all the way through and have a octagonal grove around them. There isn't a reason to do that unless they plan to give us the other parts so i would say that there is a strong chance either we will see a full bottle set in them or they will be released as a group but either way 5 more pare parts needed as for the sclash driver im not that fond of it its a miss with me i just don't like it as much but that will depend if they make some cool upgrades for it |
Only watched 4 episodes of Kiva so I dunno about Otoya. Kind of a cheesy type of dude.
On the other hand, I like Cross-Z Charge. Just need more blue in it. |
Otoya is over the top which is what makes him fun to watch. He is totally convinced of his status as a genius that comes around one in century and that he is gods gift to women, though his only real skills he demonstrates are he is a good enough fighter to take on the monsters with out the ixa system, fighting with only a bladed weapon, being a good person and helping others, and finally a very talented violinist. Most of his boasting is to cover up the fact he is a good person and he is doing it because he just wants to. He doesn't want to admit he just helped them without any other reason. Though he is a skirt chaser

Finally caught up with this episode last night and really enjoyed it!
Grease looks super cool and the actor did a good job making him mysterious and interesting. I feel like he's going to end up helping Sento and Banjou later on in the serious though. Not that I have a problem with that. I was a bit surprised how quickly Banjou got an upgrade as it doesn't feel like that long ago he transformed into a Kamen Rider. That said, I've never really watched a Kamen Rider series before so this could be par for the course. The Hard Smash Trio were pretty funny too so looking forward to more of them hopefully. Finally, I'm glad Sento seems to be fully onboard and starting to accept his past a bit more. Wasn't looking forward to many episodes of him moping. |
