Atomic Roar Godzilla Gallery

TokuNation is proud to present it's first gallery for Godzilla 2014 merchandise! Today's subject is the Atomic Roar Godzilla figure.
This Bandai of America figure is actually pretty ingenious. At first glance some may think it to be too simple for their collection. But when you look at the figure closer there's an incredible attention to detail. To start, the packaging is very much what we've come to expect from BOA Godzilla toys and vinyls. An open packaging concept with twist/zip ties holding the figure in place. What's different here is this figure's electronic gimmick can be played with while still packaged so you can get a good feel for it even in a store. Just remove the plastic battery tab. Once out of the package you can get a great look at Godzilla himself. As I said there's a plethora of detail on this figure. From the scaly and almost rock lock surface of the body, to the fins on his back, and the gills sculpted into his neck line. Despite initial thoughts this is actually a pretty decent representation of Godzilla. Though he is lacking in articulation. The arms can rotate up to a certain degree which is helpful but the primary gimmick of the toy means there are no abdominal or neck joints at all. The tail is also staticly posed. In fact the only other movable joints are the hips and jaw. Which facilitate the electronic feature. In order to activate the feature you need to grab the figure by it's tail and bend it forward at the hip joints, all the way. Once you have, an internal mechanism triggers the release of the Atomic Breath. This also activates a pretty strong blue LED in his throat. The effect of this feature is actually pretty damn awesome. Even if the jaw is unnaturally opened by this gimmick it's still pretty fun. Just lean the big guy back into neutral position and you can load the breath back in for another go! And as a side not this figure scales pretty awesomely with Ultra-Acts and Pacific Rim figures. All in all this is actually a pretty fun toy. It may not have all the bells and whistles of some of the other upcoming 2014 figures like those offered by Jakks or NECA, but it gets the job done. And has a fun gimmick to boot. Oh, his poor jaw!
But the gimmick itself is pretty inspired. I like. |
I saw this at work today. I laughed SO hard. It's great.

Seriously though, even though the jaw looks ridiculous when it's open like that, it is far from a terrible figure. |

Overall, the figure looks fairly neat, but it looks like he's barfing water.
