We Are The Crystal Gems: The Steven Universe Thread
http://i0.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/...131104-001.jpg
When I first saw a commercial for this show, I was SO convinced it would be just another bad comedy CN show like Uncle Grandpa and Teen Titans Go. (Seriously, CN needs to stop making those) I didn't think I could ever picture myself watching it, and from what I hear the advertising for it in general sucks. But then I heard people were praising it up the wazoo, but I still wasn't convinced. THEN one of my favorite internet critics, The Cartoon Hero, did a review on it and was praising it. That prompted me to check it out. Suffice to say, I was not only pleasantly surprised, but blown away. The animation is beautiful! The characters are three-dimensional and great! The story is great and it isn't afraid to go dark! Where has this show been all my life?! I've seen up to episodes 25 and 26, where they introduced Lapis Lazuli. Any fans here?! Because I've converted into an SU fan! |
I'm a fan of the show. Right now I'm on the part in Season 2 when Amethyst regenerates after fighting Slinker.
You're right on the ball about the show. It's not perfect (nothing is) but it's not afraid to go to some dark places, but there's an overlapping sweetness and sincerity that people of all ages can relate too. When Cartoon Network wants to do something good it knocks it out of the park. If only they would stop hyping Teen Titans GO over their better shows. |
I found out about the show a month ago and watched all episodes available in 2 days. Not too impressive since the episodes aren't very long, but even for me that's unusual, I get satisfied with shows rather quick even if they are good and need breaks before I continue.
It's a great show for multiple reasons and I love it. |
Was convinced to give the show a go and ended up loving it. It has such a brilliant way of setting up future storylines and then always making sure to actually return to them at some point, while at the same time only giving away enough to keep you hooked in the meantime. My only real issue with it is that the 15 minute episode format really killed the The Return and Jailbreak. They were set up to be something really epic and while they were still fantastic, they breezed through so fast it felt like not that much ended up actually happening.
Also, was really surprised the Uncle Grandpa crossover was as good as it was. Haven't laughed like that at an episode of something in a long time. |
Love this show so much. Honestly my favorite modern day cartoon. It even beats out Adventure Time for me- I lost interest in that show and got hooked on Steven Universe. Stronger than You is currently the only cartoon based song on my phone XD

*dusts thread off* Hello. Love SU. Don't much care for Steven himself, he's too quirky for myrastes, but I absolutely love Garnet and Amethyst. And I just wanted to say that I love the fusion dances. But am I the only one that thinks they are too sensual at times? Maybe not too sensual as I'm trying to convey, but they do seem to get rather intimate, and I know they say it is such an event.

SPOILER ALTER!!! Apparently you haven't seen the Sardonyx clip on YouTube from SDCC. |

Your loss. It's an awesome clip. It just made me love Garnet all the more. Her moves are so cool! Just like herself.
Also, just found this. Full version of the theme song!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8Bvxtbsces |

I'd rather wait until the actual entire episode is released to watch it. |
I'm still behind on this show, I just started this year. I think I'll marathon more today. I am halfway through Season 1. I love it so much.

So you won't even watch the song I posted? Found a better, closer version of the full theme song. No crowd in the way of the screen in this one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1w18Kkg16c |

Me too, I'm so pumped for next week and I’m happy that I avoided the spoilers.
|
Monday is only a day away. Well, for me anyways. It's already Sunday morning. Bring on Sardonyx and everything else!!!
|
Sardonyx hype! :D :D :D
|
I watched the Sardines clip. All I can say, without any spoilers, is... Wow. Not what I would have expected. Colors and design wise.
|
I caught up between this weekend! I can't wait for Sardonyx! I am so hyped for this show. I'm starry eyed like Steven.

I was thinking of what you said, and I looked up asexual. Not because I didn't know what it meant, but because I felt like I was leaving something out of my definition. Asexuality (or nonsexuality) is the lack of sexual attraction to anyone, or low or absent interest in sexual activity. It may be considered the lack of a sexual orientation, or one of the four variations thereof, alongside heterosexuality, homosexuality, and bisexuality. A study in 2004 placed the prevalence of asexuality at 1% in the British population. Just because there's no sexual attraction doesn't man that there has to be a lack of romance. And Just so you know, I'm not trying to argue anything you say, just putting my thoughts/opinion out there. You can be romantic and in love and it not be sexual. Just look at Garnet (Sapphire and Ruby). They are in love, but no sexual attraction. So...I just lost my train of thought on this... >__> Oh yeah!! So maybe the sexual undertones are just their ways of conveying trust? I mean, if you are going to merge yourself with someone you really have to trust them. Or have some form of ulterior motive, like Lapis Lazuli did with Jasper. |
There's a STU thread?! Excellent. Some Fusions have a sexual undertone. But you have to remember, they do know what it is. Rose 'gave birth' to Steven after all and Greg's DNA had to get inside her somehow. But it's just implied sexuality. It is still essentially a show for kids.
That being said: Jasper's a bitch. |
Why the fuck would today's episode end like that?! :cry
Anyways, we finally got another fusion: Sardonyx. To be honest, it wasn't what I imagined it would be but it was a certainly entertaining Fusion. |
It ended like that because they wanted to add a little realism to the show. Shit like that happens IRL all the time, why can't it happen with the Gems? Now literally asking a question or trying to be smartass. Just putting it out there.
|
I feel for Pearl. She wanted so bad to fuse with someone, to maybe not be so solitary for a little while. Because Pearl is a real loner in the group. Mostly because she misses Rose, mostly because of how she is. But Garnet always takes fusion so seriously. Understandably, I mean I get why.
But I understand how it ended. Like GreenPsycho said, not everything can be wrapped up in a neat little bow. And that's what I like about SU. It's not always a cheerful, happy ending. |
I agree with you Sentai. I never really grasped how lonely Pearl was until just recently. She gave her "heart, body, and soul" to Rose Quartz and Rose Quartzs cause. And in the end Rose Quartz ends up leaving her so Steven can live. She feels utterly alone because of that lose and for some reason cannot see that Rose is still there in Steven. Although she does mention a few times that she does see Rose in him, she doesn't fully accept it.

And that last part is really interesting. To the rest of Gem society, Steven is an abomination created by a war criminal and a heretic, who aligns himself with that heretic war criminal's band of rejects. That's harsh. |

I mean, that's the kind of situation that doesn't get solved with a funny one-liner. I really liked Sardonyx, it's not what I expected out of those two at all, but she's so comedically over the top, it's neato. |

Damn dude....Harsh indeed. |
That episode was an excellent follow-up. I've been where Ruby is, so many times.
And I love that Beach City is apparently a state over from mine. |
Shit! I missed today's episode! NO! :cry

It was an excellent episode! Know why? Because it dealt with Ruby and Sapphire.

Yeah, I figured as much when she only had one tear trail. |
Mom^2 is best mom. She's got all that love. It was also hilarious finally seeing what Ruby and Sapphire are capable of, though, after Ruby summoned her gauntlet, I expected Sapphire would do the same to stop her.
|
Since fusions can summon the weapons (of choice) of their fused components, since Ruby can summon a gauntlet, it's only safe to assume that Sapphire can do the same with her hand as well.

I've been with this show since day one. |

I think she didn't because at that time she was trying to remain calm outwardly, letting Ruby just vent herself out. Calling the gauntlet would've negated that. |
