Ikki is highly traumatized by his encounter with the Deadman and refuses to use the Revice Driver again.

I found it much better than last weeks episode and feel establishes the show a bit now.
I was a bit letdown that George isn't doing something like Secchan on explaining how the other Genome forms are based on past riders. |

I dig the sorta twist of the typical Faustian deal this ep. As instead of Ikki being under pressure to strike a deal with Vice to save his life. It's Vice (the demon) being pressured to make a deal with Ikki (the human) to prevent his and Ikki's mutual destruction.
Interesting that we only see Daiji secure the Megalodon ViStamp this ep, when the Mantis/Berotha ViStamp was also used. Considering the caddie guy didn't summon his demon during the second fight, I guess Olteca must've taken it back off-screen. Next week's ep is interesting because we see ReVice using the Mammoth Genome, even though the Mammoth ViStamp was last in Aguilera's possession. |

Someone on Reddit pointed out that this shot in the opening might be showing all the Genomes they'll have on the show. Final form Human Genome :lol |
Very, very good episode. One of the best Rider episodes I've personally watched in a while. I love how they lampshaded Vice's position during the Rex Remix Henshin.

I'm sligthly worried how long the suits can last playing around in the water like that. We wouldn't want another Gills situation, unless of course, they fixed those suit issues long ago and I'm just being delusional.
|
The Saber suits saw a surprising amount of water. They're likely well prepared for suit preservation these days.
|
Did I just see Vice make a Hokuto no ken reference ?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIvcWqzTHw8 Best KR episode ever xD Also I like the vibes Daiji is giving for this second ep. He is a decent non rider support like Ichijo in Kuuga for example. |
The OP rules!! Honestly, a really slick OP is something I don't realise I look forward to every new show but it really is always something so exciting.
Also even more Momotaros comparisons in this one, with our human getting themselves beat up to get the monster to play nice. |
Bruh, Vice straight up stole the Gundyphone from Daiji. This is somehow even funnier to me that in should be.
I dunno, I thought Vice was gonna be annoying, which I suppose some people might see him as, but so far he's the most engaging character to me. I actually kind of like him. Wild card characters are fun. Meanwhile Ikki playing the straight man to Vice's funny man is brilliant. |

- First things first, that opening rules. The visuals are properly slick the way I like, and liveDevil is a fantastic theme song. The unique style of it makes an immediate impact, and Fujibayashi's lyrics, as usual, make it sound like she's already seen the entire show somehow, and managed to condense the entire thing into a couple minutes. This is absolutely going to be one of those cases where the song just makes more and more sense the further along we get in the story, and I love when that happens.
- This was pretty much everything I want out of a second episode of a Rider show. It digs a lot deeper into what the dynamic of the main characters is going to be like, shows some heroic resolve from the protagonist, and in this particular case, underlines how unheroic one half of Revice is. I think it's great how much they stress that Vice really does live up to that name, and at least for now, is absolutely not a monster with a hidden heart of gold. He's about nothing beyond surface pleasures, and could only be considered a neutral force at his absolute best. And Vice is very rarely at his absolute best. There's a lot of pressure put on Ikki, and the both of them become more compelling characters through all this. - It was also cute that the monster of the week plot plays off of the partnership theme a bit by being about two people having trouble working together. - I loved how the fights in this one took place in unusual locations? I can't think of any other Rider battles we've had at a driving range, and I'm glad we got a scene of Revi throwing Vice around in the tub. It's just visually interesting, you know? It's always nice whenever Rider can take a break from the usual samey locations, even though I like those too. |
I wonder why I'm still not excited for this show. Nothing with the show, tho. I even Love how Ikki decide not to henshin, but still fight nevertheless, eventough its noy his obligation. Is this what a tokuburnout feels like?

It's very brief but it's interesting how Vice briefly does Double's signature pose. I wonder if this is gonna become like a thing where Vice briefly does the Genome's Kamen Rider pose before putting his own dumb spin on it.

