Ultraman Z
The apprentice of Zero makes his debut.
https://ultramangalaxy.com/the-new-u...is-ultraman-z/ https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/...20200325213055 |
Ultraman Zero's apprentice huh... I mean, I feel like we just got that with Geed but then again, this does feel like a natural progress after proving how much he's change since his debut. I'm kind of annoyed that we're getting another hot headed shonen protagonist Ultra but, then again, what kid wants to watch a toku focusing on the trials and tribulations of laid back salary man Ultra?
That being said, I'm still excited to see what the new show brings. On a side note, its really weird being able to read up on the newest Toku show straight from an official source like this. |
Nice. I think the last time we had a red-and-blue main Ultraman was.... Zero, actually. So it's nice that Z will be following him in that regard.
|
Interesting, I'm going to have to see the suit in action before making any final judgement on it. i mean it looks good in those pics but I'm the type that has to see it in action first, or at least that first promo trailer. But making him Zero's student is an interest choice but as someone said it does show how far he's come as a character since his debut.

Is it just me, or does his transformation device look like a marble launcher?
|
Its official. He is our next blue titular Ultra.

I like how he is more blue than red. And his design is kinda similar to X in a way. Maybe X will be related as well? That is one hell of a transformation device though. Maybe it also doubles as a weapon.
|
I love how his color timer is shaped like a Z.
|
I'm kinda getting mixed feelings on the design, but I imagine he'll probably get a cooler form at some point (how about a trifecta mohawk lol).
Also wait a second did you just mention a anti-kaiju robot force?....https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/...20121015042305 |
Well this explains Zero getting a fancy cape in Zero and Geed Chronicle.
Also who in their right mind's thought it was a good idea for Zero to have a full on apprentice? This is like a disaster waiting to happen... I'm excited! |
So..... are 80 and Mebius going to be pissed that Zero gets a cape before them?

How old must I be to think that Zero was a modern Ultraman only to see him now as an apprentice to another?
What the hell? |

I do wonder how much capacity will Zero be in this series. Taiga, despite being marketed as the Son of Taro, Taro himself barely appears in the show (which is fantastic as Taiga's character arc is that he wants to escape the shadow of his father). But since Zero is so popular, he'll probably appear in every episode. Maybe he'll get another new form? |
I like his design! I also thought of Nexus + Fuuma's head when I first saw him.
|
You know...... too bad he has a youthful personality, because this would be a perfect opportunity to have an Ultraman with a boisterous personality who yells "KNEEL BEFORE ZETT" at his opponents :lolol

DAAAANNNNNNGGGGG Geed is a senpai now? :lolol
What is crazy is that Alpha Edge is a total Ultraseven leagacy fest from Seven to Leo to Zero and now Z. Just from the pose alone we can probably expect some karate action. Beta Smash looks a bit like Zearth(c'mon you all thought it too) but does look like it will give us more classic Ultraman fighting scenes. Now Gamma Future is insane in that it is a combination of the first three OG Heisei Ultras. This is a total love letter to all the 90s Ultraman fans. Super stoked. AND GEED. My oh my is this a cool new look. The addition of blue and some yellow helps and his physique is more robust almost like papa Belial. |

Oh, the fusion gimmick again. Lovely. At least we had one season without it for once. It could've stayed that way as far as I'm concerned.
Especially since the suits bear little to no resemblance to their individual components. Like, who's looking at Beta Smash and immediately thinks: "Oh yes, of course, Taro, Ace and the original Ultraman!“. Instead everyone rightfully thinks its the lovechild of Ultraman Zearth and Redman. Gamma Future is way too busy to make anything out except Tiga because of the purple, and Alpha Edge just looks like a worse version of the base suit. And Geed - oh no. What's this even supposed to be? A combination of Ginga, X and Orb? How? None of this makes me think of those characters, and without the obvious Geed head poking out of it I wouldn’t even guess it's supposed to be an Ultraman. So the suits - not a fan so far, at all. Massive step-down form Taiga. That being said - if the show is only half as good as Taiga it's still going to be the best Toku show on air this year. Ultraman is on an absolute roll the past years. R/B was a bit rough, but aside from that? All of the shows were awesome. If Z can deliver on that front and give us gorgeous miniature work, effects and action scenes with lovable characters in between, then it doesn't matter much how the suits look. Or rather, I will grow to love them regardless. Plus, Geed is in this, that’s fantastic! Also, even though the gimmick is uninspired, the Ultra Z Riser is actually kind of cool. How it moves the trinkets through the scanning area. And the voice of it is quite nice as well. All in all I'm very much looking forward to this, just because its Ultraman and Ultraman rules. |

Anyway, my first impression of every single one of these new suits is actually not good. Again, it just doesn't feel like they're conveying anything, even if they look fine. And seeing what they've done with Geed, I'm not even sure how well they're hitting the "looks fine" part here. |

These suits look fun, granted it looks less like fusing and more like accessing the powers of the ultra's like with R/B except it's tripling it this time. Also because I'm catching that they specifically don't use fusing but powers. Especially given the naming system too.
Like the Ultra Powers are just there because they need Ultra Powers to sell the toys and they designed the forms around having their own identities with bits and pieces of the component Ultra's afterwards. Beta Smash is probably my favorite though, seems they realized Titas was a king and wanted to bring in more wrestling into Ultra. Also that trailer was really cool, the fact that you get to see Zett running alongside Sevengar (Surprising return!) and Windom is absolutely cool! The idea that our Team this year has full on robots to defend the city is really great. https://ultramangalaxy.com/new-ultraman-z-tv-series-revelations/ Ultraman Galaxy also has an article discussing the new stuff, interesting stuff in all honestly. The most important takeaway here is Masaki Endoh is finally fulfilling his big dream of getting to sing the opening them for an Ultra series! I'm sure the OP is gonna be a banger with him around. |

Seriously though I'm not feeling Geed. It's like he decided to wear a winter jacket and call it a day. It's also because it feels like it's just Primitive wearing a spacesuit, whereas the Fusion Rises are extremely unique.

Yeah, that picture of Geed isn't particularly flattering. It's like he's a wearing a suit but he hasn't put the head on yet. It's cool that he's in the show though!
Z's forms though? Alpha Edge is like a worse version of his regular look. It's weird. It's ok... but it's weird. Beta Smash is awesome holy crap. He's totally Redman. Gamma Future is cool but not as cool as Beta Smash. Overall, I like them a lot. Pretty excited about a Masaki Endoh opening as well. |

Personally, I like the Zett forms and I don't mind that they're fusions again. Is it a little overused now? Yeah maybe. But part of what I like about the fusion designs is the fact that they aren't very emblematic of what Ultras they are a fusion of. Like yeah sure, there are some similar design traits, like the twin sluggers on Alpha Edge, or the chest armors on Beta Smash and Gamma Future. But for the most part, you probably wouldn't know that these were fusion designs unless you were told so.
And honestly, that was kinda how I felt most fusion Ultra designs were like, well at least pre New-Gen fusion designs that is. I mean you look at designs like Legend, Mebius Infinity or Saga. Those designs aren't very emblematic that they were fusions. Now obviously, that design mentality has changed a bit in recent years for some series, most especially Orb, but I don't think it's a design mentality that all future series will follow. Also I just realized that all of Zetts fusions form names start with a greek alphabet, so I'm guessing that means the final form may have Zeta. |
