Tokusatsu Gagaga Discussion Thread
Big Nova subs has released the subs for the first episode of Tokusatsu Gagaga
https://twitter.com/bignovasubs/stat...59216253620225 Even though the show itself is not really a Tokusatsu series I thought someone might want to discuss the episodes on this forum. |
Wish I could stream this. Hopefully Jatoku will get it.
|
Tokusatsu GAGAGA is meta and relatable in a more depressing and serious outlook of rejected otaku with a kind of loser dead end Job life. It's no akibaranger and instead feature a girl makes it less creepy or offensive I guess. It's better than the after 5 one with AU kuuga and Drake. It's based of a manga that in turn inspired a lot of similar anime otaku stories.
|
I'm all in for this. This not only applies to toku but geek culture in general =)
|
"I hope your favourite show gets pre-empted by Golf for 5 years!" Oh shit!
God I can relate to too much of this show, but I liked this a lot! I hope the rest of the show (how many episodes is it?) stays as charming and funny as this episode. The Jushowan and Emerjason costumes are surprisingly high quality. They look cool too. |
Any streaming sites picked it up yet?

If the former, I don't think so. If it's the later, well you might want to check kissasian.sh |
Having watched the the first episode, I have to agree with how relatable the lead character is. Even if it is done for a slightly more comedic effect you do feel her pain. Although I do like how the "MoTW" is related to her inner struggle. Because if Mom is going to be the big stress causer for her next week I can't wait to see what her monster looks like.

I really liked the first episode. She's cute, I related to a bit of it. I like the, 'turn you head and have a tortured inner dialogue' device that reminded me of Akiba-Red who would do sort of the same thing. Karaoke-Monster was funny, "I can keep this up for 5 weeks!" .. and he explodes in toku fashion. Can't help but think a pretty toku-fan like she is would be a dream girl for a lot of guys. |
I wasn't particularly interested in this show, but I saw TV-Nihon was subbing it too and went ahead and took a chance on it. If the whole show is going to be as good as the first episode, I sincerely hope other people are giving it a chance too.
I expected a mildly amusing, jokey sendup of tokusatsu, but pretty much all the gags were genuinely hilarious, and there's a real heart to it I didn't expect at all. It's relatable on a level that goes beyond just toku. I think pretty much anyone who has a hobby or interest they're passionate about that isn't particularly mainstream could watch this and get something out of it. |

Glad you like. Need to still check on how the first episode was. But really glad to hear positive things about it. |

It's hard when you're into something that's obscure to most people. If I had a dollar for every time someone asked me about my 'Ant-Man' t-shirt … (it's Kamen Rider) … |
|
I really like the show. She is so relatable although I guess I'm less shy showing my love for Toku than her. I don't really mind what people think when they find out I watch Tokusatsu pretty much daily.

"Sweet escapism!" hahahahaha, I'm really enjoying the show. She's too cute. |
Spandex fetish is strong, but seriously the episodes are full length despite it being more of a sitcom. Having a hopeful and desperate cute girl as the lead does sell and cater to the toku fanbase demographic better. I don't know about general mainstream audience.

This show is delightful.
|
I've really been enjoying this show; it's been fun to watch (as well as dangerously relatable at times!)
They've managed to make the characters so likeable, too. I was so anxious during the second episode, when Nakamura and Yoshida met at the show and when they were having lunch (I really wanted them to end up as friends!); it was almost difficult to watch! Can't wait to watch the rest of it :) |

It's hard being a fan of something that seemingly no one you know IRL knows about,.. and the few people that have any idea what it is … think it's all Power Rangers. Everything is Power Rangers to people that don't know about Toku. |
Episode 3 subs are already out.
So that's what a live action anime style eye twitch looks like... :D :D :D |
Just got done watching episode 2, and my already extremely high opinion of this show is only getting higher. There's everything to love about it and nothing to hate. The actual tokusatsu-related content is extremely authentic, and the writing effortlessly combines charming, briskly paced comedic antics with social drama that's WAY more in-depth than it has any right to be. Stuff like Nakamura and Yoshida carrying on totally different monologues in their heads and the twist at the end of the episode are just fantastic.
I know this is edging into hyperbole, and I kind of hate saying things like this, but everyone on this forum should be watching this show if they aren't already. I just can't imagine anyone here not enjoying it. At any rate, I know I am. |
Still no word on any sites streaming this yet?
|
Man, there's so many good things about this show that listing them all would just be me describing the whole episode which would be silly! But episode 3...
That handshake scene. That tunnel scene. That Emerjason scene. Emerjason is so cool. That twist (that i sort of saw coming) I love the Hell out of this show. |

it's relatable in a lot of ways. When she said how she learned to do good or that she got good examples from Toku shows I thought of Ultraman Geed and his, "sitting around doing nothing wont get me anywhere" motto,.. which I actually have told myself at times when overwhelmed with work. So I related. It really is a good show. It manages to be meta and a toku show at the same time. Which is probably not easy to pull off, but they seem to be doing it. |

You know, it might be a good thing this show isn't going to run very long, if only because I won't have to keep repeating the same praise dozens of times over. Episode 3 stood out for just how closely it paralleled the Sentai formula it was homaging though. Definitely the best use of the Jushowan clips yet.

7 episodes mean 14 half hour long, but it's odd this isn't a sitcom like duration. Episode 3 resonate and feel more relatable. Finding support and able to talk about your hobbies without being fear of ridicule by condescending voice is good.

I've been antsy for the new episode all week.
Every time I check the sites and still see episode 3 I'm all …. https://i.imgur.com/l4ZL5Du.png |
When Yoshida first showed up I thought she was just this sad, adorable geek like Nakamura.
Now that she's comfortable around Nakamura her true power level's been revealed. She's so delightfully devious. |
|
Welp, I've finally hit the point where I have nothing new to say about this show, but uh, yeah, episode 4. It was good. Watch this series. Etc.

Was also of fan of the Mr. Yakuza plot twist >_> https://i.imgtc.com/4Em4JG7.gif |
I always feel drawn towards the scary ones.
...clearly I have issues. Hahahaha |
|
Episode 5 already. And there's only going to be 7 episodes right?
My heart's not ready for this to be over. https://i.imgur.com/qhHCf7m.jpg I'm not sure I can! |
I honestly can't tell if I like Yoshida or Katashiro more. Also, this show is too relatable.

I guess the attraction of this series is the central focus revolve around female otaku instead of male salaryman, which might become a serious stereotypical loser cliche/trope in the work place. Also, the main lead starting to looking like Mai from Gaim.
|
Credits to research and props to the props. I kind of want more action tie in footage. Turn out one of the girls is from amazon. This show can get fish clenching awkward and depressing if its a about a few dudes. Still have to appreciate the authentic geeky acting and respect for otaku fan base.
