The episode was nice. I like how imaginative and fun this show is, even if the continuity in editing seems weird at times. :D

Slash is confirmed to be Daishinji (I think. I need subs.), Kenzan is here and, while I think he needs to tone it down I think he's pretty entertaining.
Odd how I'm far more interested in what Rintaro is doing instead of Daishinji and Touma trying to find a way into Avalon. Seems like the former Blades was killed by Zoous(?). Rintaro looks mad af, such a departure from his polite self and I'm all for it. |

But is there any chance a female rider can be made in Saber!? PLS be Luna if possible with a new system!!!!! |
Okay, it's official. Ren/Kenzan is Ryutaros 2.0 people.*mic drop*

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Apparently the previous Blades is played by Masashi Mikami (Bouken Blue) according to twitter: (https://twitter.com/eiga_natalie/sta...87238045200385) Also, is it me or did anyone else find it kinda funny that the final WRB for Blades' best match "Tenkuu no Pegasus" was apparently just kept in a drawer in the Sword of Logos' HQ this whole time. I'm not sure why but the fact that Rintaro just angrily marches in and yanks out this extremely important item from a drawer in their table/desk with no fanfare whatsoever just feels oddly hilarious. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Also apparently the the official Kamen Rider site randomly decided to reveal the premise for Megidos' MO in this week's episode summary (https://www.kamen-rider-official.com/saber/7) Apparently after capturing a piece of our world (i.e. isolating a large area in those giant cgi books). If the MotW Megido can replicate the events of their AlterBook in the captured area, they gain the ability to permanently erode and steal it from our world. So for instance:

