Power Rangers Beast Morphers Season 2 Part 2 Discussion Thread
Beast Morphers officially returns to US airwaves 9/19 with "The Evox Snare!"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qumNWLBdyKc |
Really excited for the team-up!
I hope we get Goldar Maximus in Lightning Collection! |
So the new episode. I ah e to say that seeing the room of memorabilia was a pleasant surprise, as was the Dr. Kameo. How do they have the stuff in that room? Who cares, it’s cool.
For an episode called the “Evox Snare”, it’s surprising how little the whole trap aspect felt in terms of relevance. Next week: Well, I’ll let this picture speak for me. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EiSd7DzX...jpg&name=large |
When Devon started talking about an extradimensional cyborg Black Ranger, I started thinking "Hey, is that a reference to-" and then he shows Dr. K and the Ranger Operators onscreen. And that was just the start of all the awesome references in this episode, followed by the vault of Legendary Ranger gear, presumably how Grid Battleforce tapped in to the Grid, and a cameo from Dr. K herself!
I'm so relieved that Devon was able to save Mayor Daniels. I was just as worried as Devon that something bad might have happened to him as long as Evox was possessing his body. Definitely an intense high stakes episode with lots of references to start the second half of the second season! |
Tune in 9/26 for "Intruder Alert!"
The Rangers receive a strange message from outer space warning of an impending threat. Now, Devon must try to trust a new ally in order to save the lives of his friends. |
Now I can say it: Gavan Type- G is "Captain Chaku of the G-5 Galaxy Police"!
I would like Hasbro to go make figures, but I'm not holding my breath! |
|
Gotta love how Ben and Betty's first idea for security is the Kevin McAllister approach. Also is Captain Chaku's first name Jou perhaps :lol?

All this time, I was kind of curious what they were going for. I'M AN IDIOT!!! |
|
Not a terrible adaptation of Gavan.
The "Little Shop of Horror's" gag with Ben and Betty was one of their best, and their response to Nate afterwards was priceless. They oversold Ryjack as a grave threat, which he didn't come across as to me. Speaking of "grave", Devon's "Now who's 6 ft. under?" line was a lot darker than I was expecting. Dol has now been canonized in the Rangerverse. Shame that we probably won't see it again! Nice name-drop on Ryjack's part when he mentioned the home world of Super Megaforce Orion! Didn't understand the logic of slowing a lot of battle footage down to a virtual crawl. Oh, and the Nick promos aren't exactly subtle when it comes to the upcoming crossover! Still, it could be worse! |

That cyborg reversal machine was pretty impressive! Imagine how easy it would have been to cure Dillon if Dr. K had one of those 11 years ago. In Call of Duty Black Ops, such a machine might be capable of non-lethally purging Corvus from infected DNIs. |

Also wondering if maybe Ryjack's gizmo was old Armada tech left behind during their attack on Andresia, which would definitely fit given what we know of Ryjack! |

New preview for tomorrow’s episode “Finders Keepers”, loosely adapted from episode 23 of Go-Busters (the one with the magnet virus and Yoko’s theme as the ED)

Crossovers like this offer hope for the franchise.
Shame Nick only has a passing interest in the survival of the franchise. In the old Fox Kids days, they would've pushed such an event a week or two in advance with a hundred daily promos! |
|
Took 8 minutes to do the opening theme/title sequence! Never timed it before, but that's got to be a record for the franchise!
Well, this happened! As most should know by now thanks to international spoilers, they recycled old footage as fan-service and to justify the villain they revive in order to use the Kyoryuger VS. Go-Busters footage. However, they over-dubbed the franchise footage and classic actors...to varying degrees of success. I honestly believe that Andros and Lord Zedd were the absolute worst! Since this episode also adapted the Pink Buster episode of Go-Busters, I guess that means Poisandra is Pink Buster since she wants to take the diamonds herself!? Despite some obvious missteps, I think it's an interesting setup to justify the use of a crossover movie, which hasn't happened since Samurai adapted Shinkenger VS. Go-Onger. It sufficiently explains how they have Goldar and Snide together despite the fact that Snide was introduced well in advance! The stage is set for the Power Rangers version of Three Dinosaur Ranger Teams to fight together for the first time! Everyone knows what's coming! |
Lightning Collection Goldar Maximus or else!
|
Before anyone one else bitches about the whole change of voice actors, I’ll point out that the reason they did so was because they don’t own the music rights to the soundtracks for those season and removing it… Well, I had to remove the music from two points in this video, and it’s pretty noticeable.

