This episode was gooooooood, I'm giving it a few more weeks but if this is what I can expect from now untill Arc 3 I'm really happy. |
Wow what an episode so much stuff happen.
Oma Zi-O is way op. They never show his face hmmm? I thinking Oma has to be one of the 3 Woz, Uncle, or someone we have not seen yet. Also Oma Zi-O told Sougo about the dream he had of him confirming that it really is same person. Next week more plot I can't wait. |
So Toei's official website says 16.5 will be the last episode of the spin-off eps. And the man behind the master plan who sits on the throne is...
HAIL SHINICHIRO! MASTER OF THE TOEI TOKU WORLD! Wow, he really Grimlord'd himself didn't he? :lolol For those who are still going "Huh?" THAT IS SHIRAKURA. SHINICHIRO SHIRAKURA. |
Shinichiro confirmed final boss of Zi-O.

I still don't like Sougou as a character or how the actor portrays it. I do enjoy how much plot there is in this episode. It's like there's none like lupin or they suddenly dumps everything in to show for you . i guess if the kids isnt following weekly then theyll be surprised by the dramatically formula change. Woz wasn't kidding about speeding up the script for q2. Does decade ride watch mean we'll just gain the remaining 10 watches or does the heisaber counts? I'm guessing ohma power could be stealing powers and deleting people in history like DBS along with enhanced heisei ride watch powers. I would be surprised he'll be done soon and there will be a spring movie with Showa riders featuring Dino's dragon knight sentai.

Haven't watched the ep yet, but glad to see the transition kicking in. Also hope he really hams it up with the throne. That's an excuse to have fun with it. The entire point of that. xD *Looks at date* Oh, next week is December 22nd/23rd. Nevermind. They're right on schedule/on time. My, how time flies. Didn't realize we were that close already. Felt like there was still weeks to go. |
Following the Neo-Heisei format, the stakes are highest during the Christmas season. It's evident that we are seeing the end of an arc and the beginning of a new one. Like Takeru's first revival, the death of Kiriya and the war with Hokuto, we're heading into a new direction for the series. Things will be different in 2019 and we're just witnessing the start of it.
The episode itself was very good. Shows that Shimoyama can write a good plot even outside of tributes. The plot moves forward significantly and we even get an explanation to Sougo's desire to be King all the while raising new questions. Who is the man in black who told Sougo to become Oma Zi-O? It's getting quite interesting. It's also nice to see that Geiz did have a change of heart and tried to give Sougo another option by throwing away the belt. I also like that Oma Zi-O is moving the timeline up to counter the Time Jacker's and they are caught by surprise by it as well. It seems they are relying on Tsukasa to change the future and his role will play a big role in shaping the next arc. Honestly, the way they are utilizing him is perfect. He is working as a villain but clearly has his own agenda and he pops up to fight every once in a while. If Masahiro Inoue's schedule frees up anytime soon, I really hope Toei asks him to stay on as a regular cause it's really working. I loved seeing the Decade suit back and it's oddly satisfying to see him beating Zi-O up and teaming up with Geiz. The Build vs Decade Sparkling Armour was a cool fight and it's nice that they at least let Zi-O get a hit in or two. And of course, the meat of the episode is Sougo ending up in 2068 and meeting his future self. They didn't show old Sougo's full face but it looked to me that it was Takaiwa Seiji by just seeing the mouth, which would be super fitting. Honestly, this to me seals the deal that Sougo is indeed Oma Zi-O. We don't need to see his face to understand that. They share the same memories and the wardrobe team tried to make visual association with old-Sougo's baggy pants and sandals, (which is kind of humorous to see a 68 year old dude trying to rock). I think the reason they did this was because that association is more important than trying to find an actor to portray him, since Oma Zi-O is most likely a red herring. Something probably happened to Sougo that forced him to become the evil ruler in 2068, which is why he advises his younger self to abandon the driver. Oma Zi-O might not even by a thing by the next arc if the future does indeed get rewritten. The fight wasn't super creative or anything but it was very cool to see other Rider powers in action. Since we probably won't see the early Heisei Rider Armors, it's cool to see the Ride Watches used and the effects were great. We got a kick from Kuuga, bats summoned Emperor-form style from Kiva and Dragreder from Ryuki. The only thing I'm bummed out about is this is hands-down the quickest turn-around from an upgrade kicking ass to getting totally jobbed. Pair that with the boring introduction of the Decade Armor last week and we have one of the least exciting early upgrades ever. Oh gotta add that Kashin is a cool suit and the "Kamen" written on his forehead is a nice touch. I'm bummed that 16.5 is going to be the last Hokan Keikaku but it wasn't gonna last forever. Guess that means we won't have an episode on December 29th either. But it was funny as always, with the characters talking about new show ideas if Sougo discards his Driver and even calling back to previous .5 episodes. The only bummer about this is they tease a Kamen Rider Tsukuyomi, even giving her a RideWatch and henshin pose... I guess it's not happening in the show then. Oh and Woz tells us that Heisei Gen FOREVER will have a big surprise... UGH Toei stop teasing us!!! |

I saw the mock up preview of KR Tsukiyomi, and just when she was about to transform, freaking Soguo cuts away and I was like...
ONORE ZI-O! |
So, turns out Nobuhiro Mouri wrote this episode too. Huh. The quality of the show has gone up significantly since Mouri starting writing for it. He's done the best tributes and now is amping the stakes. I wonder what Shimoyama is busy with?