It seems IzuSubs is translating the text message scenes during the henshin sequences on their website, which is nice. I'm gonna copy and paste them here for convenience sake.
First henshin in the golf range: Vice: Here it comes! It’s Henshin time! Ikki: Pipe down! Vice: Hurry up already! I can’t wait any longer! Ikki: I get it already, so sit still! Vice: The entire country’s waiting on my showtime! Ikki: Yeah right! Vice: Ah~ You jealous? Ikki: That’s enough out of you! Eagle Genome henshin: Vice: Woo! Got a sudden craving for flying! I wanna feel the wind real bad! Ikki: Oi, you were trying to eat Daiji, weren’t you!? Vice: Hey, demons get hungry too, you know! Ikki: You better stop pulling this sh*t! And get ready for a real scolding! Henshin after Vice agrees to stop attacking humans: Ikki: You better follow what I say, you hear!? Vice: Lay off already! The demon of justice Vice has just been born today! Ikki: Sounds dubious to me. Vice: From now on, I fight for love, bravery, dreams, hope, the future and the people! Ikki: You’re making it worse! Vice: Demons always keep their word! Ikki: I’m gonna hold you to that! Vice: Aye’aye sir! Personally, these text messages are really neat additions and just adds some more quirkiness to the whole stamp theme of the show (again, 'stamps' are also the names of emotes that you can use in Line, a popular messaging app in Japan). |
Pretty good second episode. I do have some minor nitpicks like, what even happened to the Mantis Stamp, and so on. But other than that, solid showing for Ikki and Vice in them trying to figure out how to work through their partnership.
Also I know a King Ghidorah when I see it, that is not a three headed crane in the slightest. Though I'm a bit worried we're running through our Monsters a tad too fast. Thankfully we're getting victims of the week at least. |
First of all, I want to note that GenmCorp were a LOT faster uploading subs this time -- only 6 hours after Izu in fact, and about 14 hours after the episode itself aired! It looks like they might be a quick option this time around rather than waiting until Monday as it looked last week. Jaws hasn't uploaded theirs yet but I assume it'll be either tomorrow or Tuesday, and I might just watch theirs too? Is this who I'm becoming now? The watch-multiple-times-for-different-subs girl?
Well, it's a good thing I'm definitely loving Revice enough to watch each episode twice! There's so many little things in this episode that added up to something crazy and something wholly unique from past series. I love how the toys have increased interaction with the real world outside the drivers and weapons (The ViStamp having Vice possess a bike! The phone gun being used as a gun by Fenix!), in a way that feels both downright Early Heisei yet also beyond even that. I love how the Remixes aren't, like, Revi and Vice doing a silly pose and that's supposed to be them combining into a dinosaur; no, it is literally just them doing a silly pose that somehow makes them more powerful, and it's barely pretending to be an actual animal! I love how Revi and Vice fighting around like idiots has them accidentally activate the driver! I love how utterly striking the OP is, how different it seems to everything around it. Like... just in general, I love how much all these elements are highlighting the actual real humans here? After so many shows where everyone with the slightest plot relevance gets to be a Rider (unless they're a girl), you've got the OP focusing on the family; you've got grunts doing fighting; you've got normal people kicking and punching; you've got the ViStamps doing things not directly related to a Driver or a weapon finisher. It all feels so much more real and natural and well-integrated, which also feeds into how strong the characterisation for even minor players is so far. I'm just... I'm really feeling it! I'm loving watching Kamen Rider again!! |

The Remixes are like this perfect physical representation of the show's premise. There's Revi and Vice, and when they work in sync with each other, they become Kamen Rider Revice. It's neat. |
I'm digging this show quite a bit. Like, I doubt it will be an all-time favorite for me, but it is just a blast to watch. There are already lots of shades of things that will probably become very interesting down the line, like Ikki and Vice's seemingly unusual relationship that other people in the world don't seem to have with THEIR inner demons. Vice himself is one of those characters I feel like I should hate for being incredibly annoying, yet somehow wraps back around to being charming. I think my only major complaint is that the cinematography during the fights is super disorienting to me. Really looking forward to seeing the world fleshed out more as the show goes along.