Last time a ranger played a rider that was the same color was Keiichi Wada aka Ryo/Ryuranger as Sakakibara/former Ryuki in the 13 Riders special. Of course, if we include Joji Shibue who was a blue rider(Ibuki) and then a blue ranger(Master Ryusoul Blue) this makes Mikami the 3rd person to do so. Tokuyama who was Yaguruma and the first TheBee I will not include cause TheBee is metallic yellow and not gold. |
Lot of things going on today that I don't get without subs this time. I'll rewatch later.
Ren sure is quite the hyperactive character. I like his wild fighting style and it matches well with Desast to give a great fight scene. Happy that Daishinji is confirmed as being a rider later on. I would have prefered a metal/iron based one but it's fine if he is Sound/Slash. |
I am just so disturbed by the Fuusouken Hayate.
Don't get me wrong, I think it looks great and stuff but I am highly annoyed at the Wonder Ride Book section. Yeah I know that the DX toy has a large hilt thing to accomodate the book but the real prop doesn't need to upscale it to keep with propertions! Also, you can clearly see a large rectangular section on the prop that the DX toy has to accomodate the Wonder Ride Book, but it's so off-putting to insert a small book thing in a large area. |
This is a real interesting show. I mean, the pacing is still absolutely insane, and I'm sure that, among other things, is still going to be turning a lot of people off; but it's stopped bothering me so much because I feel like it's at least delivering on enough extra story to match that extra speed.
This one episode is juggling a ton of plotlines, and even though I can't tell you how well they all mesh together or if they all "need" to be here, I know for sure I'm invested in every last one. Rintarou's got a new grudge against a monster that adds new dimension to his character, and that's great! Ren is now joining the fray with a lust for battle so unheroic the character he most gets along with is one of the villains, and that's great! Touma's got to team up with Daishinji research the ancient secrets of ultimate power to regain his Rider abilities, and that's great! Kento is doing the regular monster of the week thing because everyone else is too busy, and you know, that's pretty great too. Good on him for taking charge like that. ...Okay, so it's not like every second of the episode was some amazing thing, but my point is that there's a lot in this episode that works super well, and despite how quickly all these concepts are introduced and developed, they aren't coming off underbaked, in my opinion. Saber as a show is making pretty effective use of the time it has to give things juuuust enough space to breathe, if not much more. I think a perfect example of this is how they establish Daishinji's social awkwardness with him covering his face and whatnot during the conversation between Touma and Ren, which is then payed off later in the sequence where he keeps robotically looking over towards the way to the forbidden books he's trying to pretend don't exist. Which was definitely one of the funniest Rider moments in recent memory, by the way. Again, it's not using the space perfectly -- Mei is so barely here this week it'd actually be less weird if she wasn't here at all -- but... yeah, I don't even know. I just really like Saber so far! It puts a smile on my face every week and always leaves me excited for the next episode. It's not something I can quantify objectively, but that's how it is. |
Ren's pretty interesting, both in attitude (seriously whoever said Ryutaros 2.0 was spot on) and the fact that he doesn't have a standard stock/green screen henshin. Even though everyone up to this point does, and it's not like they're giving up on them either.
Curious to see if we'll see it though if we don't that only does put my worry for him a bit up there given well, it feels odd he's the one left out. I wouldn't really say he'd die, honestly I'd figure a worse fate would be him becoming Calibur because of his whole strength deal. Now I say become Calibur because I'll be real, it really is seeming like Kento's Father being Calibur is a red herring. Especially given they're keeping the voice filter on him, he doesn't acknowledge Kento or Ryo, and his first time out of suit has a sun glare in the preview. I'mma assume it's a dark mystic armor situation, and that Kento's Father died 15 years back from the original Saber's attack. But the armor was powered by that point so it latched onto the next candidate, the original Saber. And possibly, it's going to keep body snatching people. I think Ryusoulger did this too with Gaisorg? Can I just say I loved Rintaro's little bit here, while it was minor and mostly just set up for next week, his actor really, really sold it. My eyes kinda watered when he started losing his cool out of suit so I count that as a win in my book. The interesting thing I'm seeing though is Daishinji here, it's sounding to me like him being Slash is a lot more complex than we're lead to believe. There seems to be a reason as to why he's more mechanic/knowledgeable in books than fulfilling actual Logos Duties. Plus the way he talked about Avalon, I wonder if he attempted to go there at one point and lost his ability to transform. Either that or if there's going to be a gimmick involving his ability to transform if he resumes his mantle. Though from the looks of it he's been out of action for quite a bit. |
Some thoughts:
- The makeup department really has to do a better job with Touma's facial makeup. Super apparent folds around the jawline. Been like that since the start of the series. - Incredibly packed episode with a lot of development with multiple storylines. - Still want more story on the Megid and their motivations, Saber so far hasn't established them well enough. - Love that we're starting to get more backstory with Rintaro and getting added layers of motivation with him. - Kenzan is fun. Reminds me of Chiaki from Shinkenger, as a young hot-headed member of the group who desires to surpass the main lead. - Even though we're only 6 episodes in, I fear Ryo/Buster will just be a wasted tertiary character, already with a no show here. - Highly intrigued where they take Daishinji, I feel he'll have a big payoff later in the series. - Nice to see WereGarurumon make a cameo. Lol. - Want more of waifu Sophia. |
Well, that was certainly three really interesting episodes crammed into 20 minutes. This show is a mess, a complete and absolute mess. It's a really fascinating mess, though, and I'm kind of captivated by it.

Ren's finisher using a scroll instead of a book was a nice touch considering his ninja motif.

Someone pointed out that Rintaro (the animal rider) has a rivalry with Zoous (the animal executive) and Touma (the mythical beast rider) is forming a rivalry with Legiel (the mythical beast executive).
So what the bet Kento will end up in a rivalry with Storious? |

It took a bit of looking around, mostly on the wiki for names while the episodes aired, but it was easy to figure out once you just saw what monsters each one brought out.
Given how Legiel brought out Golem, the legend creature. And how Storious brought out the Ant and Grasshopper, the story creature. |