I would not be fricking surprised if they end Zi-O with Tsukiyomi doing a henshin then killing Zi-O or Oma Zi-O to mirror Decade. |
I love the series now better that Decade is one of the "main cast" at the least he doesn't show up as a cameo for 2 episodes and disappears from the series as if its nothing.
And good, seeing that I like Decade quite a lot. |

I dunno if Decade stays after episode 16, but please please please do. It's really awesome having him be the equivalent of Ultraman Zero in Geed.
|
Man, this show is really ramping up, huh. If it can maintain around this level of quality the rest of the way, then we're in for a good time (though I did like the earlier episodes as well).
Also, having Tsukasa stick around as a wildcard/rival type of character is the absolute best storytelling decision this show could have done. I'm hoping he has a decently long run in this series. |
Hey everyone, guess what time it is!
https://i.imgur.com/k0CevLw.jpg Time for Sougo to stop listening to what Micchi says. I mean, if you give up that belt, who's gonna protect Zawame from Invess? Wait... I think I'm getting my Rider shows mixed up again. But then, maybe I'm not, because an episode of Kamen Rider firing on all cylinders like this can't help but remind me of the best parts of Gaim. The parts where the plot was so engrossing you almost got angry when the episode ended because you wanted to see what was next right now. The parts where all the characters had their own fleshed out goals and were all moving against one another to achieve them while dealing with interesting dilemmas, making the story that much more exciting. That's pretty much this episode. I mean, that description is probably a bit overblown, but my eyes haven't been this glued to the screen since Hazard Form's debut in Build, an episode where, funnily enough, I'm pretty sure I also did a gag in the episode thread pretending to confuse it with Gaim. The point is, this one totally ruled. I don't think I even need to say much more than that because for once I think Zi-O completely speaks for itself. |
I think I've pegged down the main part of the show that's not working for me: Geiz. I really feel like the show isn't being consistent with him. His entire goal was to come back and stop Sougo, but he's constantly waffling between "I must kill you" and "I guess I don't want to kill you anymore?" That could work if handled well, but it's been done really poorly. I'm not sure how much of that is the writing and how much is the acting, but it feels like Geiz has no consistent characterization and his attitude towards Sougo changes whenever the plot needs it to. Take him out of the equation and I think we'd have a much stronger show with just Sougo, Woz, and that girl who stands around in the background and never does anything.
I also wish they'd pulled out this prophetic dream card earlier. It gives a much better rationalization for Sougo's stupid king delusion, which felt like just a random derangement up until this point. Maybe if they hadn't tried to cram an hour of television into the first episode we could have dropped this plot point much sooner. |
With all the time traveling it might be more to it than just Oma Zi-O being the big bad guy. Sougo having that dream, could be from another timeline. Like how the person having dreams of (true) events from an other timeline. But then how many layers of timeline has been changed. Few games I played follow that trope of "What you dream may not have happened in your life, but it did at one point in another timeline". So we have...
Current Sougo is having dreams from alternative timeline. Oma Sougo had the same dream from it but it lead to him being an evil overlord. Dream Sougo of that timeline witness it happening for real. This would mean there are at least 3 different Sougo's, if the dream never happened in their timelines, but it did happen before it got changed\leading into Oma Sougo Timeline. Just like how they warned Current Sougo about messing with timeline. Someone did messed around big time with Dream Sougo Timeline. Now the curious question is who did Dream Sougo spoke to? It seems someone from the future trying to set him to a path(unless that was yet another Sougo.. the 4th one). Mentioning, how he would save the world. So if to say the big plot twist would be the true villain was someone else but instead of 50% population wipe, it was 99%-100% of the population wipe. That means the 50% population wipe would be saving the world but in the wrong way. So what made Oma Sougo decided to go that path? Perhaps he got scared that the true villain is hidden among the population, that would rise and go for 100% wipe. So the only way to encounter it, was to prevent it by going for a evil overlord. Or perhaps Oma Zi-O got brainwashed or possessed by something. Well just feel like throwing crazy theories around xD |
Really liked the Dai-Mazine designs.
Love the episode overall, and how it's setting up the timeline shakeup to come. Tsukasa is really coming across as pivotal to how the tone changes. Love the emphasis on dreams too, though I find it interesting about the face shrouded in shadows. The obvious implication is it's himself, but I think it might be a certain somebody from Decade's series instead. Overall, keeps the series very self-contained without having to use an overabundant 'mystic/supernatural' story device, and still maintains the overall theme of pushing for your dreams. The retainer design was pretty sweet too. Looking forward to seeing those and more on what they are. Overall, really like how this show is developing out and all the heavy handed foreshadowing. And yeah, the dream is very emblematic of time travel stories and the loop/paradoxical nature of time travel stories. Where dreams and Deja vu are related to how timelines diverge because of looped natures and how the loop diverges in each subsequent loop. Cyclical theories of time travel. Which fits the nature of the overall clock theme of how 1-12 are a cycle that repeats, but changes from night to day and day to night. |