I'm liking the show, but it's still rough around the edges. Vice is a little much, but at the very least his 4th wall breaks here actually made sense, rather than just making random commentary to the audience for no reason.
I'm still somewhat wary of Ikki. I'm just really afraid this bathhouse plot will go on for too long, since it has the chance of becoming hella repetitive. At the very least, even if he didn't sign the contract, he still dashed into battle on his bike, so we'll see how this turns out. OP was okay. Beginning was pretty good, but as it went on, it really started to just become a mess before picking back up around the end. |

But for the bathhouse, I'm pretty sure this will be present regularly throughout the year as it's kind of the primary setting of the show (like Touma's house or SoL southern base last year or Aruto's office in Zero one) and also where his family literally lives. And the pun of the bathhouse and "fight/battle" being "Sento" in Japanese is probably too good to not be used regularly. |
I actually have some faith about bathhouses sticking around as a major theme for longer then a lot of rider series manage with their side themes, mainly because... uh, if you look at the writer's twitter he seems kinda excessively enamored with them. And by interview, the idea to include them was apparently originally his, so...
|
I forgot who pointed it out when we started getting info about this show, but I love how Revi got the aesthetics down of the legacy riders while Vice represents by donning their colors.
|
Ikki and Vice join the list of extreme bicycle Kamen Riders alongside Beast, Genm and EX-Aid. I think Sougo, Ryoutarou and Shounen should take notes from them.
Meanwhile, Daiji does some pretty cool stuff on his motorcycle like a more conventional protagonist, which probably references how he was originally chosen to become Revi and his apparent future of becoming the Secondary Rider. His Fenix uniform looks more fashionable to me than Ikki's outfit as well. The Megalodon Deadman comes from a golf player. If anything is a symbol of the devil for us Rider fans, it's golf! Clearly this is all Decade's fault! |
The episode 2 "The Demons are All Just Demonic Bad Guys!?" reminds me so much of Den-O's epsiode 4 "Get Out, Demon! I’m Serious". The story had Vice's lack of moral and ethics causing outright disaster, and Ikki (who's already always annoyed with Vice's antics) cutting off Vice for good, and won't stop until Vice owes up to his mistakes and vow to do good, even when he had to fight Deadmans as human with his (and Vice's) life at risk. Like how Momo uses Ryotaro's body to commit a questionable action that hurts others (even if it's to help Ryotaro), thus Ryotaro cuts him off and fights as the useless Plat Form until Momo apologizes and make a good vow.
Though Ikki's family centered, he still has a strong principle of morality where it's more emphasized here. He wants to take care of Shiawase-Yu as his primary job and activity, but despite his disinterest of becoming a Kamen Rider and/or joining Fenix, he'd also jump into others' help as Genta informed the Deadman's location to Daiji, and makes sure Daiji evacuates the civilians, also believing that power is meant to protect people (redundant to mention family too). Yukimi may also turn into his driving factor to become a Rider as she reminds him that they can take care of Shiawase-Yu but only him can take care of the world. His refusal to become a Rider later is also something akin to blaming himself, which for me, is also a noble trait as it means they put others before themselves, even if it doesn't produce success. Revice's 2 Riders at once trait provides an unique way to punish Vice as well, Ikki turning into Revi just so that he can beat up the materialized Vice. Vice did something in this episode that is probably even worse than what Momo did at ep. 4, as at least Momo intended to help Ryotaro, though it caused misfortune upon non-Ryotaro people. Here, Vice didn't have any nobility for his actions, he just seeks conflict due to his love of fighting (a trait Momo also had), tempting Araki to release his inner demon, and his other aim is an even worse one to just eat humans while Ikki is fighting (and thus he gets materialized). Other than that, Vice is somehow significantly more intelligent than the usually mindless demons, and this is how he got to tempt Araki, by faking trying to eat someone. Luckily he's the type of morally unjust comedic character that has restrictions to keep him from going too far, not completely though as this episode showed. like his life depending on Ikki's, only materializing when he henshins as Revice, and otherwise being intangible and unseen spirit, where the extent of the trouble he can cause are annoyance and misunderstandings (as Ikki'd seem like talking to his family, especially worse when he's riled up like to Genta). Daiji's the other central focus for this episode, character-wise. It seems that here Daiji doesn't have any ill feelings towards Ikki, knowing that Ikki can become a Rider, he's focused on recruiting him as one of the Fenix member to help them fighting Deadmans, even if he won't take the center stage. He's also willingly listens to Ikki's order and later tries to keep Ikki becoming a Rider (especially with his life being at danger), practically relinquishing his role as a Rider to him. Other than their inner demons and how bad cycle of revenge is, Araki and Ibata demonstrates how dangerous