PLEASE VOTE - Your MOST Favorite Kamen Rider Neo Heisei Phase 2 Era Gimmick
Hey everyone! Without giving away too much detail or information, we have a very important poll we'd like everyone to take part in! We want to know, in the Neo Heisei Era, what's your favorite gimmick for Kamen Rider? We're including Decade (even if he's not Phase 2) through Zi-O (as that's when the "gimmicks" really started), and you have to pick your *MOST* favorite! A separate poll will allow multiple choice.
Again - please share this poll around. Can't go in to details, but we need some data from you all and rather quickly :) Thanks! |
I have a soft spot for the Lock Seeds. Not only because Gaim is a great show, but because they managed to incorporate the whole toy thing in a way that worked really well for that setting.
|
I picked lock seeds. I like it when the collectible gimmicks have some play value/moving parts without using the driver. Toy-wise, lock seeds also have the added bonus of the unique sound clips being in the lock seeds themselves instead of the driver, allowing for new ones to be made later on.

Fullbottles the best!

I'm torn between OOO Medals and Wizard Rings. Both are neat little pieces of technology that don't have gaudy or overly bulky belts. Medals are more fun to collect but Rings have the added gimmick of lighting up without needing batteries. The OOO Driver has fun motions while activating while the Wizard Driver has a simple elegance to it, just a lot of posing and not a lot extra hanging off of the belt.
|
I love the Gashats. The Video Game inspired logos, the wide ranging aesthetics of the designs on the front, even the fun catchy sounds they make.
|
Oooh, tough question for me. I like the Memories, Lockseeds, and Gashats pretty evenly, but I think it’d probably be the Gashats the most for me. There’s just something fun about the lighting panel and the little handle on the side. Gaim was my favorite show until Ex-Aid dethroned it, and I like the simplicity of the Gaia Memories and how they work. From an out of universe perspective, I like how self-contained the gimmick is, it subtly reinforces that they’re the “real” power in the transformation system. I’ve never been as big of a fan of the scanner type drivers like Wizard and Drive, partially because it limits potential expansion in the future.
|
Aren’t these the collectibles? IMO, I’d say that the ‘gimmick’ was the actual arms change, tire koukan, etc?
|
I do prefer referring to them as collectibles, but I guess they're interchangeable with 'gimmick' anyway. Also they're called Eyecons and Fullbottles!
From a merchandise and actual product standpoint, my favourite is definitely the Gashats. All their functions are right there and they have a very unique shape. Even the bigger ones feel good in the hand and are fun to press buttons on. If I had to think about what I most liked seeing used in the show, well... I think Decade's swiping and inserting of his cards is the most stylish. But also OOO's Medals are not only simple and cool, but they also had a particularly strong presence as part of the story of that show too. |
It was a tough call between Lockseeds and Gashats for me. Ultimately I think with Lockseeds just because they're easier to display and have a bit more functionality and play value.
|
In the show, OOO's medals felt like the most natural gimmick to me due to the irregular nature he collected medals in. Aside from Sagohzo's entrance and to an extent the Putotyra medals, they felt a lot more realistic the way they were obtained and introduced rather than a vehicle through which they advertised toys.
But if you were to ask me from an aesthetic and toy standpoint... I just adore the Decadriver. It's so sleek, so simple, the cards are really nice themselves; and it does one of my favourite things in a gimmick -- the belt has a little 'window' which focuses in on one part of the gimmick item. It's something a few belts like the W ones and the Ghost driver do too, but Decade and Mach's drivers are by far my favourite implementation of it. Though, uh, I'm not... entirely sure why Decade's is here? I think most people would define Heisei Phase 2 as starting with W rather than him. Special shoutout to the Gashats though for the exact same reasons everyone's said here. They look really nice to hold; I've gotta get my hands on one of them at some point. I should see if anyone's selling a cheap Jungle OOO... |
I thought a gimmick consisted of doing something. For example, Decade turning into other Riders, or Ghost's parka swaps. Diend's summoning.
|
Honestly, I consider collectibles one of my least liked things about Kamen Riders. There's to much of it and it's helped contribute to the sound diarrhea coming from the belts these days. This element of Kamen Rider has killed my enjoyment of more than one show.
That said, I do enjoy the Lockseeds, mostly because it's in the happy middle where they have plenty of sounds, but they're not to overbearing or to long. Also the popping of the lock is a satisfying fidget toy even without sounds. So yeah, I generally prefer not to have them, but if I must, Lockseeds are fun. |
Tossup between the Astro Switches from Fourze and the Lockseeds from Gaim. Opted for Switches, mostly because I have a bit more nostalgia for them, but it's more or less a coin flip.
Edit: Dang, totally missed Ryuki/advent cards on the poll, kinda leaning towards them >_> |
I'll just go with the Ride Watches. They are just a joy to hold, just the right size and weight and I like the idea of Rider Powers given a physical form.
|
I love the Astro Switches from Fourze. They just look really fun to mess around with.

From a little writeup I did on Gaim's toy-line:

Had to go with the lockseeds. Gaim was my first rider series and hooked me onto the franchise

Hard pressed, since Rings were kind of the easiest to go with. Not a lot of fuss, and most of the presentation was in being able to just pull a new ring out. I did go with Lock Seeds though because they had the best sounds built in, and the most interaction.
|
Lock Seeds. Every gimmick since has been a lackluster attempt at recreating that perfection, save for Build which was just W but slanted.
Lock Seeds perfectly blended the interactivity of the belt with the interactivity of the driver in ways we haven't seen since. |
A quick update for everyone.
We wanted to say thanks for all the engagement on these polls - whether you voted, shared the link to the votes, or spread the word about Kamen Rider the last couple of weeks. We cannot go in to specifics or really even hint at what was so urgent about these polls - only that they were important. To wet the palette somewhat - the intent behind these polls was achieved. Thank you all for partaking in this! |
