I think this thread is already proving what Die has said before about what a healthy spread this fandom has. If we're talking about underrated in the sense of "nobody talks about it enough", then I have to echo that the entire Showa era unfortunately tends to fade into the background for a lot of people.
Heisei, though? There just isn't a single show I can think of that doesn't have hardcore fans. I guess how much you hear about a particular one comes down to what particular circles you're hanging around in. Just on this site, you know, I'm happy to sing the praises of Wizard and Ghost any chance I get, Switchblade loves Hibiki, Matrixbeast is all about Blade, you can guess which show Kiwami likes... and that's just a handful. Not everybody loves every show, obviously, but every show is getting the love it deserves from somebody or another. |

Of the Showa era itself, I'd say Black RX is definitely an underrated series. It gets a lot of flack for not being as good as Black, but it's still a decent show. If you ignore the part where it's supposed to be a sequel series (and the bits where they use domestic abuse as comic relief), it can be really good. The villains are very Sentai, but that actually makes them more memorable. And yeah, Hibiki is a masterpiece. The first episode tends to put people off with how weird it is compared to literally every other Rider show, but once you get used to the show's style it's an incredibly enjoyable 29 episodes. |

When you think about it Black RX did something to Toku ever did before: an actual sequel with the main character is still the star of the show. Usually sequels like these you would have brand new characters as the main protagonist, case in point: Ultraman Leo and Kamen Rider Amazons. One can only wonder if we're ever going to get something like that ever again. |

Of course, that almost wasn't the case. Black RX was originally intended to be a completely separate series. It was only changed to a sequel after Black proved to be such a huge success. |
I'm not anti-Showa, I just haven't got round to it yet. I probably won't like Black RX as much as Black but it still looks a decent show. Speaking of underrated Showa shows I actually quite liked the first episode of Amazon when I saw it years ago.

Wizard. A show that nailed what it wanted to be, just might not be what a lot of the community prefers and so gets blamed for stuff that it never wanted to be. Love the show. Great monster of the week show that nails its theme.