the existence of superpower is, as in someone without a strong moral code, there's a big chance of them to exploit the powers to do whatever they want due to less restraint and more freedom provided by the power, and the power would even magnify the damages a cycle of revenge can do. Though luckily the actions of the Kamen Rider (Ikki particularly) made Ibata see the errors in his ways and stop Araki himself. For something not really usual in KR, the guest star of the week coming in pairs mean there's 2 MOTW at once, though for what I said above about Vice being abnormally intelligent among his kind, I wish both of the MOTWs Kamakiri and Megalodon Deadman also play up Araki and Ibata's worst traits as their personality to reaffirm about the demon within; damages from magnified negative trait equipped with destructive power. The other characters get even less of the screentime compared to those above, albeit it's probably necessary to build up Revice dynamic: Hiromi disapproves of civilian becoming a Rider and got demoted; I'm wondering if his next arc is about how failure isn’t the end of your story and learning to accept that, or him turning into a total disaster of a person and either becoming his own antithesis or reveal his true colors. George as usual goes fanboying to Revice's Eagle Genome debut, but continues to show dark ambiguous side of him seemingly reveling to Hiromi's failure and the opening with him excitedly looking at the experimented 3 legendary Riders (original, Black, Kuuga) in a tank. Yujiro seems to be the drill sergeant-type character expecting the best and having high expectations to fill, but the strictness goes too far that he'd treat low-ranked members like Hiromi as worthless, insisting others to not listen to talentless individuals. Sakura still presents herself as a no-nonsense and dry type of person to snark at silly antics, but I think this time it seems just spiteful to mock her dad's origami. Other than that the opening shows her as a big deal in karate to possess black belt and taking down the competition. Said dad Genta is apparently set up to have a bigger role, which is something good if done; would want to see the family focus not only as to fill in numbers, but making full use of each like a collective meat story about them all while still making them distinct. Aguilera is shown to prioritize Giff like how Ikki prioritizes family first, to the point of not liking others like Olteca interfering. Said Olteca was the one to take the center stage in this episode among the Deadmans, being the one to go outside and corrupting humans, but had pleasant demeanor; prefering his targets to willingly accept Vistamps. The opening had a nod on Agito with the painting-esque scene at the start, though I don't fully understand that yet, and other than some stuff I talked above in the character talk, there seems to be an implication of Ikki and Vice switching roles, which'd add up more to their dynamic. Other than that, Ikki's Vistamps is revealed to be able to... speed up a bicycle, which is a gag moment of a bicycle outspeeding a motorcycle easily, but is random too. There's a debut of Revice's another form, the W-motif Eagle Genome (does George just randomly model an animal with past Riders due to enthusiasm?) with count up feathers instead of sins as catchphrase, and to catch up with the flying Kamakiri Deadman. And Revice's seemingly ultimate ability of both combining into 1, shaped in the animal they represent in their current form. Eagle Genome has less stats than Rex one, so using Rex to fight Megalodon Deadman was the more ideal move, with Vice's rex abilities shown to breath fire and slap opponents with big tail too; I wonder if those abilities are exclusive or both Riders can have it. The finisher of the Rex one is a mere stomp on the opponent enhanced with energy though by jumping high... with the Eagle one being a spiraling kick enhanced with green cyclone like W. There's a drawback that doubles as a gag, with the combination not being actual merging, and Revi can let go of Vice, and Vice's position of the Rex one being directly behind... Revi's butt. Vice should learn what the toilet joke of his can inflict to others in Saber finale from that. And for all the science can provide in a Rider... a simple drone was the tool Fenix use to spy on them! |
I am still baffled why FENIX needs a perpetually flying airship as their base, with the internal rooms looks like they are in a concrete buildings...have we actually see FENIX personnel descent from that airship?
Also Ikki and ...Vice's (what is the demon actual name anyway?) dynamic looks interesting so far, and Ikki's family looks more...normal people than usual gallery of beautiful people we have in several rider series (I think starting from Ex-Aid to Saber). This is interesting series so far. Hopefully TOEI don't force the series to have tons of riders from the start; it kills my interest on Saber (that and GENM's inability to supply fast) |

I liked the episode, although I'm still not warming up to the suits, but I am enjoying the insane combination gimmick. Really liking Ikki and the darker take on the Den-O arrangement. |

Speaking of Fenix I kinda feel bad for Hiromi so far.
It feels he is a genuinely heroic person but who gets trashed by circumstances (fail Henshin in Ep1 and lab attack by deadmans before the show). I hope he will have more relevance in the story than someone like Utsumi in Build, becoming a late, forgettable rider |
