Ninninger Episode 47/LAST SHINOBI: "Unhidden Into The Future!" Discussion
The final battle has begun. Have our heroes mastered enough Nintality to pull out a victory???
As always you can view this episode via live stream on Saturday by heading over to Taima TV. They play other miscellaneous programs up until the live broadcast starts. Live Streams of the Superhero Time block start at 6:30 PM Eastern Standard Time on Saturdays. |
It was a really good final episode, it had some very epic and some very touching and heartwarming moments. Looking forward to the V-Cinema :)

My final review of the series:
PFFFFFFFFFT The End. Bring me cube animals. |
Despite all the hate ninninger gets I still think this was a nice final and I still think it did good trying to be a sentai honestly. Though in my book nothing can stoop as low go-busters for me.
|
Man, where are all the subs?
|
I don't understand why there was so much hate surrounding this season. I thought it was solid from start to finish, and it significantly increased in quality very late in the game. I thought this was a very satisfying finale to a pretty good, albeit, unique season.

I'm glad you brought up Go-Busters. I know I'm in the minority, but I really like Go-Busters. It has an engaging villain, the stakes for the heroes are very high and personal and effectively communicated, and the last 10-ish episodes put the heroes through the emotional ringer. Those episodes were dramatic and exciting and fun, and even though the show could be super uneven at times, it went out with a memorable bang. I go against the flow for liking Go-Busters, but I'm not going to accuse others of having expectations that were too high or unfairly comparing it to other series because they don't see what I see in it. I like it, and that's that. As for Ninninger, I was pretty into it for about 5/8 of the show. I would defend it left and right. It was kinda my thing. And then... the last 12 episodes happened. My thoughts on these episodes are well-documented in other Ninninger episode discussions, so I won't go over them again here, but suffice to say, I did not feel like they lived up to the expectations presented by the show itself. I felt betrayed. And doubly so because I was such a fervent defender for so long. Now, I feel like... Yeah, there were some great episodes-- especially surrounding the Chouzetsu upgrade arc, the Kinji werewolf arc, and the Gekiatsu Otomonin arc-- but they amounted to fuckall in the grand scheme of things. Like, stuff that I felt like mattered in the middle of the show was just abandoned-- plot threads, relationships, hints at world-building that should come in to play based on the show's own narrative just evaporated (or were shunted off to the upcoming V-Cinema). And unless you're subverting our expectations by giving us something unexpected, you can't just fumble all your stories and expect every viewer to follow along. I tweeted this a bit ago, and I think it sums up my feelings pretty well: "Ninninger, you're hot as hell and we've got great chemistry, but I don't think there's a future for us. Hope we can still hook up tho." |
Basically what it came down to was that Ninninger had a lot of great ideas, but in the end none of them amounted to anything.
Overall, it was a fun season with a lot of good qualities, but it just wasn't planned out very well. |

For the record, I enjoyed every episode of the series. It just didn't do much in the grand scheme of things. |
It was...alright I guess. Certainly didn't have the kind of energy I'd expect from a finale. The Gengetsu fight just played out like a normal MOTW mecha fight and Kyuemon's redemption, while not completely unexpected, certainly didn't have the kind of foreshadowing it deserved. It was just a "oh hey he's not so bad after all" moment and then he was practically good.
Ninninger was a series full of huge potential and interesting dynamics, and it wasted every single one of them. Despite some highs they were very few in a sea of lows, and has consistently felt pretty underwhelming from start to finish. |
I think Ninninger to me is the definition of a lot of style and no substance. For example I really liked all of the weapons and the idea of having a mecha sitting inside another mecha strange but different and cool. Although As I look at the thing as a whole I don't see much there besides that. Sure there where times when the story felt like it was getting their, but either do to bad planning or bad writing never quite reached its potential.
I think watching this show weekly helped but I could not see any one beige watching the series.I feel if you were to watch ever episode back to back the issue with the story and pacing would become much worse. |
This series was not that bad. I enjoyed it. I'll admit I'm going to miss it. I like how they're setting up for the Ninnin Boys vs Girls movie with the MidoNinger shuriken and having a meet up in 2 years.

