DX ToQ Oh Gallery
40 Attachment(s)
All aboard!
**We've got so many images that this bad boy takes up 80 images across two posts! Scroll down to the second post of this thread to see the second half! DX ToQ Oh is of course from everyone's favorite new train themed sentai, Ressha Sentai ToQger. And though we're only 3 episodes into the series it's already shaping up to be a really fun rider But enough about that, onto the toys! DX ToQ Oh is composed of the 5 main Resshas (trains) from the series. Red, Blue, Yellow, Green, and Pink Resshas. Plenty of people have expressed concerns that this mecha both on screen and in toy form is plain and simplistic. Let me assure you it is neither. To start with the Ressha's themselves are more complex than one would initially think. Out of the box they are each one long train piece with no moving parts. However, in the midsection of each Ressha is a really nice square connecting joint. Some pressure tabs hold these joints in place but I can safely say they are some of the sturdiest connections you'll find on a sentai robo. When released you can flip out an alternate tab underneath the peg that can hitch the two "cars" of each Ressha together. Thus giving them a moveable joint in the middle like the linkage between real rail cars. This joint is what also allows you to remove the main engine of each Ressha, to use them with the DX ToQ Changer. That's right, each forward section of the Resshas is fully compatible with the Changer. Small sets of tabs placed at varying intervals on the bottom of each car determine how the Changer detects them. Of course the secondary cars can not be used in this manner. But more to the point the joints in the middle of each train allow you to create one very long vehicle. These trains may be small but they more than make up for it in functionality. While the size has been a point of contention with this set, reasonably so, in hand you really don't notice. This set really needs to be seen in person to appreciate it. Neither my pictures nor baltmatrix's review can really get the point across the same way actually handling it would. To combine the resshas for ToQ Oh you can 100% mimic the TV counterpart. The Resshas line up in a row, then very nice very awesome sliding locks on either side of the Blue & Green Resshas slide right into place on Red. These are very firm connectors and Bandai NEEDS to use them more. Pink & Yellow have fold out peg joints to plug into the shoulder so that's pretty straightforward. Then we need to do the naughty bit of the transformation and fold up Red Ressha. Some traditional Bandai DX clips hold this piece in place but the ammount of force needed to use them is minimal. We probably won't see the same kinds of breakage occur like last year with Kyoryuzin. And in fact these clips are strategically placed all over ToQ Oh. We will most certainly be seeing some big combos when other Ressha are introduced. The clips on the bottom of both feet, the sides of the legs, and the tops of shoulders strongly imply this. Now you just need to fold the feet up and rotate the hands. The feet by the way have a pair of locks on them so they don't rotate while the robot is standing, much like DX Gosei Great. Again very smart, and very secure, thanks Bandai! Then rotate the shoulder pads down, stand him up, fold the second half of Red Ressha down, and pop the head up! Oh and open the awesomely detailed train "doors" that conceal the head, and ToQ Oh is formed! There's also the included train crossing themed sword Fumikiriken. Nicely enough it can be stored on Red Ressha while in vehicle form. Looking at this set as a whole I am impressed, damn impressed. Bandai has cleverly engineered this thing. It's as efficient as it can be and really pulls off the look of it's show counterpart. Could it have elbows? Sure, but then you would loose the separating pivoting joint the cars use in train form. Overall this is a very impressive piece that still stacks up well to the last few years of sentai DX robos. If anything it's size is indicative of much larger combinations to come just like the DX Go-Buster Ace of 2 years ago. I HIGHLY recommend you pick this set up. The Ressha modes are really well done with absolute mountains of detail and the Robo mode is a joy to see and handle. A+ Bandai! |

Regardless of how much love it gets, I do not, and will not, like that robot mode.
However, fair is fair. The individual trains do look a lot better seeing them in multiple angles. Strangely, Red's train looks like the odd one out. It just looks so much older than the others. I'm not a train expert, and I won't doubt that his model is still commonly used, though. |
Haha aw, it's so tiny. It doesn't help that it is skinnier AND shorter.
|
TRAINS!!!
I seriously think Scope Ressha is a Snowblower. What's next, the three Auxiliary no-train Resshas? |
Remember what other mecha was that small? Victory Robo. Gee,wonder how that one turned out?
Point is,never judge a mecha based on one alone when you know they combine with others.I hold my judgement of the ToQ-Oh till I see the rest of the ressha/combinations.For now though, personally I like it. Like Baltmatrix said, yeah the proportions are off but it's simplicity is what wins me over. |
The problem I have with the mech is that it's robot mode was quite clearly compromised for the sake of the trains, to keep them looking like trains. But the trains are ALSO compromised, with gaps and holes and combiner parts just littering the train bodies. So both forms suffer, for what ultimately results in a simple and unsatisfying conversion.
I just don't get it. |