I mean you can surely find the show having problems in terms of character introductions when the show has already 10+ names to throw at you in 5 episodes, but it's not like they can make all the scenes be like : "hey what are you going to do ZUOOOS ?" "haha you will see, it will be fun, LEGIEL. Do you want to participate too STORIUS ?" Writers kinda count on your intelligence to recognize the guys by yourself at some point. |
I think it's absolutely fair that we wouldn't know those two's names if nobody has actually, you know, said their names even once. Like yeah, a scene like you described would be awkward if done often, but it still actually ought to happen at least once.
|
Would also help if their outfits had any kind of flair to help distinguish them. I'm not saying they dress the Zoo guy in nyan ears and kitty gloves, but at the moment, yeah I'm gonna be confused by three similarly dressed characters who've only been apart in the last episode.
|
Yeah, as much as I love this show, there's no getting around the fact that even with the production notes literally explaining what their names and personalities are to me, the bad guy trio right now, in my head, consists of Biceps, Guy #1, and Guy #2. And I'm never quite sure which Guy is which!
Fortunately, that's starting to turn around a bit; thanks to these last few episodes, Biceps has upgraded to the much smaller problem of not knowing how many o's there are in "Zooous". |
Zooous didn't kill Blaze. That's an interesting trait there. Why would he kill previous Blaze and not this one?

It's kind of like playing a video game. You get more satisfaction from beating a harder one than an easier one. I suspect the same principle applies with Zooous. |
Speaking of Zooous, honestly, I'm constantly replaying that ending to his and Rintaro's fight because holy shit. This dude honestly is like real high in my rankings of the villains so far, Desast has charm, but like...
Zooous just stops the fight, calls Rintaro weak, freaking walks over, squats and picks up Nagare before handing it to him. Then tells him to just go home to mommy and cry while doing a little pat to the dudes face! Then he just walks away, unfazed by Rintaro's outburst. It's just the little things, him just handing Nagare back to Rintaro and then the little pat? Those little quirks really help that scene a lot. |
And can we just appreciate the timing of that scene? It came right after Kenzan's amazing fight with Desast, Espada finishing the piranha Megid effortlessly, and Touma finding the clue to Avalon. Then cut back to Blades and we expect another victory... only to see him fall down defeated, and Zoous spare him in the most condescending way possible. IMO the contrast with the previous "Riders being awesome" montage made that feel all the more crushing.
Also it was cool how Storius didn't come in with an attack, he tricked Touma by playing on his sympathy. Nice to have some variety in the villains' methods. |

"We may be ninjas but we don't hide! Hiding doesn't stop party night!"
Kenzan is my favorite Sword Rider so far. Besides being a ninja and fast, Ren has a lot of crazy energy and a psychopathic laugh. Despite being on the heroes' side, he's more committed to proving himself as a fighter than their crusade against Megid. He speaks very casually, even calling their boss Sophia with the "chan" suffix. Sure, it was rude to call Touma a noob after meeting him but when I compare Touma to Rintarou, I think it's a fair critique. Rintarou wasn't carrying any auxiliary books in his debut since he left Tenkuu No Pegasus back at the base, testing the limits of his lesser forms to see how far he can push himself before resorting to upgrades. Touma acts just like a typical Primary Rider, always jumping to his strongest forms now that the "3 books is dangerous!" thing doesn't seem to be sticking at all. According to Daishinji, the bigger problem is that the Seiken Swords require more regular maintenance, like Touma is trying to play a shiny new game on a low-spec PC. It's interesting how the wind elemental Kobuta San Kyodai can be used for wind and fire attacks depending on which Rider uses it, which makes sense considering the wolf antagonist was wind elemental but met his death by fire, just like the witch in Hanselnuts To Gretel. Kenzan is better attuned to it though since he's able to manifest the OP brick house while Saber is stuck with the fragile straw house, referencing Ren's desire to prove himself as the superior Rider. It's cool how these books reflect the characters who use them. I've seen people speculating that Ren's going to die but in the original faerie tale, the pig with the brick house is the only character who survives. Quote:
I get why you'd exclude The Bee but Ibuki is only as blue as Hibiki (in his default form) is red so I think that should also be excluded. Quote:

Someone translated the Saberscript letters (or whatever they're called) from the book Touma was reading in this episode.

Rintaro is my favorite Rider so far and I'm rooting for him to get his sweet vengeance.
I feel like he is the glue holding the whole team together right now. |