There was so much interesting setup in the middle of the show, with threads (like the various competing ninja schools, the ninja governing body, Kinji's yokai-ism, the Ninningers absent parents, etc) that were just begging to be followed up on... and they just vanished. It almost feels like there was originally a different plan for this show that was aborted at the last minute. Maybe there was some Bandai-related interference due to Ninninger's historically bad toy sales? I guarantee there will be some interesting conspiracy theories about producer interference that pop up around this series in the near future... |
I haven't actually watched ninninger yet, so I don't really have an opinion of it, but from what I'm getting from this thread, it seems like it suffers from reverse Kobaysashi syndrome, because there's a lot of plot stuff in the middle but the beginning is sort of so-so, while the ending seems to ignore a lot of the already established plot.

On a different note, Over-time STILL hasn't posted a DDL for this episode. Does anybody have one they could share with me? Or at least a stream? |

Still, the main idea behind that still stands: I can't find anywhere to either stream or DDL the episode :cry |
Hoooo boy, where to begin...
For the record, since it's no surprise that I hate this series, I started out liking Ninninger fairly well. After the Lion Ha-Oh arc, though, that's when things got really stagnant really fast. Every interesting aspect just wasted. This finale was AMAZING in how rushed it felt. It single-handedly destroyed Kyuuemon's established character. The whole reason he was acting the way he was was because he resented the last ninja for supposedly using him as a stepping stone for Tsumuji? Where the hell did that come from?! Kyuuemon hated Tsumuji yeah, but that little fact was never specified at all as far as I remember. And on top of that, suddenly Kyuuemon's not so bad cause he ADMIRED HIM? He killed your grandfather, stole your dad's nintality, tempted your friend to the yokai side - TWICE - and showed little to no mercy to you people whatsoever, but now he's cool cause you're all similar? I'm sorry, that's a huge load of BS. Gengetsu was absolutely WASTED after the display of power he showed the two episodes prior. People say the final battle in Gokaiger was weak? At least in that they literally had to throw everything they had at the final boss. Here, it's another damn MotW scenario. Terrible. Everything after was typical. The one thing I will ask is where the fuck Lion Ha-Oh or that kid that fixes the Otomonin were? They're important characters, right? So why are they not used? At all? Anywhere? I'm so happy this show is finally over. Bring me Zyuohger so I can be excited about Sentai for the next year and forget about how I wasted this one. |
Four words to describe the Ninninger finale:
Rushed Generic Cop Out That is all. |

I enjoyed the heck out of Shinkenger, but I know there are Sentai fans who consider that series to be aggressively lazy/boring. I imagine that's due in part to it being the first Sentai I finished. Are you relatively new to Sentai? My toku-watching friend doesn't care at all for Shikenger, but after consideration, he told he thought maybe it's a good starter show. I may've spoiled myself since then; I confess I've enjoyed most of the Sentai I've watched since then - notably Gekiranger and Kyoryuger - even more. |
Ninninger is the first "modern" Sentai I've watched, so it does have a bit of a beginner's bias for me.
|
Well, I've been busy over the last month, so I bit the bullet and watched the last four episodes in one night. :lol And it was... meh. Just like the rest of Ninninger.
Good Points Characters other than Takaharu getting to do things Tsumuji and his awesomeness Kyuuemon kill stealing out of nowhere :lol Bad Points The complete mishandling of Kyuemon's character in the last episode Main Boss Dude doing nothing whatsoever All of the generals going down like punks, come to think of it (except Gabi Raizou-I expected him to die like that) Triple AkaNinja- sure, it was pretty cool, but other colours? Especially since you made a green one just for the Returns Special... So, will I miss this show. Not really. It was alright, but it's nowhere near my favourite. It just wasted too many ideas, and was far too underwhelming. But it |
I thought Dokoku was the worst Sentai boss villain ever, but now that crown goes to Gangetsu.
|
Finally watched the finale last night. Wow, that was underwhelming. So the ninningers basically can just say "Hey, I need to be stronger" and get stronger? Kyuuemon had The End Shuriken AND the Last Ninja powers and basically got beaten by everybody because they wanted to be able to beat him? Then the battle against Gengetsu comes and they completely rush through it. At least it further confirmed my theory that Kyuuemon was the actual main villain, while Gengetsu was just a catalyst for the action. Also, if The End Shuriken is so easy to get rid of, why didn't they do it a while ago? Why spend so much time trying to guard the thing from being used by bad guys to destroy the world when you can easily just destroy it?
That episode annoyed me. Bring on Zyuohger. |
Loved the ending that was fantastic. I am seriously going to miss this show a lot. Definitely one of my top favorite Sentai.