I like this one, since it reminds me a bit of Wild Force; yes, you can see how some parts can't be hidden in normal mode for giant robot, but at the same time they're not trying so hard at hiding it that it truly breaks the figure. |

That's such a weak defeatist attitude. |

Then again this also suffers Animated syndrome: that have to meet or top something AMAZING, so no matter what there'll be haters. |
I'm sure this is a hard question to answer without any other Ressha's available but how stable does it feel? Will ToQOh hold up to multiple combinations or could we be in for another year of disappointing breakage a la Kyoryujin?

No pic referencing episode 3? :p
I actually want this guy. But I dont want to get into another series to buy stuff from, and this gallery isnt helpin the temptation. :lol |

Might buy it

Definitely gonna be looking out for the Minipla this year. If there was one thing that wasn't compromised, it definitely wasn't the articulation.
|
Lovely gallery, as always, Den-O. I am completely heads over heels with this guy.
Still, the size is a bit of a point of contention as you said, because it is quite small for its asking price. Do you think it's worth the retail asking price? |
The more I see of ToQOh, the more its design grows on me. The swappable ressha really remind me of the headers from Goseiger, which were one of my favorite gimmicks in recent years. Can't wait to get mine next week :)
|
I'm still gonna hold out for the eventual BoA release 'cause I know the Zord Builder Megazords usually look real good, so US Release Zord Builder Tokkyu-Oh will look a lot cooler (And be a whole lot cheaper too...)
|
I'm glad I own him got the sake of my mechs collection, but he's definitely the weakest mecha since I don't know when. He's small, skinny and silly looking and the only saving factor is how fun the trains are combined with the ToQ Changer, so he's worth getting for that alone. I fell in love with Kuoryujin the second I got my hands on him, this guy, however is very "meh", especially for the main mecha of the season.
On the plus side, I've played with mine LOTS and there's no sign of anything that could break, so it beats Kyoryuger hands down there. |
Did you get the changer/mecha combo? For me I think he looks far better than Kyoryujin but there's no denying his price...

Id advise against it tho. You can buy them separately for a similar price and you end up with an extra Red Train. |
Hey Den-O in the description of the toy you put that ToQger is shaping up to be a fun Rider.

Tokkyuger is definitely a step in the right direction, hopefully they'll continue to avoid clips when possible in the future. |

Would love to see a side by side with Grand liner!
Got to play with this thing, it's actually pretty fun. It locks together firmly but not so firmly that it damages the toy when disassembling. |

The only thing I see being left out as a result of ZB pegs is the hitches IN the trains themselves when you seperate them. Because the hitches are attached to the big square pegs, there'd need to be a new method, but it's such a minor detail I can see it just being ignored. A lot of ToQ-Oh reviewers have. I just can't wait to see if the Den-Liner somehow makes it into the eventual PR adaptation. :lol |
I think the connectors in a PR version won't be able to fold in, so will just stick out of the train.

This is of course beside the point since something like that won't even exist until about 2016. |

If its the same peg system used back in RPM (I'm mainly thinking of High Octane's shoulder pegs)... Yeh those are crap.
|
I may or may not get it. The train designs on their own are awesome, but, the robot mode just looks so lazy and ugly. I am trying to like this robo, but, its not growing on me. But the combined mode with the sixth ranger mecha looks really good. Ill probably be picking up the DX Gokai Oh first, or the Legacy Dragonzord.
|
Well my wallet sure is relieved. Fail Racer here is definitely a no-buy.
|
I have to say I'm really genuinely surprised at the negative talk on this figure. It's an intelligently designed set. And it's small stature is just an indicator of larger combinations to come. It makes compromises for both modes but in the end each are very satisfying. Trust me when I say you really need them in hand to truly appreciate how efficient these toys are.
And I finally got my box ToQ goodies today. So I'll be working on galleries of the ToQ Buckle, Changer, & Blaster tonight! |
I outright hated this thing. Until I saw it in the show, understood more about it worked, now I absolutely love it. Yes it's a little skinny. But with what we know is coming it'll just get better.
