Kamen Rider Build Episode 36- "Evolto Hunts Stars!" Discussion
The warrior Evolto has at last gained all he needs, and is preparing to reopen the Pandora's Box. Who can stop him now?!

So evolto left Ryuga rendering him a normal human that's unable to henshin anymore. I guess that's better than inseparable like Hulk and Mr.Hyde. The preview photo show him using a bottle similar to the movie leak too. I'm not too fond of Sento and Ryuga acting as Blood Stark and using his signature gesture. Shouichi does a better job at playing carefree and manipulative and I kind of wish he was an jerk the whole time because of the pandora box instead of rehashing more body snatching trope.

Wow another modification of the opening sequence!
|
- Doesn't the Nebula Gas come from the Pandora Box? Why then would the condensed gas from the bottles need to be absorbed back into the Box for it to open?
- I like that the stuffed bunny is sitting in a chair by Sento's desk. - That fight between Kazumin and Gentoku was completely unnecessary. All they needed was that little speech at the end. - Kazumin's Miitan gag was ok last time (though still needless), but it's getting stupid now. Knock it off. |
lmao Evol's reaction to the Rabbit Evolbottle is great, my headcanon is that after nearly getting blown the fuck back last week and seeing TankTank in general had him all giddy at the idea of Evol Tank and then he just pulls out Rabbit.
|
My biggest thought now is about Sento's hair color. At first I thought it was a byproduct of the fusion with Evolto. But now I'm thinking it could be from shock/trauma. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I love Misora’s scene when she begged Sento not to go and die.
Sure shows how much she loves him. |

I thought that was funny Quote:

Overall the episode was rather intense, I'm still waiting for this whole thing to blow up in Nanba's face, though it looks like Utsumi isn't buying any of it. Also from preview images, Gear Bros are back next week which is a shocker because they just kind of upped and vanished after Episode 32. There wasn't even an explanation of where they were, so I'll just stick with Kazumi hit them so hard he knocked them out of the series for several weeks. But also can I say I love how we're still getting Fullbottle attacks, it's a nice way to spice up the combat. Not to mention it helps edge out opponents. Like how Sento decided his plan was to get Evolt stuck in a spiderweb before hitting him constantly with hot air to annoy him, and it worked. |

That scene where Sento is pretending his new power up is totally safe and then the camera panning to Misora's horrified expression is pretty much Build in a nutshell. I appreciated how a bunch of things like Evolt's origin and the Fullbottles got some exposition this episode, cleared up a few questions. Evolt managed to come out on top again despite Sento's plan for mutual destruction, which makes me wonder if Evolt planned something like that all along.

Really good episode, even if I'm not a big fan of Evolt just hopping from character to character. I'm hoping this is his last trip, because it's going to get old if he just goes into Kazumi or Gentoku next.
I, for one, loved the Kazumin/Miitan scene. It was short and I thought the "you're talking out loud, creep" payoff was pretty funny. I like Build's approach to humor: it can be over-the-top, but the show doesn't get carried away with it and it's usually reserved for one or two scenes. I think this is a much more enjoyable approach to comic relief moments than the neverending barrage of slapstick we go in Drive and Ghost. |
So did anyone else notice that the form Evol was in during the Vernage flashback scene looked like his Black Hole form from the toy catalogue scans from a while ago? Nice to see that we're getting a peek of what it looks like, even if it is all shadowed and such. Wonder if he'll get to have that sword again or if it was just a spare prop they had.

I took a liking to Misora since episode 1, she has such great acting when the scene focuses on her.
The thing about Banjou getting a recolor now is a bit...off. I know him running through power ups is a plot point but man even Santo's journey doesn't feel as dogpiled on. |

Doesn’t anyone feel SentoxMisora?
|
Grease is still the best. I love his recent comedy-endeavors (complete with Sclash Driver sound effects) and he continues to kick ass simply because he gets stronger, I really dig that. We need more Riders who get stronger through training, and not just power-ups. Although Build always made a great effort to link personal growth together with form changes.
That being said, I think the current story arc feels a bit weak IMO. Yes, I dig what's going on overall, and we finally got an explanation about what Full Bottles really are, but the body-swapping and Evolt basically wasting time is rather boring. I mean, we got a huge climax last episode and it ends on "Huh, guess the thing is not ready yet", really? And taking out one protagonist after another for a short period is kinda lame. It’s just me nitpicking though, I’m still very much invested in this show. |

The bottles used are the purified form. That's why they can't bottle their own and use it to open the box. It has to be in pairs of best matches, which can only be done from the purified version. Essentially the leaked out gas needs to be filtered to be put back in to get Pandora's box to recognize it correctly. Like a shipping/storage box that had its contents smashed inside and mixed up. |

Also SawaSento works better imo |

Do many people in the fandom watch anime? Is that why they shrug when stuff like this is used with real people on screen? Quote:
Sawa-Sento? That feels too much like Peggy-Steve in the Captain America movies, where they came off more like siblings than a couple. |

ryuga x misora is something that has been building from beginning because they are always together, always hanging around, you dont see that with misora and sento. she always talks about him even when he's not around and even in the episode before this one, she was narrating about ryuga over greese's love affair with her, it just seems like it's where they are going with it. i wont be mad if they go with sento and misora but it's just very unusual if they go that direction because you dont see them together all the time unlike ryuga and misora. |

Like, downer endings are good once in a while but Build is using them way too much to the point i kind of just don't care anymore. I actually skipped through most of the monologuing in this episode because I knew none of it really mattered, Evolt was just going to win again because he always wins. Sento getting told that he needs to take care of himself better doesn't matter because he fuses with Evolt and is definitely going to be fine so there's no consequences. Grease and Rogue fighting has no weight even though it should because we already knew they were going to have to work together and that there would be no consequences. The show can't stick to a single plot line for more than 2 episodes at a time. Everything involving Evolt taking over Banjou was good, but now that entire interesting arc has been pushed aside for this much less thematically interesting one. The constant introduction of new shit to sell is also getting annoying, though not as bad as Ghost. Its getting repetitive and I don't know if I can take 15 more episodes of this formula |
I seriously don't know what to think....I mean, after watching the two latest episodes, I was feeling that a small win for the hero team wouldn't be too much....instead of that we got Sento incapacitated and body snatched by Evolto.
As for Ryuga....is the fact that he can't transform something permanent? The fight between Kazumin and Gentoku was dumb...But I guess that this way, he wanted to prove to Gentoku that he IS essential to the team. I grew to like Gentoku throughout the series and I like how he is evolving and I understand his doubts. ...When I see Misora so sad...I just want to hug her and comfort her...=/ Sento shows that he is not dense and that he knows that people care...but as he sees it...he doesn't truly have a choice but to commit "suicide" It looks like I'm complaining, but I'm not, the series is still good, the episodes are good, I just can't wait to see what's next and how Evolto will get his ass kicked. Just one thing...I just hope he won't possess the remaining "cast" Leave Gentoku alone he took too much in his face for the past few episodes. |
I really enjoyed this episode, and answered some questions I had (I was wondering if Evolt was originally from Mars or somewhere else)