Doing so doesn't offend so much as failing to get voices that actually match. They could've done better with Zedd! Every indication though is that the Koragg/Leanbow sequence has the voices for both Koragg, Leanbow, and Gekkor, who are all credited under their original actor names! This gives off the idea that they were able to illicit the VO aid of the original actors for Koragg and Leanbow and Gekkor! |

They found a way!
Despite the fact that Kyoryuger VS. Go-Busters reduces the focus on Go-Busters, this made them essential. They found a way in adapting the movie differently than I would've expected. Shame they cut a lot of good scenes, but you can't get everything. Some of Jason's lines were a little cringe-inducing, but seeing him again still made this episode worth it. Loved the recycled cockpit footage which was a touch the movie dropped the ball with. It would've been nice if the old Zords got more focus and were named again, but again, you can't get everything. Another team-up which isn't perfect nor terrible. Still better than "Legendary Battle"! P.S.: Why was the Tyrannosaurus Power Coin in a meteor anyway!? |
I was kind of hoping Beast Morphers would contribute a little more to the crossover than Gobusters did but Devon's only role is to summon Jason and a shield for the Dino Charge Megazord while the other 4 are pretty much useless.
Honestly, if they really wanted to use this footage so badly, they should've done it 4 years ago when dinosaurs were relevant and give BM a separate crossover with SMF using Gobusters VS Gokaiger footage. If they used the dino crossover to tease Dino Fury, it might have been less superfluous but it's ultimately a weaker version of Dimensions in Danger, stopping short of Devon saying "Now that was Epic!" before entering the portal. |
Agree with Sh Ranger. This was a fairly weak offering. We got 5 episodes leading up to what was basically anticlimactic filler. There’s just none of the same love I felt from the Sentai movie (which had Nossan and Ami recognising the precursor Sentai they would be old enough to remember) or the previous anniversary teamups.
And as much as people might rag on the Neo-Saban era for bad dialogue, this episode contains what is, hands down, the worst piece of dialogue I have seen in a Power Rangers show. Namely the “I thought Serpentera was bad, but that thing has six heads” quip. |
New episode promo. After the last 5 episodes, the plot resumes with (look, I don’t know who exactly was in charge for the production of the show, so let’s just say Sabasbro and be done with it)’s take on the endgame of Go-Busters.

While it was good to see the real Roxy again, I don't like how she was made out to be the bad guy. Ravi screwed up by not explaining as soon as he had the opportunity. Instead, he gave her more reasons to be suspicious.
Ninja Steel had a similar plot where Calvin accused Hayley of having an affair, except Hayley explained the misunderstanding like a reasonable person. Why can't Ravi do that? I'd expect irrationality from the rest of his team, but not usually him. |

Holy s***, it's Venjix! — the reaction I would've had if not for spoilers.
I just checked Evox's page on the Wiki after watching the recent episode and it's humorous how they put a spoiler warning even though the page is already labeled Venjix Virus. Despite knowing what was coming though, the reveal had great execution and I think it's smart how Venjix used snake DNA to regenerate from fragmented data, since that's an ability snakes use to grow back their bodies. That's a much better explanation for the animal DNA than the weird side effects of the Rangers' mutations. That whole sequence where Nate and the other Rangers were chasing Evox through the base with blasters to purge him from the computers reminded me a lot of the last level of Black Ops 3 and Corvus. Actually, this isn't the first time the show made me think about that game either. There are a lot of similarities. I think it's smart and also cool how they acknowledged the connection between Dr. K and Nate to bring up the moral from RPM that even cataclysmic mistakes can be atoned for. I wonder if Dr. K was reminded of her close friends Gem and Gemma in Ben and Betty. Enjoyed that cameo a lot! |

Dr. K mentioned that she was mentioned in the Grid Battleforce "Ranger History Class" in "Volume 5, Chapter 176." As a history major, I took a lot of classes, but never one like that. Don't know how they decided on the numerical classification, but sign me up! Given what Dr. K has Ben and Betty do, it's somewhat interesting that she said her little baggy contains an "organic substance found only on my planet." So, the RPM Dimension contains leaves/plants which aren't found in the Prime Dimension? Fascinating. |

While I haven't seen RPM(yet) using it as a tie in for Beast Morphers has been well done.
|
|
This wasn't released on an anniversary year, and yet Beast Morphers was more of an anniversary season than Megaforce.
|
It all comes to a close!
Did Beast Morphers stick the landing? It's dicey, but acceptable. I believe there is a reason for each Legendary Weapon choice: - RPM Cloud Hatchet: It's RPM 2.0 and Evox is Venjix! - Dino Charge Dino Saber: They already did a crossover with them, so it makes sense. - Ninja Super Steel Blaster: It immediately precedes Beast Morphers and it was an available prop and it gives the show a chance to use a cockpit weapon in the field. - S.P.D. Delta Enforcer: 2020 is the 15th Anniversary of Space Patrol Delta. - Lightspeed Thermo Blaster: 2020 is the 20th Anniversary of Lightspeed Rescue. - It's clear they used Messiah Reboot for the final form of Evox, but what's with that added energy shimmer on his head? They went to the trouble of including it, but I don't see a reason why. - Despite Venjix/Evox status as one of the longest-lasting and hardest villains to defeat in the franchise, the trimmed Go-Busters footage used here felt more lackluster than RPM. Even Go-Busters had more impact! - Colonel T. Returns!!! 'Nuff said. - They clearly didn't like the idea of Blaster Morphers as they had him insert a Morph-X Key into his wrist com at the end! They've been doing it all season. - For a city that was so determined to use Grid energy in the beginning, they sure moved on fast! Is the moral supposed to be "Always listen to Mayors who name-drop Super-Villains!"? - They definitely didn't just set things up for a perfectly logical addendum later on! Nah. Scrozzle definitely won't show up again! It's not like Dino Fury won't force a crossover with the most recent entry for no reason...is there? So, what are we left with now? |
