Sentai Mecha Discussion: Sun Vulcan and Goggle V
Sun Vulcan Robo

When compared to it's predecessor DaiDenzin, I think this is a pretty marked improvement. The colour scheme is way more interesting and the overall design doesn't just look like a stack of bricks. The mouth plate though is a little bit weird. The Cosmo Vulcan is also pretty cool. I like how colour wise it doesn't resemble Sun Vulcan Robo but when combining, the entire jet basically unfolds itself to reveal all the blue hidden underneath. The Bull Vulcan however is pretty lame. It just looks like a pair of legs. Goggle Robo http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dOOwIDlN2d...gle%2BRobo.jpg https://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net...20130110201905 https://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net...20130110201938 https://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net...20130110201926 Goggle Robo is eh, very very eh. It's not bad looking but there's also nothing spectacular about it. The cone head design is something a few other mechs will use later on, however Goggle Robo's version of it is easily the worst looking out of all of them. I also dislike how most of the blue from Goggle Tank is only present on the back as it would of help break up the mostly red body of the front. Next week, Dynaman and Bioman. |
...Okay, looking at Goggle Robo, I keep expecting that head-spike to do the Getter 1 thing, is that just me?

I do like Sun Vulcan Robo. Like DaiDenjin, the combined form is far different (from the Jet at least). I agree that the manner in which Cosmo Vulcan moves its parts around helps reveal exactly how such a transformation works. Bull Vulcan are just legs with treads and aren't that impressive. In the first episode (at least), Cosmo fired shots and Bull could either latch onto or batter and throw the Monger. Sun Vulcan Robo is one of those "less-is-more" Sentai Robos cause it has an array of weapons and techniques. The "Aurora Plasma Dash" finisher has several variations: horizontal, vertical, and a combination of the two sets (of stock footage). The "Aurora" is also crucial in the final battle, but I won't say much on that here. I do think that Sun Vulcan designs were copied years later for Gingaman.
Goggle Robo is the first where "Five-Rangers-use-Three-Vehicles" to combine. The effect is...acceptable, but that's about it. Goggle Robo is the one you can't find reasons to hate or love; it's just...there. It's not a useless Mecha, but you can see its "blocky-ness". It was Zyuohger before Zyuohger! The Goggle Ceaser literally kept the Three in block-like containers which could roll-out on their own! It's finisher is redeemable for its preparation visuals. What I haven't seen is the final battle where they use a different finisher against the boss. |
Sun Vulcan Robo has the same color scheme as Daidenjin but the brightness seems toned down more and it gives it more weight. Having a dark color as a base and then give small accents here and there with red and yellow is an excellent choice.
It is simplistic yet effective. Bull Vulcan feels like two skyscrapers on wheels and with guns, but Cosmo Vulcan is fine. As for Goggle Robo it is interesting that only Goggle Red, Blue, and Yellow are involved and Black and Pink just chill. |
Cosmo Vulcan looks very cool. I love futuristic design from this jet.
But Bull Vulcan design is looks too strange for me. This mecha actually is bulldozer with two cranes but looks more closer to simple robot than bulldozer in my opinion. But the Sun Vulcan Robo is awesome. Quite slim for combining mecha. Remind me to Flash King and Geki Touja. Goggle Robo is really cool too. |
