I never knew that Mio Kudou (Sayo Ooharu/KiramaiPink) is actually playing drums aside from acting and singing! She did play that musical instrument a few years ago. Well, let me say about this episode: I knew that there are several Speaker Monsters in Super Sentai before such as Voice Dimension (JetMan), Bat Nezire (MegaRanger), Sutoijii (GingaMan), Karaoke Org (GaoRanger) and other audio monsters who made the heroes and heroines of the Super Sentai Series blowing their brains and deafening their ears or turning themselves into evil by either following the orders or having their voices turned demonic (in this case, Sayo and I forgot who are the others). Of all the Super Sentai Series episodes focused on music and sonic waves, this is definitely the noisiest episode I've ever heard! About the musical band, this isn't new either. Unlike that Remi Hoshikawa/FiveYellow whose musical band members were her elementary students (they're growing up today!), i remember that there were musical bands before this. Like, for instance, in MegaRanger (Chisato Jougasaki/MegaYellow), DekaRanger (Jasmine and Umeko playing electric guitars), KyuRanger and many more. No matter what the music genres are changing during the 44/45 years run of the Super Sentai Series, the tones would be either similar or different from the other music genres we used to hear as children up until we grew older. Turn up the volume, everybody! Let's rock n' roll/dance!!!

I loved Juuru not knowing what a Jukebox is. Damn youngin :lol

Yeah. A jukebox was a musical device used to press the button to select the records/LPs you wanna play. Now, you have to go to the music websites to play a selected song on either smartphone, tablet, PC or laptop computer. And about a boy who's afraid of surgery, I've seen some of those similar scenes in Super Sentai before. The courage of a medical patient, particularly during the COVID-19 Pandemic, is needed to resist the demands of the enemy.

The highlight for me was Garza rocking out, and getting carried away with it.

Okay, so, the last time Tete Inoue wrote an episode of Kiramager, I outright gave up on trying to talk about it, and I'm once again finding myself struggling a bit to say anything beyond that I enjoyed this episode.
It's definitely a lot less crazy than episode 16 was, for sure. This one is a pretty classic "helping out a sad kid" story, and it hits all the beats, no pun intended. Like a lot of these kinds of plots, I think it sort of assumes you'll empathize with the child without putting in too much effort, which is maybe an issue, but at least here, it's little more than a slight bump in an otherwise perfectly satisfying story. I didn't exactly care about the kid, but I certainly cared that Sayo wanted to help the kid, and that part was as fun as this show always is. I'm sort of in love with the idea of just randomly dropping the idea into an episode that Sayo is in a band with a bunch of her doctor friends where she kills it on the drums. It's weirdly not that jarring or unbelievable, and even if it never comes up again outside of a joking reference at best, it makes the world feel that little bit richer the same way the characters having real-world occupations does. It's cool to think Sayo has a hobby outside of her two jobs, and it's neat to see her applying that to cheer up someone who needs it. Watching the other Kiramagers pitch in led to some highly amusing scenes, too. Sayo trying to whip everyone into shape and smooth-talking Takamichi out of the spotlight, that's all great. Actually, once again, I really like how Takamichi is being used lately. After that huge string of episodes where he was constantly the focus, it's swung back around so that he's a step or two away from the rest of the team a lot of the time, maintaining a distance from the main group that's pretty atypical for sixth Rangers in... what? The past decade? Even longer? Obviously there's a ton of merit in those characters who fully work themselves into the existing group dynamic, but it's nice to see a different approach every now and then. Beyond that... uh... yeah, I kinda got nothing. Garza's surprising passion for rock was great? Ah well. I managed way more out of this episode than I expected, at least. I'll call that a win! https://i.imgur.com/YdhTug9.png |
Fun fact: The Doctor bandmates are Yohei Onishi, who does the OP and Takashi Deguchi, who does the ED. The latter is making his first onscreen appearance, the former is making his second following Ninninger vs ToQger.

Nice for them to give a focus to Sayo.
Would've been a little more interesting if the Mashin had gotten in on this a tad, but that might have been too much. Weirdly disturbing to have the Jamen absorb the kid, and especially odd if that capability is inherent within all Jamen and the ones we've seen simply don't use that skill. If they can absorb anyone to generate darkness, then that's something you would think they would use more often. They love to have Takamichi defeat the Jamen, don't they? Using Zabuyn like that is unique and continues to make Zabuyn look better. Carantula is really doing a deep-dive into Earth culture if he knows what a jukebox is and Juuru doesn't! :lol |
